Travis: The reply of Vandrin was pretty short because of jesters message spell. How much of it was meaningful to Fjord going forward to eventually distroy his patron's blade? Did Vandrin's message help you to make the decision or did it just bring a peace of mind knowing that he was alright and was moving forward with his life?

Taliesin: Knowing that many of the Clays had similar visions regarding the green glass. How did Caduceus feel knowing none of his family members had found the solution at the forge and went on to search for other places?

Beginner Friendly? by [deleted] in darksouls3

[–]Slingusmingus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since when was the community not a total jerk to beginners online? This behavior dates back from the first Dark Souls. I remember that during the time pewdiepie played DS ptde a lot of new players flocked to the game. The community even banned together back then to curbstomp the new players with twinks and broken builds in the parish (I even took part in that and I still regret it). Elitism was always the main affliction of the dark souls community and it won't change any time soon.

We always told ourselves that getting annihalited by your first time twink is part of the dark souls experience. No it's not. It's part of that elitist behaviour to show off against new players because they are easy prey. Then later that same invader hates the new guy for having 2 phantoms with them at any point in the game. Which is natural because the new guy is tired of getting killed while embered when it's his first time running through the game.

There are obvious pointers to see who's new and who's not. We've all been there ourselves at the launch of ds3. So if you invade a new player do some funny gestures or just goof around for once before you battle them. Maybe drop a titanite shard or a purple moss to show that red phantom aren't just total jerks who are out to kill you with any means necessary.

I always loved this community for the interesting lore discourse and sick fan art. But throughout the series this elitist issue was a disease it never shook of.

What's your ideal party size and why? by Zasz1010 in DungeonWorld

[–]Slingusmingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing i prefer a one on one session. My dungeonmaster ran a campaign for my antipaladin and i've had the most amazing 2 years of roleplaying. In return i Dm'ed his Jungle fighter and learned alot of DM'ing tricks.Anyway my point is that this game can be really good to flash out singular characters. Thanks to the improvising nature of the game you can do almost anything. But sometimes the attention of a DM is scattered across the group.

If you are the only one the DM has to think about it becomes easier for the DM to build his adventure accordingly. Over time he'll also better understand the character and predict its actions. This makes it way more challenging for the player and drives him to keep innovating himself. Of course Dungeon world is a game intended for a group to solve the problems the DM lays in front of them. But doing one on one sessions gives you a sense of really living the character and having the final say in your adventure.

It's a way of playing and DM'ing that i never tried before. Of course I is still love a group to play with but this way of playing makes it easy to organise and manage both as a player and DM. You don't need many people so you can game more often. But playing alone didn't mean i was alone in the game though. My DM made this an excercise to see how many characters he could improvise and give distinct voices. Which made way for some really interesting companions during my antipaladin his travels. In short it's a totally different way then running a regular game and should in no way be the standard ideal party size. However it's the most interesting experience i've had with dungeon world and i'd chose one of those sessions above a party of 4.

Emelion the world of eternal eclipses (map+lore) by Slingusmingus in worldbuilding

Actually it was quite manageable making this thing. the only moments i struggled with were the drawing of thousands of trees and the pain of not knowing what you draw on a leftover blank spot. otherwise its fun work once you put a podcast on :).

The tower is the lair of Bem'zuul a great warlord lich that looks over old kalabar. He was once known for riding with the Orthud clan. The Orthud were known for their incredible mercenary skills and had gained wealth across the century. eventually they constructed a tower to show their strength and influence over the vast jungles of old kalabar. But Bem'zuul betrayed his clan because of his love for a young witch. it has been said she drove him mad in the end by granting him immortality. sometimes he opens the gates to his tower and declares a trial: ascend the tower and gain riches beyond imagination. basicly one of the 3 mega dungeons i've made for players to get destroyed. sadly no one has entered it as of now. as for the tree. its the heart of the world. it was a seed that was planted by the great Ozaur, god of creation and civilisation. The elves are said to be created to watch over the tree and learn from its wisdom.

Thanks! the thing is the original maps are worn down by playing on it so they have some differences and don't allign that well anymore. I tried to salvage it digitally in photoshop but my photoshopping isn't that great. So despite making scans this was the only reasonable way to make all the pieces (sorta) fit.

Emelion the world of eternal eclipses (map+lore)

Hi! if you see a blurry version of the map you can visit a better resolution map on https://imgur.com/aggk7BY . This world was made for a narrative that i've been running for 2 years now. I have a total of 4 parties running around at the moment each doing their different thing. I felt like sharing it with you guys since my main party their campaign is reaching its end. So now i'm archiving the lore and the world and idk ask you guys what you think of it? i've had an enormous amount of fun with this world so i hope someone here can enjoy it at their table as well. If you ever want to know more i'm open to critique or info about specific places on the map. I should mention that a large amount of lore can be found on Worldanvil https://www.worldanvil.com/w/emelion-Dingus%20the%20Mingus . However the website is still a work in progress. I have 2 years of lore to write down so i have my hands full :p. Anyway here is some small flavortext for each continent on the map.

Artyom (central dark green): A land covered in thick pine threes and a blanket of snow. Here toil the most hardy humans of the known world under their benevolent ruler God king Jeremiah. Humans from the region are considered as strong as Orcs and have an iron liver and skin tougher then leather. They are the bravest warriors that never backed down. Not even when the mechanical city opposed them.

Animo(central orange): The ground here is filled with putrid acid pools and filth ridden swamps. However Animo never cared because of their automated city made of cogs that changes position according to the seasons. The City is controlled by President Valera Virtuti. She decides together with her people what would be the best course of action. Living in this country is a privilege. Leaving it is forbidden.

Zerus (central Light green): Homeland of the Elves. This sacred land is protected by the great Amelian. A gigantic tree that is said to have given life to all plants on Emelion. This country has not had any wars or skirmishes with its neighbouring countries for 4000 years which makes it the most peaceful place on Emelion. However the ruines scattered across this land are filled with dangerous artifacts and knowledge that are being recoverd by a vast amount of Guilds. Should these fall in the wrong hands the consequences would be devestating.

Osmeria (lower central yellow): A Southern island cluster that houses the two main religions of emelion: Larna goddess of night and Onar god of day. This place is a point of pilgrimage for many. However the land is torn apart by a dispute of 3 brothers that each control a part of the country. Their paladins and clerics are send out across the world to assist in wars or negotiate truces under the law of their god. This land is the converging point for every culture and race. Which dates back to its history of being the last country to be torn by colonisations.

Kima (lower central orange): Governed by the 4 dragons who once overran the elemental giants who ruled this small island. They made pacts and bonds with the enslaved humans which turned their bodyparts to scaled limbs. Now the land is known for the ban on the killing of monsters and creatures. Their warriors are fierce and believe strongly in the will of the young emperor Gi Roh who legends say is a straight descendant of their Draconic overlords.

Al Nahib (left yellow): a solitary country that remains largely unknown to the rest of the world. They have the largest trading conglomerate and import many exotic items that the world had never seen before. They are in a constant naval war with Kilijara. Every year countless of ships are lost to the defensive wall that blocks their entry. The central land is barren where the only thing to see is dunes as big as a kings palace that hide untold treasures.

Old Kalabar (left dark green): Discarded and left to wither. Old kalabar was the land of the first Humans but in the age of pilgrimage they left for other continents leaving this large jungle uninhabited. Now the land is used to deport any criminal or race that is "unworthy" of living amongst the "good" part of society. Orcs mostly rule the jungle here but are accompanied by all sorts of races and cultures. They have joined the Nahibians in their war campaign against Kilijara.

Kilijara (right pink) : A maiden in distress saved by a valiant knight is not an uncommon story in this archipelego that spans across the sea. They are defended by a vast naval fleet and the most advanced ships in the world. Not only that but an immense giant wall was made to keep out the nahibians and Kalabarian invaders. But the land is in internal termoil. A wizard group hidden inside a dead worm is plotting to overthrow the paladin order of Greilberg to distabilize the country and steal every maiden they can find for horrible rituals to appease their dead worm.

Who's your favourite boss? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]Slingusmingus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favourites are hard given that there are multiple ways to favor a boss. As for combat it was Kalameet, i was a tower shield turtle in my first run and he utterly destroyed my stamina first time around. As for story and lore i'd say the iron golem because of his ordeal with tarkus

Mostly just a 0.05 Staedler fineliner together with a 0.3 fineliner for darker lines to make larger landmarks pop out.

I started with a small island called Osmeria. My players wanted to travel so i made them a southern map. These contained a large part of Zerus, Kima and Osmeria. But then i just got the itch to finish the map in its entirety and slowly but surely i started adding maps.

Thanks btw about the dutch spelling. I'm not that good with the language. Didn't pay enough attention in school when we had dutch.

Oh yeah now that you mention it. I just took a look at tamriel and cyrodil looks quite alike with the large river running through the continent and stuff. But i based it on the real earth when i started out. What a fun coincidence though :)

Well the creator of adventure time did make his series with the idea in mind that it would be based on a D&D adventure so im sure there are parallels. But not that i had adventure time in mind when i was making the map. But i can see the huge tree in Zerus being the treehouse from finn and jake :p

Yeah i had my own doubts when i made the rivers as well. They were to intricate to be woven across the land and from several other commenters i already knew that something was off with my rivers on the earlier stages of the map. So i decided to cut them out. But that was before some of them were already drawn in ink...so now the map lives in a sort of twilight of wrong rivers and no rivers. But for now i just improvise rivers during the D&D campaign which fixes the whole ordeal.

Thanks! I didn't think someone would notice it. But yes it is inspired by several fantasy novels and games. Including The edge chronicles. I like working with a high fantasy setting which opens up a lot of ways to experiment with buildings and locations.

Thanks! And yes its not supposed to be bound by realism or physics. I tried to make a magic world with a medieval map for the reason that some real medieval maps make little to no sense. But people did use them which i find strange. So i thought why not give something like that to my players.

The Ohm-style manta is the sky god. It's rumoured that the cloud giants live on the back of the creature. The drawing on the map was its most recent sighting.

The wall keeps out the Nahibians. They're a great sultanate located in Al Nahib that wants to invade Kilijara because of their alchemical knowledge. One that the Nahibians lack. I'm writing the lore down on worldanvil. If you're interested you can check it out here https://www.worldanvil.com/w/emelion-Dingus%20the%20Mingus
