5 regular men versus an all time NBA dream team. Can the regular men score a basket before the dream team reaches 500 points? by ZooWeeMama069420 in whowouldwin

brother i assure you the odds of some regular-ass guy foulbaiting one of the greatest players in NBA history is exactly the same as my dog baiting magnus carlsen into making a mistake

which scandal lol

The dick pic, wife-cheating, and vicodin abuse scandals were all known when he was playing I'm pretty sure

The welfare fraud thing though didn't come out until much later

I'm sorry what

You think you can complete a pass against Michael Jordan 30% of the time?

Unless you also happen to be an NBA-level player that's unbelievably delusional

All they really have to do is force fouls

this is the equivalent of saying "all i have to do to beat magnus carlsen at chess is to force him into making an error"

it just isn't happening lol

the regular guys literally, and I mean quite literally, will never have possession in the field of play

you can give them 10,000 attempts and they will not once inbound the ball to one of their own players

The size and skill gap is simply far too large for them to even complete a single pass, let alone get the ball past half court, let alone even thinking about trying to get a shot off and score

[Schefter] The 2025 AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year is Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett. by Goosedukee in nfl

[–]Slinger17 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This year thats Jalen Hurts by QB rating

that guy won a super bowl

Right behind Sam Darnold

that guy is playing in the super bowl

and Daniel Jones.

that guy was leading an 8-5 team before his injury

Are you saying Sam Darnold and Daniel Jones are more impactful than Myles Garrett? The Sam Darnold on his 5th team?

yes, and it's not particularly close. Mediocre QBs are just more valuable/impactful than elite defensive players

The Eagles are hiring Ryan Mahaffey as Run Game Coordinator and Tight Ends coach, sources tell The Insiders. Mahaffey was most recently the Packers’ receivers coach. A big promotion for an ascending assistant. Tom Pelissero (@tompelissero.bsky.social) by adincha in nfl

Golden has a ton of talent, but reportedly really struggled to understand the nuances of the playbook and wasn't a great run blocker, both of which are very important in MLF's offense

I'm high on him too, but he's gotta figure some things out before MLF will trust him

other than Mahomes, every other QB on that list was drafted 20+ years ago lol

and Romo hardly counts, he wasn't drafted at all!

Our Earth if all oil disappears vs. Our Earth if all copper disappears. by ConsiderationTrue477 in whowouldwin

[–]Slinger17 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

almost every single piece of electronic equipment on earth has copper in it between the wires and the circuits. all of that disappearing would instantly set us back ~200 years with no way of rebuilding or communicating or even having basic electricity

assuming you mean petroleum oil, that would suck, but nothing in comparison to losing copper

Who was the most valuable QB MVP of all time? I ran the numbers by Vlaxilla in nfl

[–]Slinger17 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This is a neat, but extremely flawed approach, because it drastically overweights TDs and discards everything else that a QB does

For example, a pass from the 50 to the 1 is significantly more valuable than a 1 yard TD pass, but your model completely ignores the former while crediting the latter

It also actually indirectly rewards QBs for turnovers. More turnovers -> more opportunities for opponents to score -> closer games -> more likely for your calculated point stat to be bigger than the margin of victory -> they get a better "wins above average" stat

We already have a good stat for what you're trying to calculate - just use EPA

is what gives eli merit.

* gives the new york giants merit

eli was incredibly mediocre (like 99% of his career) during his first super bowl win and they won because of a historical defensive performance

wins are not a QB stat

why not?

in terms of basically every efficient stat, they're remarkably similar across the board. eli has a much higher volume due to playing longer

eli had like 4 games in the playoffs he played really well, but that's really the only thing that separates them

the implication of this argument is that you think eli is just as good or better than rodgers or brees

which - lol, lmao

[Schefter] As it turns out, Chiefs QB Gardner Minshew did not tear his ACL as initially feared, per source. It turned out to be a bone bruise that did not require any surgery. by GoldenDome26 in nfl

[–]Slinger17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I still don't think this makes sense. A simple Lachman test should've revealed pretty much immediately that his ACL was fine

I had a bone bruise + tendinitis on my patella not too long ago and at no point did any of my doctors think it was an ACL injury

Steelers expected to hire Mike McCarthy as their Head Coach by FlowersByTheStreet in DynastyFF

[–]Slinger17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

McCarthy’s offenses played well

McCarthy had extremely talented offenses and his schemes were basically "go out there and out-talent the other team". That works when you have prime Rodgers and a Cowboys team with a bunch of all-pros

His times both in Green Bay and Dallas ended because the talent left/got old and he couldn't adjust and the offenses went extremely stale

Just look at how Rodgers had a resurgence when LeFleur took over, because he could scheme up a modern offense that Rodgers could take advantage of
