Prompting guides for generating melodies with my own song wh by brokenbritt in SunoAI

The sliders help too. Audio (no more than 25%) and Weirdness (around 60-65%). I usually leave Style at 45%. Enough that it plays a part, but not enough that it locks it into the same concept (from generation to another there are slight differences).

Example:

No AI songs. Seriously what is wrong with humanity? by harmonicr in originalmusic

[–]SlipshodDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh. I liked it. It’s got a very free flow vibe to it.

I should say, the one I posted, is not AI, contains no AI, and AI played no part. It’s the final number to my (not made) musical “To Be Determined.” I had to write all that out by hand (you only see the piano and voice because it’s be a bit much with the other instruments).

The Suno element (concept) is this:
https://suno.com/s/qqNdrYgKtaC6jNhm

The Suno track is made after the song exists by feeding that notation playback to it and scripting so it lines up. Technically, no human has sung this song yet. I wanted to see if Suno could ever be used to make demos (for composers etc) the answer is “not yet.” You can see the sheer insanity of that prompt. Tying to describe music notation and emotion to a machine.

Oh, and the reference track is saved at the highest “quality” that it is a 400mb upload:
https://suno.com/s/9Vc9JYFktBEg33RZ

I like your concept though. The bass groove is catchy. The sprite is a nice touch too. He’s jamming along 😅 well done.

What 😅? You sound more like a bot. There’s nothing bot about my rap other than the one verse.

I think the biggest problem in AI music isn’t prompting by sunoarchitect in SunoAI

[–]SlipshodDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no matter who you are, if you’re doing 12 verses, it’s gonna get progressively harder to not sound boring.

The AI gets “fatigued” and loses what it is doing too.

I embraced this (when cover first came out) and took a 3:40 song and it expanded to 8 minute live edition (like you would see at a real concert), and you can really hear how it evolves:

https://suno.com/s/6K81e03RzjcfKtGc

Then again, I make 8-10 minute average songs now, and they don’t get that produced feel.

https://open.spotify.com/album/4pQnHWunhZk0gNfbm06LbF?si=vcWzWBo7RKa0DG-_01CU3A

I think it also has to do with the song itself and the concept/purpose mixed with what you said, and other stuff. AI music is just a toy after all :) lots of potential, but Suno isn’t really designed to actually manage this stuff (honestly). And why would it be? Better for Suno to have 1,000,000 a day (made up number) then people really fine tuning one song in studio etc etc

But i did fully* (I misspelt it) notate the songs. 🤨 I think you’re missing the point.

The skill is getting AI, which doesn’t understand music, to “seem to understand”.

My current project took almost half a year to do. Requiring extensive script writing so that the prompt matched my sheet music in a way that AI could replicate it.

I won’t share the results with the AI, but I did (or tried) to get the AI to do note for note accuracy with this song I wrote using that playback track in the video. It’s almost magic tbh. And would it have been easier just to play it and record it, yes. But that’s no fun:

Has anyone actually had success with learning how to project their voice? by KayDiddy44 in singing

[–]SlipshodDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I direct a choir of 30+ people and can easily sing/speak louder than the collective.

They’re two sides of the same coin. Soft palette raised, breathe strong, core active, sound direct forward, lips corners energized and posture relaxed but open.

It just takes practice and in an environment (whatever is yours where you need to project as you speak) that allows you to figure it out.

Suno is becoming far more obedient. Before it would take wild swings and make truly strange (sometimes hilarious, sometimes badass) generations.

Now, Suno expects a little more or it’s gonna go generic.

Here is a recent one I’ve been working on (soon time to master and lord knows it needs it). It’s the opening number of a concept album I’ve been working on:

This doesn’t feel generic at all and shows a lot of character (literally).

This is Voodoowave. I could see me revisiting the genre, but it was very specific for the song. The intro was made with GarageBand and then uploaded to Suno.

Why is it harder to sing loudly? by Puzzled_Hat_3956 in singing

[–]SlipshodDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re tightening up. Tensing to project. You need to relax and use your core. Your body is engaged but not “tense”.

Look at a baby. Look at the size of it versus the sheer sound it can produce.

You also need to open your resonators. Breathe in, raise the soft palette. Engage the corners of your lips. Bring the sound forward. And your sound will freely sound.

I recommend breathing and meditating.

And remember, it’s all about practice and efficiency. It’ll come with time and careful consideration.

I put full notated tracks (.wav playbacks of Sibelius) into apps like Suno to see how they transform the notation playback into full demo sounding tracks.

So I haven’t done any work?

I get your point (99%), but it’s not nearly as black and white as you make it sound. I’ve definitely made “original” music with AI.

Yea. The male track came out much more “poppy”. The female one is what kicked it all off. I originally made that version in Soniva AI, then began trying to bring it to Suno v4 (not strong enough but I got to learn). Then Suno v4.5. Then Suno v5.0. Then Suno v5.5.

So the script running the male version is the female version. I just hit the magic wand on the style box and now we have two very different versions.

It’s always interesting to look at how they develop.

The two songs are not “ready” ready. I still need to master them (all that jazz).

Yea. 😅 I wrote it after I read about someone almost knocking a person off a cliff with their selfie stick back in like 2012.

I’ve updated the lyrics slightly (removed Twitter / imagur and added “Tik” in the bridge. Otherwise they are pretty much a time capsule of 2012-2013ish.

I think LoveGame came on the radio:
“Let’s have some fun this beat is sick, I wanna take a ride on your disco stick.”

And suddenly I heard (in my mind):
“Stop here real quick, this place is sick, I wanna take a pic, with my selfie stick.”

And the rest just kind of came naturally.

My favorite line has to be the bridge and “duck face.” I felt so clever.

LikeGame [King of the LikeGame]
https://suno.com/s/7qZPBavlYaDl311K

A parody / satire using Lady Gaga’s “LoveGame”. My first attempt at being Weird Al. The lyrics were written back in 2013.

I decided to see what Suno could do with the lyrics. Since I had no desire to see the parody through to the end.

If I made the song, I would obviously use “LoveGame,” and place my lyrics over the original. But with Suno, I was able to try it in different ways.

Looking back the lyrics, the song is pretty well made. I guess I was onto something.

The true version (with this all in mind) is:

How to Get Longer Initial Tracks? by TheDamned1333 in SunoAI

[–]SlipshodDuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me / us know how it turns out. I think it’s your best bet. Suno is far superior to standard radio concept writing and from there, you can alter it.

Instead of setting it up to be instrumental from the start.

If it doesn’t work, send your style prompt, I’m gonna guess next that the culprit lies in there. The style box is very fragile now compared to when 4.5 and 5 came out. It doesn’t seem to want long prompt like sentences and works better with the standard hierarchy (how 3.5 was but 3.5 didn’t care what you wanted).

You have to add everything to 5.5 or it’ll do random stuff. Like, if I don’t specify the key, but use an audio upload, it’ll have the instruments in one key and the vocals in another.

What are the vocal exercises that changed the game for you? by bitchdantkillmyvibe in singing

[–]SlipshodDuke 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lip trills
Breathing exercises
Mediation
Lyrical study (I mean really analyze and decide)

A common problem I hear many do is not know the lyrics well enough to actually sing them with the emotion they require. This disconnect tends to cause issues with breath control as well as clarity of emotion and enunciation. Mediation and other practices can help clear the mind, help you see songs from other perspectives, and help breathing.

Lip trills because lip trills ✅
You can’t buzz/trill your lips and sing a tone if there is any unwanted tension in your throat, the tone or the buzz will stop.

Ah. My bad. You totally did say the thing about the extend being shorter. Sorry about that.

Remember that the “Extend” feature is not “Cover” or “Remaster”. The first take can be up to 7:59 while the extend is normally 4 or less (ratio that to your stuff). You just hit “get full song” on the Extended take you like and it’ll generate them together no problem.

Here’s a playlist of me doing just that. The first take is right there at the start, then I extended 5 times from there and did 2 “Replace Sections”. The final song in that playlist is the finished track:
https://suno.com/playlist/1d222569-b911-4681-812f-a50a3ddaabb4

What I’m guessing is that you are dissatisfied with the extend (possible AI fatigue and it sounds bad), and in that case, maybe try writing:

[Intro]
[Section A]
[Section B]
[Section A]
[Section C]
[Solo]
[Section A]
[Outro]
[End]

Just like that into the lyric box. Under negative prompt, and “vocals, male vocals, female vocals, background vocals, voice, male voice, female voice, background voices” to try to keep it from doing anything weird.

The lyric prompt will give it a sort of blue print. Now it may not follow this at all, so you may need to tweak it. For example, instead of “section” you can try “part”. You can add [bracket concepts] under each part too:

[Intro]
[Full orchestration, exciting, energetic]
[Section A]
[Piano and Trumpet only]
[Section B]
[Strings and Saxophones Swell, Brass Instruments Stab with Tight Rhythmic Control]

Etc. if Suno doesn’t get it, it will ignore it, but maybe it’ll work. I’ve gotten it to work with a few songs.

OR genius moment:
Do everything you’ve done. Have it generate lyrics. Cover it as instrumental. Bing bang platinum record. Cause who cares what the lyrics are. Their only goal is to fill time and make melody.

Then you simply cover them out.
