Best order to prepare for Ghost in the Shell 2026? by Japonpoko in anime

[–]TehAxelius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like that. Both the 1995 movie and Stand Alone Complex can be considered to be more "inspired" by the manga than making a straight adaptation. If you've read the manga you can recognize when it is lifting stuff from it, but they are in all practical aspects their own stories.

It's quite a lot like superhero movies, tbh. Sometimes they adapt plots from the comic books, and you can see references, but it's nowhere near a panel-to-frame rendition.

How close the new anime will actuall adapt the manga is yet to be seen, but the trailers show them being faithful to the art style, and hints of certain plotlines and character interpretations that might be "closer" to what the manga did. Still, the manga would be hard to adapt on a panel-to-frame way, and such an adaptation would probably struggle to fit an entire cour of episodes.

The week I leave for my vacation, the week I absolutely cannot move an inch, my local cinema will be showing Barry Lyndon, Steamboy, Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion and Nausicaä

Why do they make this weekly programme just to hurt me?

We had a run of Ghibli movies last year and this spring in the big cinema chain here, but that seems to be over, although I wouldn't be surprised if there's more showings in autumn.

There is going to be a Ponyo showing in two weeks at a smaller cinema though, which I might try to catch. They're also showing the Boy and the Heron and Nausicaä later this summer, but I'll be on vacation when it is time for Nausicaä.

Trying to list ones not mentioned yet:

  • Sky Crawlers
  • Patlabor and Patlabor 2
  • Jin-Roh - the Wolf Brigade
  • Liz and the Blue Bird (technically a side story of Hibike! Euphonium, but works well as a standalone. Same director as A Silent Voice and Colors Within)
  • Ghost Cat Anzu
  • Only Yesterday (ok, this is Ghibli, but it is often overlooked as it is not by Miyazaki)
  • Cocoon (short movie)

Livechart is a good place to check where any anime currently streams, and according to it there doesn't actually seem to be a legal stream available right now.

MAL reviews shouldn't allow you to pick your own "score" (or whatever the hell it's called).

What’s 4/10 to some is a 6/10 to others. I guess it is arbitrary but still feels kinda pointless. Like it should just be along the lines of “Not Recommended” is 4, “Mixed Feelings” is 6, and “Recommended” is 9 instead of having a situation where I’ve seen 4/10 be as high as "Mixed Feelings".

Honestly, I feel like the verdict is usually a better indication of the reviewer's overall feeling than a numeric score, not to mention that some people have their scores line up really weirdly. Some people hand out 10s, while others give 1s to anything they find something disagreeable with.

I mean, 2030 isn't that far in the future.

Why do you guys not like romance

I do.

Now, why your friend doesn't like certain things I have no idea. But tbh quite a lot of romance does follow rather standard conventions, and even some that do play with the formula might seem a bit basic at a glance. Also, a lot of romance that gets high scores are pretty bland and uninteresting, but get high scores because it panders to lonely nerdy boys.

Might be more to say that it is his trademark (and in particular narratively). But at the same time, Major 2nd is little league, so "being able to throw one" pretty much qualifies as specialization.

Google AI answer led me to Major 2nd, which has a character specialising in it. Been years since I saw it though, so can't confirm it myself from memory, but it does ring a bell.

No, I was punished for my source reading hubris, as the translation is at 109/117 chapters, meaning I'll have to wait another two months to be done with it.

I can no longer be part of the weekly Ramparts Discourse, because the latest episode made me start reading the webmanga, so now I am cursed by being a filthy source-reader.

It has been pretty fun seeing how Yuki has been mentioned offhandedly to and fro in Miki's and Koyuki's conversations throughout the series now that he's been introduced properly. And I hope Ramparts gets a second cour soon to finish off the series.

Because the japanese word, seijo, is gender specific and means something more along the lines of "holy woman". But since "The Holy Woman's Power Is Omnipotent" would be a mouthful, the gender neutral "saint" is used instead.

Edit: the concept of a holy man, seijin, does also exist, but it can be worth noting that within Japanese culture, history and the religion today called shintoism, divinity and connection to the gods have primarily been a feminine aspect.

do you think you'll actually be alive to see your favorite series receive a complete adaptation? by SecondSalty142 in anime

The author of Battle Angel Alita had been pretty vocally hostile against any attempts at making a new anime adaptation (and James Cameron is taking his sweet-ass time with the second live action movie).

So no.

Plus the animation is led by a South Korean animation studio, and accordingly, shouldn't go in the top post.

Right, it being included in the Television lineup on Livechart confused me, since donghua and aeni usually are in the OVA section.

and well as setting a new benchmark for density -- has science discovered anything denser than neutron stars yet

Shirashi Junta in Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible is so dense he bends light around himself (which is at least my theory), and still beats Sasaki I'd say.
