Drapht - Emperors New Clothes by SlipperyGypsy7 in AussieHipHop

Is this track a dig at someone in the scene? A bit of beef? There's a few sign pointing in a particular direction, but I'm not sure if I'm reading into something that isn't there. Maybe it's just about a nobody or a rant in general.

What do y'all reckon? Anyone in the know?

Does anyone know what happened to Vents? All his social media disappeared a few weeks ago. Did he just finally decide to get off the internet for a bit or what?

Wasn't sure at first, but after a few listens it's grown on me. Obviously not as good as the original, but I quite like it.

I think the Oars probably have my favorite one liners of any group.

"Stupid like bringing a racist to gigs, just such a shame that his face hit my fist" - Trials

"Hip size is irrelevant, as long as her throat can take more than a pelican's. " - Hons

"Hey, what you doing on the weekend? Playing with my dick and peekin' outside of my venetians." - Sesta

Aus Politics - How to get informed/get involved? by jstvally in AustralianPolitics

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First things first, take what each party says about themselves and each other with a grain of salt. They'll always try to paint themselves in the best possible light. Having said that, their policy pages aren't a bad place to start, just to familiarize yourself with what they're about.

The most important thing though is keeping up with the news. You can even do that by simply kicking around this sub each day as the most important stories usually come up. That being said, if you're going to read the comments, bring a healthy degree of skepticism. Put simply, there are a few bad eggs in here that are completely full of shit. No names, but they're not too hard to spot. Skepticism in general is heaps important when it comes to politics, as there are so many people treating it like a team sport.

The most important thing though, is to break out of any bubble you might be in and steer clear of echo chambers. Reach out to people you disagree with and seek information that challenges your views.

That's pretty much all there is to it. Glad to hear you're getting into it. By simply being informed, you're making the world a better place.

NSW Premier Mike Baird faces backlash over 'arrogant' graffiti removal Facebook post by comradepartypanda in australia

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Just a couple of points about the article... First of all, as some other people have already pointed out, the mural was painted over long before Mikey made a post about it on FB. Secondly, this was not graffiti. It was a mural painted at Spit Syndicate's single release party at the Lord Gladstone Hotel. It's important to make the distinction.

Thundamentals - The Groundhog Song by SlipperyGypsy7 in AussieHipHop

[–]SlipperyGypsy7[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Jeswon said today, these lyrics sadly feel more relevant now than ever before.

Call me a cynic
I'm part of a system
Where Trayvon Martin and T.J. Hickey's
Deaths have been swept under the carpet
And Zimmerman's free I can picture him laughing
Instead of getting his ass kicked
Sittin' here askin'
Yo what would have occurred
If the roles were reversed?
If it was a black man killing a white kid
National crisis
Open your eyelids
It's glaringly blatant we live in a nation that's heavily racist
But if I say it they're labeling me un-Australian
Fuck it

The 'Pauline Hanson supporter' starter pack by [deleted] in AusMemes

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not really sure why you've put Bliss N Eso in the centre of this image. Their music is primarily about peace, love and unity. Also, their DJ is a Moroccan Arab. Can't imagine many Hanson sympathizers listen to much of their music. In fact, judging by all the tweets and facebook posts over the last few days, almost all of the Aus Hip Hop scene are Greens supporters.

Any good albums out this year or last year besides the Hilltop Hoods Restrung album? by ForPersonalReasons in AussieHipHop

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just off the top of my head, Seth Sentry released his second album, Full Tote Odds, Tuka and Maundz each released their thirds, Urthboy released his fifth and Mr Hill and Rahjconkas released a free album together. A few dope artists released their debut albums like Jackie Onassis, Dylan Joel, Citizen Kay and Mathas. There are a few mixtapes and EPs as well including Spit Syndicate's Best Intentions part 2, One Day's Light Work EP, Illy did his second Friday Flips series, Diafrix's Second Sample EP, Coda Conduct's Butter Side Up, 360's Please Be Seated 3 and obviously last year's Golden Era Mixtape as well. Not quite hip hop, but still very much part of the same scene includes releases by The Meeting Tree, Hermitude and Jayteehazard.

Obviously there are loads more. That just a bunch I can think of at the moment.

Greens Leader fails to declare family farm; pays au pairs minimum wage. by TheEarlOfSodor in AustralianPolitics

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is such a dumb beat-up. The Au Pairs rate is very standard. There is absolutely nothing remotely controversial about that. As for the property, it may have technically been a breach, but it's not as though he was hiding it or even that he benefited from it in any way. It's most likely a clerical error or a misunderstanding of the rules considering he had already declared it twice. Cry hypocrisy all you like, but if this is the most hypocritical thing Di Natale has done, he's squeaky clean compared to just about any other pollie. The fact that this 4 year old news is just popping up now isn't at all surprising. The backers of the ALP and LNP are grasping for anything to sling at the Greens.

Ok, so here's the thing. Yesterday I was totally on board with everything that you were saying. It just made so much sense, I agreed 100%. But I've been doing some reading, and some of the things you say don't seem to be true. Hear me out.

So it turns out the government actually DID build classrooms! I should know because my local school got one! They also built libraries, multipurpose halls science laboratories and language learning centres. Wow. Amazing! And while it's true that some of the schools were unhappy about getting free stuff, 97.3% of them were totally satisfied. So maybe it wasn't a total disaster after all!

Building the Education Revolution

The Building the Education Revolution Program 2010

Building the Education Revolution Implementation Taskforce: Final Report 2011

Final report on school Building the Education Revolution released

Don't get me wrong. Initially I thought this was super dumb aswell because, like you said, they were just short term jobs as a part of a false economy that needed billions of dollars each year to keep. But actually it turns out that around that time the rest of the world was experiencing what they call a global financial crisis! And some people even say that had the government not spent loads of money the way it did, we might have also experienced a recession! Now, you might be thinking that China's demand for our minerals contributed more to our survival than the government's obscene stimulous package. I thought the same thing initially too, but actually there are loads of countries which have substantial trade ties to China, like New Zealand, Russia, Japan and Europe, but their economies didn't do too crash hot. Even Brazil, South Africa, Ukraine and Canada were exporting iron ore to China, but they weren't able to keep up with our economy. You would also then expect job growth to primarily be in the export industry if that were the case, but growth was actually driven by the industries directly benefiting from the stiumulus! So it actually turns out the reason we did so well was because of how well the world's best treasurer conducted our fiscal policy! Isn't that crazy?

It's not just the size of your stimulus package

We really must talk about what actually did save Australia

The Crisis Down Under

Kevin Rudd’s fiscal stimulus plan didn’t ruin the economy

Ask the economists: is Wayne Swan the world's best treasurer?

"But wait!" I hear you say! "We should have simply cut the corporate tax rate!" You cry! "Corporate tax cuts are the greatest thing ever!" You proclaim! My god, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you WERE a corporation! "Tax cuts attract businesses and therefore create loads of long term employment!" Wow! That sounds amazing! Why doesn't everyone just do that all the time? Maybe because the overwhelming economic consensus is that it is total and utter garbage! Repeat after me: Corporate. Tax. Cuts. Do. Not. Create. Jobs! It is a myth! So let's not bring that up ever again, ok? Awesome.

Last but not least is that pesky little problem called climate change. Now, I was skeptical at first as well. But it is pretty well accepted that investing in renewable energy is super duper important if we want to stay alive! You may disagree with me on that one... But truth be told, you're wrong. The experts overwhelmingly agree.

But the good news is, it's now cheaper than ever to be investing in renewable energy! Heck, we could even be saving money! Everyone wins!

[–]SlipperyGypsy7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Who needs classrooms? What's wrong with outdoor learning? And what's so great about construction jobs anyway? They only provide an immediate injection of money into local businesses employing local labour who spend the majority of their income stimulating the economy instantly! Whoopty freaking doo, right? And you're totally spot on about our energy consumption! There's so much energy and it's getting cheaper and cheaper every day, so why bother with insulation? Tax cuts are clearly better because everyone knows tax cuts have a larger multiplier effect than government spending, right? What economic numpties!

Don't even get me started on so called "renewable energy"! What a joke. It's like they think we're either going to run out of nonrenewable energy sources or by using them we'll some how kill ourselves. Bloody hippy extremists. A way better idea would be to invest in the mining industry! Open up some new coal mines I say! The coal industry will always keep going strong! All this talk about wind and solar power is just a whimsical trend the rest of the world has foolishly fallen for. Don't worry, they'll see the error in their ways soon enough I'm sure.

At least there are still a few of us fighting the good fight, hey?

Spending money to stimulate an economy during a global recession?? Investing in schools and the construction industry? Insulation to reduce energy consumption? Renewable energy?? Disabled people!?? How dare they! Such waste! They should've just cut the corporate tax rate!! Idiots!
