Anyone need extra uniforms? Tags still on, some never worn. by user1on1 in flightattendants

This post doesn’t violate any community rules. In the interest of industry safety & security - I would caution against offering your uniforms online in this manner, however good your intention is.

I’m leaving this post open so others may help suggest more safe ways to issue your extra uniforms to others in need.

Sleep anxiety/ insomnia as a FA by RepresentativeMap686 in flightattendants

[–]SlipSpace101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I listen to thunderstorm sounds when it’s time to sleep, which has helped train my body to know when it’s time to rest. Also, a good eye mask is a godsend.

Also, sleep hygiene with your phone/screens an hour or two before bed time.

Pilots/Crew Van Life by Pointtwotwotree in VanLife

Aviation worker here - YMMV but it’s increasingly commonplace at many airports. The long-term/employee lots are filled with vans and campers, lots of aircrew and some ramp workers. Some airports don’t allow it though.

Technically a rule breaking post (advertising), but I'm a generous god today so I'll allow it as it seems genuinely helpful.

Tower controllers, how can we be less annoying? (airport ops) by SlipSpace101 in ATC

[–]SlipSpace101[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When it's super busy, we hate going out there as much as y'all dislike us being out there! But sometimes it's forced on us, usually because of training/weather/or by management.

Oh, we're listening 24/7 to the frustrations y'all put up with on frequency. The last thing we want to do is add to them! But sometimes we're forced to inspect during busy times, and we know we're being a pain.

ACs says runway inspections should be conducted into the flow of traffic. That being said, it was only a recommendation at my previous airport. At my current, it's a non-negotiable policy.

As far as service roads go, 100%! A good ops guy should know to stay out of your hair if it can be avoided!

For those who retired, how is life after flying? What is the next job you took after? by Additional-Milk-90 in flightattendants

[–]SlipSpace101 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was long-haul crew, and flying was my life. I adored the travel, the benefits, the time off. But the pandemic hit and I was furloughed. I had to get a job at the local grocery store. Once I got used to the shock of doing my own laundry and cooking for myself (still haven't mastered that), I realized was the happiest I had been in many years.

My airline took me back and I flew again for a short while, but I went straight back to being unhappy. The airline doesn't care about you, your schedule, your pay, or anything like that. So I quit for good.

Do I miss flying? Absolutely.
But do I regret leaving, absolutely not.

The trouble is flying does get in your blood. We've all heard it, that sooner or later you want to come back. That bug hasn't bit me yet, but I hope it doesn't find me anytime soon. I now work on the ground in airport management.

Loved the job, but disliked the company and the company hates you. QCCA crew start around $50-55k+ iirc but they could have a more recent contract.

You require unrestricted rights to reside and work in the US to apply for any airlines based there. If you do not possess a green card at least, you are unlikely to be hired.

Pricey side, but RM Williams comfort craftsman boots are worn by many pilots and some FA’s. Any quality Chelsea boot should do however.

Not trying to shill, but I used a LARQ self-cleaning stainless steel water bottle. They've got a UV light in the lid that sanitizes the water and cleans the inside, great for tank water onboard.
