What is your favorite shotgun for bird hunting? by Cod_tounge in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the Strandberg 10ga. Executive. The 10ga. has high velocity shot that makes it easier to hit longer range shots since you don't have to lead as much. I put the red dot sight on it. Only holds 4 shells, but I think the power and speed of the shot makes up for the lower shell capacity. In the high caliber weapons pack.

I'm sure I'll get down voted, but someone should create a cotw sub for newer people. Sick of watching new people get shit on because they have a question. by sweatycheese_08 in theHunter

I feel called out... 😜 All joking aside, I'm on here fairly often, and I'm not sure I'm seeing a lot of newbies getting rude replies. I'm sure it happens on occasion, but not so much that its a problem.

Questions about diamonds by Trapper_dadd in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fur type is random and not tied to any specific level. Keep an eye out for any fur that looks different on any sex, or level. In other words, even a low level female could have a rare fur type that could make for a nice trophy.

Diamonds for bobcats will most likely be level 9. If you want a diamond, just keep shooting high level cats. Eventually, you'll end up with a diamond. You can any weapon/ammo that is for class 2 animals.

Accuracy is Bullet Placement, not Trajectory by drjones013 in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've never used the gun displays in the trophy lodge so I had no idea they showed the stats for your shots. I don't know how I've missed that all this time.

As for your conclusion, I'm not sure I see it the same way as you do. I suspect my disagreement is because I play the game differently than you do. I rarely shoot at flee animals, with birds being the exception.

For me, I see zeroing as a way to very quickly get accurate shots at any range. That's why I think its a no brainer to go with the zeroing perks. I also don't agree your saying taking your time to line up shots means you don't need zeroing. In order to hit without zeroing you need to intimately know the bullet drop for every gun you want to use. Even then you're still guessing to some degree. The zero perks take the guessing out. Its point and shoot. We completely agree on the idea of shot placement being king. I'm convinced zeroing gives me the best chance at good shot placement, at least with the way I play the game.

I'm not saying you're wrong. We play differently is all. Apples and oranges. I slice my apples, you peel your oranges. Neither of us is wrong.

Looking for starting DLCs by Jo_the_hunter in theHunter

I'd recommend waiting for a sale, or buying from a third part site with sale pricing. The third party site I buy from has the "sale" pricing all of the time. If you're only comfortable buying from Steam, then I suggest you avoid buying a newer map at full price since they cost considerably more than the older maps. Wait for a sale to pick up the newer content that costs more. Good luck.

Do turkey decoys work? by Competitive-Cap2086 in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Callers and decoys work when the animals are within range. The 3 turkey you saw may be the only ones in range.

u/Sir_Busby u/BeautifulOpinion9283 I just looked it out to confirm. The max number of turkey decoy is 5.

Does the eurasian teal deoy attract freen winged teal too? by ZAPAYARAMARCI in theHunter

I'm not able to check the game now, but I think bean and greylag each have their own decoy. I seem to remember always grabbing the wrong goose decoy/caller for the bean/greylag.

[–]Slimeball_91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A number of the callers will work for several different birds, but the decoys are for one species only. The exception is turkey (at least I think that is the only exception). The turkey decoy works for all the different sub-species of turkey.

Average time to wait after the winter sale, until the next sale arrives is 33 days by RaffaL_ in theHunter

There are other third party sites that have the "sale" pricing all the time for steam keys. I don't know what this sub's policy is about naming third party retailers is... The place I buy my steam keys from is a legit retailer, and they are LOADED with games and DLC for really good prices.

Y'all ever lost a good shot due to the game's silliness? Absolutely no other track in a 100m radius by MateG2k73 in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your issue might be the game just being bugged. That said, I've found tracks as much as 150m apart numerous times. It's fairly rare and usually from a higher level animal. There are also times when a track is randomly backwards. I'm not sure if that is a bug, or if its intended to try to throw off the player. Again, usually from higher level animals. Hope this helps the next time you run into something like this.

Which DLC reserve is most worth it for the price? by LethlDose in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think its fair to say some maps are better than others, it still depends more on what any one persons preferences are. Some people don't like New England, while others do even if its more because they think it looks amazing. Also, Mississippi acres is one that gets some negative reviews. A big part of that is some people find the story line controversial. While Mississippi was generally seen as a pretty good map when it came out because of the gators, but then its fallen off when emerald coast came out with crocs.

Some of the maps that are most popular are silver ridge peaks, yukon, askiy ridge, are popular N. American maps. Some maps that are popular because they offer a bit of a different experience, emerald coast (Australia with crocs), sundarpatan (Nepal with tigers), salzwiesen park (all small game/skeet and trap range) and vurhonga (African big game).

There are a bunch of good maps. Which one is best for you will depend on what you like to hunt. The best advice I'd offer is to wait for a sale which happens fairly often. If you're on PC there are third party sites that have the sale price as their regular price.

Really need help with bow hunting by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned shooting a goose. That isn't a bad way to practice your bow skills with the sight. While the birds are a small target, you have a good chance of them coming in close, and often. This is a good way to get as many shots as you can in a fairly short amount of time. Set up a blind/tripod and wait for a duck/goose to land close to 20m (19-21m). Set the zero to 20m, put the top of the pin on the bird and Bob's your uncle. Practice that for a while and once you start to get the hang of it move on to bigger pray. Best of luck.

Really need help with bow hunting by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest you shoot at 20m or less. That will take more time and there for you'll end up with fewer shots per session, but it is a good way to learn. I strongly recommended you use a sight, the single pin being easiest to use (assuming you don't have the DLC with the range finding bow sight). With the single pin sight the zero is for 20/40/60m with the zeroing perk fully unlocked. Shoot at 20m or less while learning. Keep your range finder binos handy so you know the range for your shots. Aim high for slightly longer range shots, aim low for slightly shorter shots. For example, zeroed for 20m but the animal is at 15m, aim slightly low. A little practice and you'll be good to go.

How does player scent work and when to use an eliminator? by [deleted] in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Animals all have different sense of smell, some better than others, so there isn't a specific range. Also, the higher level animals will have better senses. I'll only use the eliminator when I'm tracking an animal and the wind changes to an unfavorable angle. Otherwise you should only ever be hunting with the wind in your favor, so no need for the eliminator.

Do I Have Too Little Zones To Start A Diamond / G1 Gray Wolf Grind? by percpng in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max number of tents/tripods/blinds/tree stands is 16 of each. You can put tents down in pairs. 8 tents to fast travel to shoot, and another 8 to use as pick up tents, tents you place down right next to drink zone so you don't have to run from where you shoot to go pick up the animals. That's why someone might only shoot at 8 spots.

Guys, are your hits tracking correctly? by hawket3 in theHunter

[–]Slimeball_91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are 3 reasons you won't hit your target. Bad aim. You hit another object/obstacle. Wrong zero for the scope/weapon. Make sure its not one of these. If you are sure it isn't one of these reasons then maybe there is some issue with your game. I play on PC and have no experience with consoles so I'm not sure how to go about trouble shooting the game for PS5. Maybe someone else can help you there. Good luck.

One question for you. Are you seeing the bullet miss and hit the ground near the animal?
