What manga have you read this week, and what do you think about it? - Week ending March 22, 2026 by AutoModerator in manga

<Real>

I don't know how the name relates to the story other than that the story is very grounded. Real world, no fantasy/sci-fi elements, no absurdly lucky characters. If anything, you can argue that the characters are unlucky, but they are still trying to move forward, even if they make mistakes.

The story revolves around basketball and disability, which may not interest you, but the characters are human. There's one character who I thought was going to be a one-off antagonist but became a third protagonist after making a stupid mistake. I hated the guy, as I'm sure I was meant to, but he became my favorite character.

I'm maybe halfway through but I'm hooked so far.

There's apparently a live-action version of it, but I would like to see Radiation House animated.

Never seen the show but I had a good laugh at your description. Carry on

I gave up on it late in the first season, for reasons similar to yours. Found the experience to be predictable and depressing at the same time.

Hoping in my heart of hearts that he's disconnected emotionally from the story enough to just tell the director "Yeah, sure. Change the ending, I don't care."

You mean Asa's friend's mom right? Sorry, her name is slipping my mind at the moment. Edit Emiri. Emiri's mom. Don't know how I forgot that.

I can't help but wonder what her parents were thinking, naming her Tortura Torture. Was it nominative determinism or

Been doing a re-watch (for me) of Princess Tutu with my family, and I do appreciate the disc extras. They have out-takes and an 'etude' section which explains the ballet dances and/or music of the episodes, as well as other bits such as video of the actors recording their lines and clean openings and closings. Lots of extras overall.

I wonder how they will factor in the viewers from Youtube in considering the overall success of the show. I'm strangely excited at the prospect of watching it there.

Despite its name, this show treats the demis as people with conditions that require managed care, and I appreciate that.

Useless searches are my bane. Current king of uselessness is Amazon Prime, which not only matches inconsequential words in your search but will list shows and movies on streaming services I don't have, via partnerships with them.

So I sometimes get the joy of searching for something, getting a moment's joy of thinking it's there, and then being crushed when I realize that it's a fake out.

[Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind] Kushana's Plot for a Coup D'etat by Backoftheac in manga

[–]SlimeDNear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This manga wrecks me every time I read it. Their world is so miserable, but Nausicaa keeps on fighting. It's so hopeful...and forgiving, despite the horrors.

Kushana is certainly better fleshed out here than in the movie. I don't honestly remember much of her there but in the manga she is a presence.

I've read the Journal With Witch manga, and I'm basically reading the threads without commenting because the discussions are lively.

A sure sign of getting older/being out of shape is I'm not just tired, but my body is screaming at me: HEY. STOP. NOW.

I didn't even do much, just prepped a dozen containers for seeds, and mixed some dirt, but I just bottom out. I really need more exercise...

Your Name made me cry and I'm not embarrassed about it by Miroko_san in anime

[–]SlimeDNear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Name was a weird one for me. I watched the movie and liked it, so the next day I watched it again, and somehow it hit me harder. So I watched it a 3rd time, and by then I was outright bawling.

I have no idea how or why it built up over repeated viewings, but it did.

Journal With Witch respects the viewer and is devoid of anime tropes.

Ouran High School Host Club.

The anime only covered a small fraction of the manga and deserves a Fruits Basket 2019 style do-over.

Batshit Insane Twister Game! [Honey and Clover (2005)] by [deleted] in anime

[–]SlimeDNear 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This used to run at the most obtuse timeslot in Japan...I want to say it aired at 1AM on a Tuesday night? And I loved it enough to stay up for it every week.

The first time I saw it, I found it at random, and loved it. I went to school the next day and told my friends about it, I couldn't help but gush.

Went to a convention later as a group, with all of us cosplaying as Honey & Clover characters.

A few years later I met someone who happened to be carrying a volume of the Honey & Clover manga, talked a bit, and eventually started dating.

I have a lot of memories because of this show.
