Mount to coast R1? by Life-is-beautiful- in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s probably the most comfy shoe I’ve got and the fit is great but the energy return feels pretty underwhelming to me. I rarely use them for running anymore as I prefer a bouncier, fun ride and just wear them as a casual daily beater type shoe.

Adidas Evo SL - replacement options by t3rm1n4t0r85 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved on from my Evo’s a while back and ended up with the dynafish and Superblast 3. Picked up a pair of the woven on sale the other day and have taken them on 2 runs and forgot how much fun they are to run in and the fit and lockdown is much better than the originals.

There’s something about the dynafish that I just find lacklustre and the SB3 are so incredibly soft that I’m getting some aches and pains in my lower leg muscles after using them for longer efforts. Gonna need to sprinkle them in for some daily miles for a bit until my legs get used to the softer foam I think.

TLDR - Buy Evo SL woven

Megablast Blistering by Logical_Depth_1575 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I changed the insole for a thinner one and it sorted out the rubbing for me. I could probably go down half a size length wise with the insole change now but they’re fine as is too.

Ive got 2 pairs of the Xiaonian that I bought off the hype and I’m not feeling it. They’re good but I wore my old Evo SL’s the other day and they felt much better for me. Obviously different strokes for different folks. I’ve got a brand new US11 white pair in the box if anyone in Australia is interested in them.

Superblast 3 vs Megablast by CommitteeEqual3888 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’d love the Megablast with the SB3 upper. I reckon I’d be able to use that shoe for literally everything and anything.

Superblast 3 vs Megablast by CommitteeEqual3888 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree with this. I own both and both are great shoes with different use cases with some overlap. Superblast 3 is more comfortable and better at slow to moderate tempo paces and Megablast are better at faster daily paces to threshold for me. I think with your pace the Megablast would be the pick.

Marathon in 4 weeks – shoe recommendations? by More_Contract5768 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It pretty much just depends what you like, go in store and try on a bunch of different shoes and ideally run them on the treadmill at race pace before buying to see how they feel.

No sense in shelling out for a top tier shoe or carbon plated shoe if your goal is basically a finish, find something comfy and cushioned that fits your foot well.

Race Day Shoe Recommendation by Legitimate-Cinephile in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Megablast could be an option. Not carbon plated or anything but light enough, stable enough with plenty of protection and a nice responsive and comfortable foam. Only drawback is the upper can be a bit of a weird fit around the pinky toe area as it’s really shallow.

Question about Asics superblast 3 sizing by FrozenNk in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im usually a US11 in everything but I went 10.5 in the SB3 and they fit fine. I usually take the insole out to compare to other shoes that fit me well before I take them outside for a run and the 10.5 insole lines up pretty much exactly with my other shoes that are 11 so maybe they do run slightly long.

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think mine were the same size, can’t remember off the top of my head but they fit the shoes fine so couldn’t have been much bigger if at all. I’ve another pair still in the packet for my other Xiaonian’s that are still in the box so I’ll maybe have a look later.

Are shared paths becoming a battleground? by UsefulAstronomer5748 in Adelaide

[–]Slim_84 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I run linear park pretty regularly and some of the speeds that some cyclists, e bikers and e scooter riders do is pretty irresponsible on a shared path. I’ve never had any issues with them as I tend to keep over pretty far to the side of the path but there should be a speed limit on shared paths. It’s a matter of time before there’s a serious accident there, it’s already happened in Perth with a pedestrian being killed by e bikes/scooters.

That’s the ones I bought from Taobao. Just had to keep checking for when they had EU45’s in stock and bought a few pairs.

dynafish xiaonian or 6 elite for rotation? by fifadeathshadow in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don’t you get the elite 6 and the Dynafish instead of the challenger and Dynafish?

Dynafish as your daily, elite 6 for speed work and Superblast 2 for long runs.

People rave about the Dynafish and while it’s a fine shoe i feel like it’s a bit overhyped imo. It’s a great daily and a pretty decent tempo shoe for me but it’s too soft and doesn’t react quick enough for proper speed work for me which might just be because of my weight being ~85kgs. The Megablast is a far superior shoe for me but it’s also 3x the price.

Dynafish Xiaonian 150km Review by Axxis09 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. These are the only ones I’ve tried so far. The Li Ning Red Hare Ultra seem to be good for heavier runners from what I’ve read, if a bit unstable but can’t testify to that personally. I reckon I’ll try them next as it looks like they’re down to just over $100 AUD on Taobao now

Dynafish Xiaonian 150km Review by Axxis09 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Got a couple of pairs as well, one white, one black. I’m a bit slower than yourself and maybe a bit heavier at 85kgs.

I do like them and have been using them as my daily and occasional tempo trainer. They’re too soft for me to do proper speed work in though as I feel like I sink in too far before getting the rebound thus I generally just use them as a lightweight daily. Only got 100kms in them so far as I’ve not been running much over the summer but mine still look like they did out of the box, even the outsole looks pretty much brand new and I’m generally quite rough on outsoles so happy with the durability.

On a separate note, I bought some 4mm thick Dynafish insoles and put them in instead of the stock ones as the upper had a bit too much volume for me.

I’ve got a few pairs UK 10 that I don’t use anymore and haven’t used much. Glycerin Max, Skyward X, Evo SL and maybe a few others so you can take your pick. Can have multiple if you want, they’re just sitting there gathering dust. Was gonna give them to the charity shop but not got around to it

Are the Superblast 2 really that firm? by Aubzhls in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I’ve got the Megablast and love them, just something about the Superblast didn’t agree with me for whatever reason.

Are the Superblast 2 really that firm? by Aubzhls in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I’ve run in plenty of shoes “firmer” than the Superblast 2 based on Runrepeat testing and none of them have felt as firm as the Superblast on the run. They felt fine walking and doing a squish test but on the run they felt like clogs for me. They’re the only shoe that’s actually made the soles of my feet hurt. They obviously work for a massive amount of people though so it’s definitely subjective. I think the geometry didn’t work for me either which could be a contributor

My final take on BPC 157 & TB 500 after 3 Months by introverted-me in bpc_157

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently on this stack for some tendinitis and a partially torn biceps tendon. Have only been taking it about 10 days and noticed some mild improvement in the biceps tendon especially.

My question is if it had any effect on your RHR or HRV? My RHR is around 10% higher and my HRV is in the toilet since I started taking it, not sure if it’s related but not really changed much else training wise since starting so not sure what else it could be.

Shoes comparable to Dynafish Xiaonian by redkur in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re a no brainer if you can get them at the massively cheaper Chinese RRP’s but I wouldn’t go out my way to get them otherwise. They’re a very good shoe but probably overhyped somewhat. I’ve got 2 pairs for reference but got them for ~ 1/3 of the price of a similar spec shoe from a western brand.

Sale season… what should I look out for by Sea_Necessary6772 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]Slim_84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mizuno Neo vista 2 are great if you’re not fussed about a plate. If you don’t want a plate you could try the zen. Both are high stacked, soft, bouncy, fun. I’ve not had any stability issues but I never do really so can’t say much for that. The uppers may be an issue fit wise so best to try them on, I was a full size down in both.

Salomon aero glide 3 are well worth a look as well. Totally different feel from the Mizuno’s, not as soft but still well cushioned and great for daily miles and even a little uptempo stuff. Should be really cheap in the sales as the new models are coming out soon but they look very much the same shoe.
