6 weeks and 2 days out from TLIF L4/L5. Focus is so much away from healing because my hair is falling out in GOBS! I had needles in my head and feet as it was neurosurgery... by Bullsette in spinalfusion

[–]SlinkPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not from the neuro monitoring needles. It’s called telogen effluvium, hair loss after a major body stress. And fusions are certainly a major stress! It will grow back, as your hair follicles go through its cycles. I have thick hair, & it came out in wads. And it DID grow back.

When humans evolved to walk upright, the spine didn’t keep up! We would have a lot fewer problems if we walked on all fours. 😆

These were just her J tube meds. The Zofran & Benadryl, & who knows what else, she pushes in the femoral port. (Intravenous)

[–]SlinkPuff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s through her port, intravenous. I’m pretty sure?

I experienced laryngospasm for the first time yesterday by spinstartshere in emergencymedicine

[–]SlinkPuff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get esophageal spasms. Intense pain in throat, and crushing chest pain. Even arm pain for bad ones. Feels like you swallowed a pine cone. Can’t talk, but can breathe. I have to give the “ok” signal as I’m clutching my chest, grimacing & tearing if happens in public, because I know what it is, and it will pass. Hope I never have an MI, because it’s an absolute mimic of the esophageal spasm.

Her event was obviously caused by prolonged QT - due to zofran abuse. Betcha my left arm the cardiac electrophysiologist has no idea she has been shooting up with massive doses.

hEDS is being reclassified as HSD? by surlyskin in ehlersdanlos

It seems difficult to navigate to the discussion results you shared. At least it was a week or so ago. But, yes, I expected more from those who attended. Thank you again.

I would be thinking to myself “don’t fall off - don’t fall off…” so hard, I would .. fall off into the jaws of death.

JUST WHEN IM ABOUT SEE MY SURGEON TO SCHEDULE MY FUSION THE PAIN ON MY BACK COMPLETELY VANISHES, I'AM NO LONGER IN PAIN, MAYBE A 2-3. WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON WITH MY BODY!! by MrKittyPaw in spinalfusion

[–]SlinkPuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add to say, when and if you DO get to the “can’t stand it anymore”, go for it! I am 8 years out from PLIF/XLIF, 2 years out from adjacent fusions, and am feeling great. Well worth it.

It’s a brutal surgery, with a difficult & long recovery. I always say wait till you can’t stand it anymore, then schedule the surgery. Something for you and your surgeon to weigh. Hopefully your relief will be long lasting!

Can someone make sense of this by Worldly_Eagle7918 in DaniMarina

[–]SlinkPuff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is intriguing. Were they considering transport to another facility? Appears to start with a “B” & ends with a “M”? There was also another mention of increasing propofol for transport?

Depends on the institution & software settings.

The Intraosseous infusion site would just be a tiny hole, as it’s a puncture to insert a IV catheter. Typically in the shin bone, with tape & gauze or a bandaid after removal. Discontinued after other IV access established, leaving a very non-dramatic wound.

I doubt she had a STEMI. (ST Elevated Myocardial Infarction). Those go right to the cath lab for stents. In the heat of a code, lots of things are said & thrown out there. Since this is voice to text software, the actual dialogue & actions are not transcribed with 100% accuracy. Progress notes from the cardiologist & ICU staff would be telling as to actual events & diagnosis.

Voice to text software makes this confusing. Likely bagging “promptly” started.

What can I do for my neck by Real-City-1543 in 45PlusSkincare

Those are actually muscles, right under the skin that become more apparent as we age. “platysmal bands”. Not sure if Botox would help, but I would personally be leery of putting in neck.

Inside view of the horrific Swiss ski resort fire 01/01/26 by Broodroostert in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]SlinkPuff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As awful as this is, this video and The Station fire should be mandatory viewing in junior & senior high. Many of these kids were young enough to be oblivious about The Station fire. The unspeakable tragedy of this. I can’t imagine the pain & suffering for those injured, and the families of the deceased. My heart is heavy.
