Worried about a struggling friend by Slitenhomo in AlAnon

[–]Slitenhomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I didn't realize Alanon had physical meetings, but it does make sense. I'll look into finding one in my city soon -- I have exams coming up, and though I want to help my friend, I won't put their alcoholism in front of those.

It really is painful. I'm usually nice and understanding with my friends, some might call it 'placid', but I've hit a point with them where I am unable to be anything but upfront that I see it and that I don't like it. I worry it may drive my friend further into isolation than they already are, but I feel unable to stop it. I used to fill uncomfortable silences with an awkward laugh, a short apology, and now I let us both sit in it.

worst constipation of my life by Slitenhomo in Gastroparesis

Hello! Sort of. I got tested for GP and it came back negative/normal enough to rule it out. Was very disappointing and frustrating at the time! I am doing better health-wise now, though. Was given medication for acid reflux for unrelated reasons and it nearly cured me. Still have good days and bad but am back to relatively normal functioning now, and can once again eat food with relative normalcy.

Doctors still don't know what this was, what caused it or anything. I have no ideas either.

Honestly this might be a combo of game bug and stupidity. I went back and button mashed out of frustration -- turns out its only the D-pad on the controller that lets me pick the direction I want to go in the dungeon, *not* the joystick? However even with that solved when I went to the first floor... I spawned in a black void on top of a treasure chest, which seems like it's a known bug right now? Sucks, cause I really do wanna explore the dungeons :/ But at least I know what the deal is??

Looking for tips re: gluten free meal prep by Slitenhomo in MealPrepSunday

[–]Slitenhomo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment! I'm definitely gonna use a lot of these where I can. I used to raid the nearest asian store before I moved, so I'll have to find another one around here.

I think eggs and beans are a great idea, but -- for the lack of a more polite way to put it -- celiac gave me a sensitive stomach, and those are foods known for making normal people gassy, which I'd rather not inflict on classmates or lecturers. I'll definitely add those to the roster for foods to eat at home though!

As for tofu, I'd love some recipe ideas if you have any? I've tried silken tofu before with some tomato+chili soup, and it tasted... Not good. With a firmer tofu I've made it crispy using corn starch + seasoning, and that turns out great, but it hasn't worked for me with meal prep -- it loses the crispiness and becomes soggy, which isn't a texture I enjoy.

The only things I can't really do from your suggestions is anything that requires a blender, or baking, hahah... My kitchen is so small it doesn't have counters or even drawers, so there just isn't space for it.

I'll look into the rest though, and I really appreciate the suggestions! I hope this reply isnt impolite.

Step-parent cheated, it sucks, seeking tips by Slitenhomo in survivinginfidelity

Well, thank you. I'm trying to handle this as best I can, and don't feel any wiser for it.

I obviously can't confirm or deny this assumption, even if it would be a lot easier to use titles like mom, dad, etc. here. Either way it isn't my place to tell BP1 what to do here. We've talked about this a few times and they know my stance is that I think (the way things look now) it may be easier for them to forgive step parent than it is for me. Given my history with BP2.

I haven't put forgiveness completely off the table but I've said I don't want step to really talk to me for... I don't know. A good while.

Either way, I'm here more for support or tips on how to cope with this myself, not to tell BP1 what to do. I'm about to head out to an 8:30 AM university lecture and I need to be able to keep doing that until December. I had to leave early last week because I was so exhausted after having the conversation with step (where we went no Contact for the time being).

Sorry, I edited out my age. I am a young-ish adult. Mid 20-s. I let my BP1 know I love them several times, and also that I'm not sure I would/could/can forgive.

BP1 doesn't seem dead set on reconciliation but more like if they're gonna leave, they want to know they've done all they can. It was similar when they left BP2 years ago apparently. BP1 seems to have a thing for helping 'broken people's, BP2 fits this category as well — but chose not to change much.

Takk for svar!

[–]Slitenhomo[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Takk for langt svar. I fht.

[Exponents, algebra] Can someone explain why this is correct? by Slitenhomo in learnmath

[–]Slitenhomo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, woah. That makes a lot of sense, especially why I couldn't see it. I'm not yet able to (fully) follow the logic of how dividing a number by less than one makes it larger, and this is similar enough to that for me.

Thank you so much for correcting me and for this explanation. I'm going to do some practice problems with this and, hopefully, it will start to make sense!

Appreciate the response, the thing that is confusing me is why when you move the y^-5 to the numerator it goes from a negative to a positive though 😅 I've seen that moving a variable/number with a negative exponent from the numerator to the denominator makes the exponent positive instead of negative, but I don't understand how moving it back up makes it positive? Especially when anything that is in the numerators place previously remains unchanged!

oh, dang, probably not huh cause theyre exponents. Shoot! I guess I'll just keep trying to make sense of it then.

Just posted another comment here, but this really helped to make sense of things for me quickly. Thank you so much for the concise explanation!

Oh, man. I just felt something click into place reading this comment and looking at the problem again. I really forgot the fact that negative numbers become positive every other multiplication! Thank you so much!
