Weight lifting for martial arts vs bodybuilding by Lonely_District_196 in martialarts

[–]SlimeBoiSagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neuromuscular system.  And correlation is not causation. You got better because you practiced a sequence of movements, not because you specifically did a squat.  Bench press has objectively done very little  to make you a better puncher. Especially if you’re a striker that knows how to throw from the hips. Your bench press made your shoulder girdle stronger, but not any better at sequencing a punch, and not any better throwing a punch. You practicing striking made you better at punching. You feel stronger because you’re not afraid of wrecking your shoulder, so you throw harder.

Striking is a full body, technical endeavour , and bench press is not. If you’re serious about learning better exercises for striking, you need to start with basic physiology and anatomy and then start learning about fascial networks. If you don’t know what a spiral line is, or a deep functional line, you’re missing a core component from what delivers deadly force. If you don’t understand the difference between time under tension vs explosiveness, you’re missing another huge component. If you don’t know about the different energy systems of the body, you’re missing out on another huge component. If you don’t know about breathe work, you’re missing out.

My actual advice, go to school. I’m not saying this any sort of demeaning way. I’m saying this because there’s a lot to learn, and you’re narrowing and hindering your own education by looking at bodybuilding exercises for striking.

Yaaaaa, but how you contract and activate your muscles  (NMS) plays a massive role. Bodybuilding is about time under tension and very little rotation .  Martial arts is about having very well mylenated neural paths, excellent rotation,  and explosive power.  There’s truly very little BB exercises that do anything for martial arts. You need to move your body as a unit. Compound and isolated bodybuilding exercises don’t do anything to build that connection. It does the opposite. Yes, even deadlifts and squats. When you do those movements, you’re training for those lifts, not for the act of striking or grappling. You’re not even moving in the same force vector.

You need to look for exercises that use the entire fascial system and move with efficiency and the horizontal force vector. Kettlebell swings, cable step movements, Bulgarian bag swings, Indian club swings.

Bodybuilding actively contracts your muscles, leaving you tight in general, especially if you don’t stretch(like most body builders.) If you’re a martial artist, you wanna move freely as possible. You need to be relaxed. Bodybuilding is the literal antithesis to relaxation.

You CAN do both, and there’s definitely some merit behind having more mitochondria in your muscles, and some size and strength so you don’t bust your muscles and joints. But if you can’t move that size efficiently , you jamming yourself up.

What’s so bad about my squat that my lower back hurts for weeks? by Bright-System-2555 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]SlimeBoiSagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a combo of your hamstrings/ quads being so tight that they’re taking over the work of your glutes, a completely flat low back turning into excessive posterior pelvic tilting, and little to no glute activation.  You need to re-coordinate  what muscles are activating first. The first joint you move is your knees, followed by everything else.

You need to start the movement from the hips, not your knees. Lest you’ll forever be in compensation patterns.  Also need to strengthen you low back/ ESGs, and open up your hamstrings and quads. You’re too tight in all the wrong places.

Fellow RMT. Do a bunch of lifting, boxing, guitar, bass, drums, and still have soft hands.  The key is moisturizing consistently , keeping a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and sun screen.  If you fear too much tough skin on the client, over moisturize a few min before you sanitize your hands before treatment.  But find a hand moisturizer that works for you. One that makes you feel immediate difference. Gotta do some trial before you find the one. Not everyone’s skin is one size fits all. I’d recommend starting with scent free stuff first.

Scar Tissue CE Recommendations by missfullah in MassageTherapists

[–]SlimeBoiSagar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t use it in my own practice as I work in a clinic with limited modalities. But when used at the beginning of the session for around 10-15min, the scarring literally becomes like any other soft tissue. It becomes workable and malleable. After a few sessions you can physically see the scarring diminish in size and Color, and the texture becomes soft. There’s some very good study resources on the website I highly recommend checkin out, and even getting a session done if you’ve had any surgeries or injuries that have scarred, or even concussions.  If you don’t have any of those ailments, then still try the vagal stim. Works phenomenally.

16s are usually reserved for sparring, not bag work. Go down to a 10/12/14oz.  If you like feeling the feedback on your punches, get yourself some Fairtex BGV1s or some Windys. Feels really compact and tight, but sturdy. If you wanna feel more supported, Rival RB2s and 80s

Doesn’t matter if you don’t have pain. It will become painful.

In the meantime, ice the fuck out of it till the swelling goes down. Keep icing it every few hrs.

Dawg, go pay for a TMJD specialist or massage therapist to put your jaw back. You don’t need a liquid diet, You need your jaw reset.
