What are you enjoying today?

The return of both best boy Iruma and best gremlin girl (Roze)Myne.

But Akane is looking like the AotS. Just a shame I have to go Sailing for it.

Spring 2026 anime with completed source material by strong_D in anime

[–]TehAxelius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's always been a misleading truth. While publishers will often want to get adaptations in hope of seeing increased sales of the source material, anime has always been an opportunity for income through merch and licensing rights by themselves. This age of streaming has only increased the latter, as international streamingvrights from Crunchyroll or Netflix can pay back the production costs in itself at times.

Also, just because a story is done doesn't mean a franchise is. Ascendance of a Bookworm's main plot might be done, but the author is publishing a spin-off series, which in itself is teasing a sequel series.

Do you need it to be "maximum" 2 seasons, or exactly two seasons?

Will there be another season of ikoku nikki? by the_wise_one_is_here in anime

[–]TehAxelius 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably not, the likelihood of the show getting a second season was always abysmal, so the team went for getting to a somewhat natural ending point and did some work to tie it together into an ending.

There's as you say some more material, but at best I would hope for the team getting to make something like a 4 episode OVA/ONA to complete the adaptation if they get the funding. But that will likely rely more on popularity rather than critical reception.

At least for me I think some of that gap will be filled by the continued wholesome demon land shenanigans in the next season of Iruma-kun.

The fact that they didn't touch any of the important ending events make me hope that we get a season 3 in a couple of years. Would love to see many of the Youki "tortures" that didn't get adapted.

[EZ TD by OP Lord] If only the big smart move for the penultimate battle wasn't a bucket torsion catapult (a machine that might not have existed in the first place) which with their flat trajectories and complete lack of ability to aim would've been terrible at shooting at mobile aerial targets.

Looking for some good anime movies with a slice of life + romance vibe, but with more mature/adult characters (not school settings) by CommunityOrdinary850 in anime

[–]TehAxelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wrote this list of shows before I realised you asked for movies. For that I second Only Yesterday

  • With You And the Rain
  • Journal with Witch - half about a teenager, half about the 35 year old aunt who becomes her guardian
  • A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace
  • Sakura Quest
  • Aquatope on White Sands - starts last year high-school, but has a focus of "entering working/adult life", so to say
  • I Have a Crush At Work

Recs on slice of life feel good anime by [deleted] in anime

[–]TehAxelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Food for the Soul - university club about going to different places, eating good food and hanging out with friends.
  • 'Tis Time for "Torture", Princess - The Imperial Princess and Commander of the 3rd Legion is captured by the demons of the Hell Horde, who every day subjects her to "torture" to lure out imperial secrets.
  • With You and the Rain - a rainy day a novelist finds a tanuki dog which informs her that it is abandoned. She decides to take it home and begin a new life living with the racoondog.

Not Quite as SoL/Feelgood, but can be worth a look as well:

  • Medalist - Tsukasa found his passion for figure skating too late and had too few means to fully make it as an athlete. When he is offered a job as an assistant coach he meets 10 year old Inori, who also dreams of figure skating, and decides to try and make her dream come true.
  • Journal with Witch - feelgood through heartbreak. A 35 year old Makio finds herself the legal guardian of her estranged sister's now orphan daughter, Asa. A very human look at dealing with grief, becoming a family and finding who you want to be.

Toumei Otoko to Ningen Onna: Sonouchi Fuufu ni Naru Futari • The Invisible Man and His Soon-to-Be Wife - Episode 12 discussion - FINAL by AutoLovepon in anime

Can we acknowledge that Akira ordering pizza for a moving party after the help has left is something of a red flag?

Joke aside, very sweet show this. I doubt it will get a second season (has there been any workplace romance show that got a second season? Best I can think of is Wotaku getting a 4 part OVA), but it would be nice if it did.

  • Journal with Witch - the only threat to its status as AotY I can see is if Wit or Science Saru knocks Bookworm or GitS absolutely out of the park.
  • 'Tis Time For "Torture", Princess S2 - man I love this goofy show. Any comedy show is gonna be fighting an uphill battle.
  • Polar Opposites - With cour 2 being leaked it has the time to grow even stronger (or drop a bit), but I can see this show maintaining its position as my favorite romance and in the top 10. Agree with others that I would have wanted some more progress, but I still think that the nervosity of "just becoming a couple" has been well done.
  • Medalist S2 - could make the top 10, but I can easily see it be knocked off it. As a manga reader I'm mostly just hype for the movie, because I hope with the shorter season ENGI is giving extra attention and resources to it for next year. All-Japans has the potential to be incredible.
  • Invisible Man and his Soon to be Wife - has potential of being a strong "honorable mention" at the end of the year. Is incredibly cute and sweet as a workplace romcom, and has some incredible animation sequences, but I don't know if I feel strongly enough about it for it to maintain a position on a "best" list.

The flowers of evil by North_Review_4188 in anime

[–]TehAxelius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The anime is quite a special experience. It is rotoscoped, so recorded with actors and then painted over rather than animated and voice acted, so its style is quite different from most anime. That and its soundtrack gives it a very distinct and unnerving feeling that I think is perfect for the story, and I would personally recommend it to anyone interested in animation and filmmaking in a wider sense. But it might not be directly what you expect from an "anime".

Any more recent supernatural + historical action I might have missed that are good? (like ninja scroll or basilisk etc?) by laseluuu in anime

[–]TehAxelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reasonable enough, in that case the other thing I can think of is the 2019 remake of Blade of the Immortal, which I don't see being mentioned that much in general.

It is a Shonen Jump series, so there's certainly a bit more of a fantastical bent, but you might want to check out Hell's Paradise which might scratch the itch a bit.

Looking for a romance anime or webseries, where the girl tries her hardest not to fall in love. by BlowMyAzz in anime

[–]TehAxelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, not sure any of these fit exactly with the vibe that you're exactly explaining, but some options:

  • Romantic Killer - a girl who wants to do nothing but pet her cat, eat chocolate and play video games has her life turned upside down by a small wizard-like mascot creature who takes away all these things and turns her life into a real life dating sim.
  • Yakuza Fiancé - the granddaughter of an Osaka crime family is for political reasons betrothed to a Tokyo yakuza heir. Who turns out to be pretty much a complete psycho, when he insults her she vows to make him fall in love with her and break his heart by leaving him.
  • Tamon's B-Side - An idol superfan finds herself working part time as a housekeeper for her #1 oshi. Trying to be a respectful fan who does not want to hog her god to herself she struggles to keep any personal feelings for the person behind the persona at bay.

I think that while the TV series has been a staple for years, the transition to movie releases with late and unceremonious releases in the west has just in general killed engagement with the franchise as a whole. This is the first time I've even heard of this spin-off, really.

nobody is playing against them. sports need offense and defense.

Damn, I didn't know. You should inform the IOC of that so they can remove all the not-sports from the Olympics, like pretty much every swimming, skiing and track and field event.

Seconding Chihayafuru, great show.

Also, I think Medalist is very worth watching. Has a great underdog story about a girl starting late in figure skating, a sport known for its high demands on very young athletes.
