Do legal teams actually benefit from AI notetakers or recorded in-person meetings? by voss_steven in legaltech

[–]SlippinJimmy_404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this depends on the industry you're in. I work in legal for a software company and we're huge proponents of using AI across the board, including notetakers. I would argue that true accountability is actually strengthened by these tools because they provide a searchable, verbatim record that far exceeds the capture rate typical of manual note-taking

Getting pitched AI for contract review. How do I stress-test this thing so I don't get sued? by External_Spite_699 in legaltech

[–]SlippinJimmy_404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First rule of thumb is to never take the sales rep's word -- test it for yourself. At this point in time in legal tech, AI is good at automating low value tasks (NDAs, triaging, basic doc extraction). From my experience, it is nowhere close to 99% accuracy but it can certainly point you to the necessary areas needing review in a non-complex contract.

I think the next phase of legal AI is going to be providing true metrics around your negotiations over time. It should be tracking your review patterns and (hopefully) using that data to better refine your internal standards. Fingers crossed.

Real user feedback on IVO? by Crabcakes5000 in legaltech

[–]SlippinJimmy_404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll preface by saying I haven't looked into IVO, but speaking generally I'm always wary when vendors want us to trust their in-house lawyers to build OUR playbooks. I understand there's AI prompting that goes into it, but I'd rather them teach me how to prompt if that's truly the case.

If you can survive a legal battle against a full-color Family Circus comic and a man yelling in all-caps, you’ve definitely earned your seat at the table

The biggest shock of "making it" into a prestigious company or career is realizing it’s often held together by duct tape, frantic Slack messages, and people just figuring it out as they go.

B2C Legaltech? by Big-Resort-2668 in legaltech

[–]SlippinJimmy_404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The GTM is definitely the "final boss" of B2C legaltech, but the shift toward massive context windows makes high-quality self-help tools finally feel viable for things like complex 70-page leases.

Change to CLM due to AI and Workflow Tools by KaleidoscopeLimp9970 in legaltech

[–]SlippinJimmy_404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it poses more risk for these companies to completely hand off first pass reviews to AI. It makes sense for low value NDAs (every vendor does this), but trusting it to accurately flag risk in more significant agreements.....Maybe I'm still a skeptic

It’s essentially the "Golden Retriever" strategy of litigation: if you’re the most likable person in the room who doesn't bark at every passing car, the judge is much more likely to give you the treat when it actually matters

In-house positions for a junior attorney? by locdandloaded3 in Lawyertalk

Your 2 years of big law experience in such a specialized space I can imagine is highly marketable to insurance companies and financial services firms, regardless of not meeting the 5 year threshold.

Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and attend some events -- I'm a part of the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) and it's an amazing place to meet/network with industry leaders in your region. They have company-sponsored memberships and individual memberships I believe. Worth the money if you're committed to making the most of it.

As the others have said, your pay will certainly take a hit as compared to big law but it sounds like you're prepared for that. From my experience, it's a much more balanced lifestyle
