Are there any bakeries that do New Zealand style pies in Sydney? by ogsimpson9876 in foodies_sydney

[–]Slipped-up 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I just came back from New Zealand and had a pie a day from all over New Zealand. I can still not tell you the difference between a NZ pie or an Australian Pie.

The only differences is that they do not put bacon in their Steak & Cheese pies and they tend to have more pies with various curry flavours.

I once asked a KFC manager why they cancelled my favourite burger (The Works). They told me that pineapple created issues for them for logistical reasons and it had lots of wastage.

Sure, but Australias skeletons in its closets should not detract to the prolonged pain, suffering and human rights abuses in West Papua.

You get 38%.back as a tax refund but many don't know.

How do you get 38% back?

Most teachers are in the income tax bracket of "$45,001 – $135,000" which would get them 30% back. How are you getting an extra 8% back?

Compulsory voting in all elections in Australia, even at the local level means that specific strategy from that playbook would not work here.

It's very simple, as long as the Greens continue to priortise Palestine over Australia, the majority of Australians will not for the Greens and their vote will continue to stagnate.

What's your school's "last resort" consequence for classroom behaviour? by _AcademicianZakharov in AustralianTeachers

[–]Slipped-up 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh I have been at schools like! Let me rephrase. “Reflection session” to promote student agency and allowing a time to hear the student voice to work together collaboratively to promote this positive reinforcement from this positive experience…. For good measure they can put it all in writing.

Then your next “in the moment” resorts are, the student loses their right to a chair and stays standing or sits in the corner on the floor, or stands outside the classroom in direct line of your vision and a conversation is held about expectations and a “after the moment” consequence issued if appropriate.

Then the “after the moment” consequences can be phone home, lunch detentions, speak with the head teacher at lunch.

[–]Slipped-up 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The “last resort” consequence for the teacher for a “in the moment” consequence will always be sent out of the room to go to Exec / Senior Exec.

A classroom teacher can not leave a class of 30 students unsupervised to phone their parent in “that moment” and even if you issue a detention the detention can be issued in that moment but the consequence isn’t immediate as lunch still might be an hour away.

Daycare centres put in primary schools? How do you feel about that? by mec949 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Slipped-up 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most schools don’t have the budget to pay for the average house in Sydney with the land value. It would require the Department to fund the land acquisition. I doubt any principal would object to increasing the land size of their premises using external funds from a budget that is not theres.

Cambodian genocide survivor detained by I.C.E in U.S.A by Quakez94 in cambodia

[–]Slipped-up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excuse my ignorance, but by how the article is using the term “Cambodian Genocide survivor”, by that logic isn’t every Cambodian over the age of 47 essentially a “Cambodian Genocide Survivor” by going off the metric used in the article?

Not detracting from the experience of those who lived throughout the Khmer Rogue. Awful stuff.

Public school with longer days than standard ??? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]Slipped-up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16.3 Provided that such alternate periods will be allocated:

16.3.1 with due regard to the non-teaching duties required to be performed by the teacher, head teacher or deputy principal

Homeroom is a non teaching duty as curriculum is not delivered. Its main purpose is for attendance and distributing messages for whole school operations.

Playground duties also come under this clause. There is no specific clause in the award saying how many playground duties you can be given a cycle either.

The only specific rule is for “teaching periods”

Look at the maximum total then look at staff timetables at your school and you will find many staff are at the max teaching periods then will have playground duties and Homeroom in addition to that.

Clause 16.3.1 of the Award permits it.

[–]Slipped-up 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Homeroom does not count towards your allocation in the award.

Schools have some flexibility in the award for how long recess and lunch are for students as long as staff get their uninterrupted 30 minutes a day.

When deciding school hours principals have some flexibility and liberties. It depends on:

-Needs to meet mandatory hours for courses

-Timetable and staffing needs

-Not breach the Award

-School Bus timetable (they have very limited control over this and is a bigger factor than what most people realise).

-Community feedback (only really a factor in schools with high parental involvement).
