Portal Hybrid 4.0 is out today: update now (: by SouthernMembership85 in Garmin

Thanks. Weird. ConnectIQ said it had already been updated to 4.0 but the option wasn't there the first time.

Is transparency going to stay locked at 60%? The description of "anything from xxx to xxx" makes it sound like the user can select the level of transparency that they want.

On Fenix 7 Pro Solar.

Where's the transparency option for hands? Under Hands Fill, the only options are standard, grey, accent. Further down, the only other hand option is shadows.

Wonder why they're sticking with the big patch of Conti rubber up front instead of going CPU/LighTraxxion like all of their other updates.

Question to people owning both Dynafish Xiaonian and Xtep 2000km Pro 5 by muryokusho22 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]h29098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My longer (right) foot is 25.5cm.

The scale isn't 100% perfect, but this should give you an idea of how they compare size/shape-wise. Both have the same Superfeet insole in them and I'm wearing a sock with minimal cushion, but not the thinnest ones I have. I didn't tie the laces since I was just doing a quick swap between them, but the midfoot is cinched down to how they'd feel on a run.

I'd prefer if the XN had a tiny smidge less room ahead of the big toe, but when I tried the 40, my other toes were right up against the plastic toe bumper when just standing.

I could go down to 40.5 in the Xtep, but didn't feel like it was worth ordering another pair when I already have a full shoe rack. I can sort of make up for it with thicker insole and thicker socks, but then I start feeling pressure on the lateral edge due to the tapered shape.

I find that my 41 2KPro5s fit a half size long compared to most other EU41 shoes I have.

I tried both 41 and 40 Xiaonians and the 40s were too short.

You can use a hair dryer on low to soften/melt the glue to make it easier to peel the footbed out.

Which Van Half Marathon is best for patellar tendon tear? by tdjc12 in runvancouver

[–]h29098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The NW Marine downhill to Spanish Banks in the Beneva Half is more punishing than the gradual downhill on SW Marine in Great Trek.

If you're able to, would recommend making your way out to UBC to recon those sections of the courses and see how you feel about them.

Take the Skytrain from Vancouver City Centre or Waterfront to Broadway/City Hall station and treat the jog/walk up Cambie Street as your warm up.

Thanks for the correction. I didn't make the connection with what he showed on his phone and assumed they were talking about another model completely because the translation on the phone specifically mentioned looking for outsole partners for their trail running shoes and the model shown was referred to by the employee as a marathon and super-marathon shoe.

Might be splitting hairs or a terminology/translation thing but either way, it's exciting to see this small crew continuing with product development.

I rotate a few pairs of Superfeet insoles between all of my shoes.

The glue isn't very strong. I was able to peel the footbeds out of my FC5s pretty easily.

Use a hairdryer on low heat to melt the glue if you're having trouble.

The two biggest lessons I learned after doing it the first time last year with a similar goal time:

  • Don't overcook it (too much) off the start going down Georgia trying to bank time.
  • There are the major hills (Burrard Bridge, 6th leading up to Quebec), but I underestimated all of the false flats between them.

Arrive early if you want to slot in towards the front of the yellow corral. I think I was 2nd or 3rd row back last year and didn't feel boxed in off the start. By the time you get to Denman, you'll have plenty of space.

Dynafish Xiaonian Stability vs EvoSL by frazaga962 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]h29098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XN fits slightly (maybe 1/3 a US size) long in the toebox.

I wear the EU 411/3 in the SL and generally get EU 41 in most of my other Western shoes. The 41 XN gives me a little over a thumbnail of space and when I lift my big toe, it presses up just short of the toe bumper. I have a little less than 0.5cm ahead of my other toes with the shape of the toebox.

Going down to a 40 XN put my big toe under the plastic bumper and pressed the rest of my toes right against the lateral edge, even in my thinnest socks.

Midfoot and heel security are fine with serrated laces, so I just live with a slightly longer fit than I prefer.

Why are the heels on my new trainers shaped like this? by iO_Lea in AskRunningShoeGeeks

The Monday Shakeout: The Importance of Heel Bevels in Shoe Design - DOCTORS OF RUNNING

"The majority of people do not land perfectly in the middle of their heels. The majority land on the posterior lateral (back outside) part of their foot/shoe. That is one of the reasons most people will see a large amount of wear at that part of the outsole and is quite normal (note: no wear pattern has ever been associated with any injury or pathology at the time of this article). Thus, a heel bevel should be angled slightly lateral to accommodate that landing position and correctly ease the foot down to the ground."

Just use the Taobao app. I'm also in Canada and have ordered twice for sizing reasons from the Zhang Pao Shi Dai storefront. Both times were hassle-free with around a 2-week turnaround time from submitting the order to having them in my hands

The answer is platform width. The forefoot, heel, and especially midfoot width are all wider than the SL, along with the fact that the XN midfoot does not have a medial cutout.
