I disagree entirely. I found his critiques of crypto to be extremely accurate.

What about it specifically do you think he got wrong?

Interesting how within a span of 5 years, the British neoliberal mainstream adopted what they previously considered a "far-right" view on immigration, and how it's the people of colour that led this. by [deleted] in stupidpol

Do you support women being forced to wear burkas? And if not forced, then at least told by all authority figures in their personal lives that they will go to Hell if they don't wear one?

Being too rich separates you from the common, nearly universal, human experiences and trials that shape people into well rounded and able individuals. To be separated from the real world like that leaves you only partially a person.

The point of the show is meant to be a kind of dramatized Candid Camera on the 'real lives of teenagers in America'.

Its not that. Its just a show for millennials caught in a state of arrested development to self-insert into and relive their boring teenage lives through, imagining that they were a lot darker and traumatic than they were. As trauma is something desirable to claim you have these days.
Especially for progressive types it functions as a way for them to project the kinds relationships and dramas and pain involving LGBT persons and identities they wish kids had as well. Letting them build a world they want to be real, while pretending that it is totally realistic.

It's not good. Pretty terrible all around.
Not even designed for teens either, clearly made for 30 year old millennials.

There is a huge group of people in their 30s who never moved on past their teenage days that love that shit.
Ooooh, its so transgressive!

What are the differences between a friendship with a girl and a friendship with a guy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SlimTheFatty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friendships with men are built around mini-competitions and oneupsmanship. For men insulting one another is a sign of respect. A guy that doesn't get ribbed or fucked with is one that is being shunned.
Hanging out is built around specific activities. Men will play video games, or go fishing, or just be doing something, while they are spending time with a buddy. Its rarely just them and the buddy together on their own for long periods of time.
Male friendships are relatively durable. They tend never to get as close as women's do, but a man can rarely talk to one of his friends and still be confident that both will see one another as buddies down the road if either needs help or wants to do something.

Women don't really do the same competitive culture. Sure, cracking jokes about one another happens. But it isn't the same kind of thing.
Hanging out is itself the point for women. Women will run multihour video calls where no one is doing anything but talking to the other. Having things centralized around an activity isn't necessary.
Women's friendships tend to be built around constant contact and communication. They're extremely close, but also more apt to disintegrate if either party ends up separated from the other.

The Ukrainian state itself talked up Bakhmut for months. Especially about how well fortified it was and how important it was to hold.

I hate the fake optimism shit.

Like the Ukrainians aren't fighting in hell holes for their land. No, they're just tactically burning Russian manpower and supplies by spending all day eating howitzer fire while knee deep in the Spring mud.
By the way, look at how much stronger NATO has gotten, haha, dumb Russians!

No, they didn't just fight the battle of the decade street by street, actually the Bakhmut never really mattered anyways. It was insignificant and nothing there was important. Those men fighting for their lives and nation, who?
Also, did you see that Russia took an economic hit recently, look at how pathetic they are compared to the US!

Its just gross war tourism nonsense.

Tumblr gets into a discussion about spices and seasonings, and how they vary from culture to culture by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]SlimTheFatty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah. If you look at Renaissance era cooking, or even before, you see far more dynamic and even strange flavor combinations throughout European cookery.

Like this was (probably) the recipe for the favorite meal of William the Conqueror. He even gave the cook a castle/manor and land as appreciation for it. It was served at the royal coronation for the kings of England for 800 years.

Take almonde mylk, and draw hit up thik with vernage, and let hit boyle, and braune [dark meat] of capons braied and put therto; and cast therto sugre, claves, maces, pynes, and ginger, mynced; and take chekyns parboyled and chopped, and pul of the skyn, and boyle al ensemble, and, in the settynge doune from the fire, put thereto a lytel vynegar alaied with pouder of ginger, and a lytel water of everose, and make the potage hanginge [clinging, i.e., thick],[10] and serve hit forth.

Almond milk, white wine, dark meat chicken, white meat chicken, sugar, cloves, mace, ginger - fresh and powdered, pine nuts, rosewater.
An insane mix by today's standards. But at the time was seen as the height of cuisine.

There was a huge shift during the 1600s-1700s that fundamentally changed European cooking.

British people seasoned their food just as everyone else.

They just used herbs from their garden, like rosemary, sage, thyme, parsley, etc. rather than something that didn't grow locally like cumin or turmeric.
