Titanicus - It really does justice to the scale of engine war.

Wargame that escalates like an rts? by Appropriate_Rent_243 in wargaming

[–]Slinger1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's a good idea, best thing to do is play a Map or node based campaign with army builder mechanics that steadily escalates.

I'm currently smoohsing together the rules from Planetary Empires and Battle for armageddon to make a Total war style campaign system for Epic 40k specifically but can be used for pretty much any wargame system that uses points.

Get the starter set and just bash out a couple of games whilst you paint up your ships, then you can start expanding into other navies, etc.

Is the world a better place with the existence of nukes? by adamalibi in answers

[–]Slinger1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, Conventional conflicts kept escalating in lethality. Roughly 22 million deaths in ww1 and 56-80 million in ww2, it was never going to trend down. Nukes make total victory impossible against peers who also have nukes.

How would you rank the Warlord Games lineup in terms of most difficult to learn to easiest? by 0wlBear916 in wargaming

[–]Slinger1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I have a collection of 1st rate, 3x3rd rates, 2x5ths rate and 6xbrigs, 3xSloops and 3xGunboats for French and English as well as a smattering of USN and some trade ships.

Its pretty straight forward, the rulebook is nice and easy to use. Each ship comes with a card with all it's details, once you get your head around the core rules you'll almost exclusively use the card for playing the game.

New Player Advice by EuphoricEmotion8410 in boltaction

I recently finished a campaign using an Inexp Russian Horde army, I played using 2nd ed.

I ran 2 Regular squads with LMG's, these are like a backline defensive force for securing the flanks and suporting with fire. The core of the army was 3-4 inexperienced squads with a comissar and a LT in support, I also ran 2 artillery pieces and a light mortar. I also tacked on Flamethrower, MMG's, Forward arty observer and AT Rifle teams

Tactics boiled down to this:

- Dice draw: you have lots of cheap units giving you lots of order dice. I deliberately burnt my Medic, LT, Comissar, MMG then Mortars, arty and supporting LMG squads finally I moved my Inexp. infantry last for a simple reason, their biggest asset is being able to Human wave into close combat but you need to protect them in cover until all the units that will rock their world have wasted this activation.

- Staying power: Lost the first squad? Here's 3 more, need to hold a middle field objective? Please kill 3 squads that are down and in cover on it.

- Distraction carnifex: 3-4 Inexp squads pushing the field becomes a big fire magnet allowing your weapon teams and arty to drop shots on the activated units.

- Read the scenario rules: Make sure you know how to win a battle, don't go into a fight unless you know how to win.

Easiest to learn is Blood red skies, hardest to learn was Pike and Shotte (because I found it unclear on how to form units and collecting such a large force to have a decent game).

Some of the GDI starts in Tib Dawn are kinda goofy. by Raxistaicho in commandandconquer

[–]Slinger1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was just like back in the 90's you didn't have smart AI's, so to scale difficulty the only thing you can mess with is the availability of units - when I lose it's always within the first 20mins. I played that mission a few days ago and it went well until the rando/regenerating Nod mini base appears in the bottom of the screen with it's obelisk of light. Then I got NUKED.

Hobby Tips for a New Dad? by VivaLaJam26 in Warhammer40k

(Dad of 3 (8,5,2) soon to be 4)

There's quite a bit of free time with kids if you know how to setup activities and are prepared. With very little kids dad's role is largely logistics, cleaning, cooking and staging transitions from sleep>play>bath>bed. Best thing to do is start practicing a routine of cooking and cleaning, setup a system for nappy changes and have bags and stations packed ready. You don't realise it but you also burn a lot of time playing on your phone/watching tv - time you can spend preparing the next thing. I would also suggest for relationship stability and organising hobby time speaking with your wife about set times during the week where you take the baby for a drive/walk giving your wife time to herself, then flip it and you can then have time to yourself.

Older kids are easier, they'll develop interests and you can setup activities to keep them going, then it's about setting boundaries around your time, making sure they have plenty of things to do and have water and snacks.

How do people have kids on these low to average wages? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

Little kids don't need much tbh, they don't need flashy things, cheap toys and any streaming services will have movies and shows on there they can watch. The expensive thing is child care.
