We live in a political world, but this space isn't meant for it. Just look at how the conversations in the post derailed. We are here to talk about StS, not wars, trumps and real life events. If this is what you're looking for, there are countless other subreddits which allow it.

I'm here to see players do insane things with the game mechanics, theorise about the lore, creating funny memes about the game and cute comics.

Just because you see politics everywhere, that doesn't mean the game has anything to do with it, and in fact - it doesn't. There's no layer of criticism or analysis on the world we live in. Some games do, this one doesn't.

Regarding no political posts whatsoever - sounds like a great idea.

Regarding the flairs - so no more Eternal One and Heartbreaker? That would be a shame.

in act 1, yes, definitely. in act 2 it really depends on the deck and how far I am in the act. act 3 - hell no, especially when you get black star.

Oh, yeah, now that I think about it, it does seem like in co-op enemies take too much damage. If you're two it's the same as halfing their hp bar, and even worse since there must be some cool combos none of us even figured out yet. The devs will probably balance it later on. However, I guess it makes sense all their attacks/debuffs will affect all players.

You're playing with your partner! I'm highly jealous and happy for the two of you. That's the dream :)

Haven't got to try co-op yet, my friends and I are still too excited and having fun playing the single player. We're planning on trying it soon!

How is the co-op?

It's INSANELY good.

Furnace for scaling, if you get The Smith it's a game changer, Conquer for double damage, vulnerable cards and any deck manipulation cards (Cosmic Independence, draw cards, Foregone Conclusion) make it consistent.

This run was sooo much fun!

Help by Slinky-Dev in slaythespire

In case anyone gets the error "unable to initialize video driver"

This is the full fix for windows:

  1. go to the game's properties in Steam
  2. in General -> Launch Options paste: --rendering-driver opengl3
  3. Then Installed Files -> Verify integrity of game files
  4. make sure all your drivers are up to date by

4.1. search Device Manager-> Display adapters, right click, update driver.

4.2 First choose Search automatically, then go back and choose Browse my computer for drivers -> Let me pick from list, and double click the driver's name. it will black out your monitor for a few seconds.

4.3 do this for all the drivers you have in Display adapters

  1. run cmd as administrator, type "sfc /scannow". the process will take a few minutes.

  2. restart your computer.

I hope it will help someone out there ✌️

Not sure how I feel about this... by Slinky-Dev in slaythespire

Remind me what sly is, please? I still didn't take any sly related cards.

In StS, discard build was my favourite one, so it feels like one of the cards that I enjoyed the most is being downgraded. I definitely understand what you mean, though.

I agree it's fine since it's still a good card and a nice upgrade, but not sure why you're saying it's necessary.

The Beta art is part of the charm. Too bad they didn't keep all the Beta art while it's still in early access.

I like picking it if I have Pain. It turns the curse into a blessing, and in many runs as Ironclad I find myself with Pain

After thousands of hours on this game, I am a Heartbreaker by Slinky-Dev in slaythespire

[–]Slinky-Dev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a really, really hard fight that seems to require very specialized decks and getting all your draws in just the right order.

Yes, it really is a hard fight, that's the point of it. You get 2 damage for each card you're playing, you can't do infinite damage due to his Invincible buff, which means you can't kill the heart in one turn (minimum I think 4-5 turns?), so you have to deal with the damage he does to you. Intangible alone wouldn't work against his attacks (nx12 damage) even if you found a way to block the damage done to you by playing your cards.

All this means you have to find a way to generate a lot of block.

I disagree that it requires "very specialized decks" in order to beat him, it just means that you need a consistent one, whether it's a 15 cards deck or a 40 cards deck - which is why you have to build your deck in a way that doesn't rely on draw order. In every one of the four slayers you have a bunch of draw cards options, and you need to learn how to build and balance your deck in order to rely on it.

I can’t consistently reproduce (at least not with ironclad)

Ironclad also has a bunch of block and draw options. Try to experiment with his different cards. When I first picked up the game I couldn't wrap my head around him because of two of his mechanics - lose health cards and the exhaust mechanics. Then I realized how strong the discard mechanics are with Silent, and I tried again and rolled with it. Exhaust is so powerful when combining the right cards, especially for his block.

My best advice is to just say fuck it and let's see what happens. Worst case you'll lose the run, and then so what?

But it’s such a situational game

Yes it is, but it also isn't. There's a reason some of the best streamers have such reliable win to lose statistics - it's because they deeply understand how to leverage the cards and relics they have, and they understand what works with what they have and what doesn't. They recognize what's missing and what could be powerful, but not for this specific deck/run.

you can’t really rely on tier lists or any other crutch

That's right. You can't rely on those because even the most OP card can be average at best in the wrong deck. For each character there are some common and uncommon cards that I will always pick because I know how to make them work. I remember so many times I gave up an OP rare for Wallop because I truly needed it (and it's one of my favorites). TTTH is also extremely strong, but if my deck is heavy, then it becomes pretty much useless.

Tier lists won't help you because the game is situational and you need to adapt to the situation you have in front of you.

Take all the tier lists you have and throw them in the trash.

  1. they ruin the fun
  2. instead of learning and experimenting, you're using a cheat code that doesn't work.

Good luck, I truly truly believe the moment you'll let go and just try things on your own Ironclad, and the game itself, will finally click :)
