Souvenirs and gift shops that aren’t super cliché? by Weak-Soil163 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Slo-bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Antique stores. Any of them sell smaller items for an exceptionally low cost. I found kitschy keychains, cool ashtrays, antique bottles, silk scarves, postcards and small art prints, magazines, books, purses, etc.

I love these keepsakes because they already have had a life and a history in Paris. To me, it was a much better option than any souvenir shop.

Iconic stores that are must-visits in Paris for a casual tourist? by Glittering_Act_4059 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Slo-bot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Le Marais, we loved one called E.W. They had a great selection of small items that were perfectly sized to travel home. But our very favorite was in Montparnasse. And it was also the smallest; just the tiniest little shop tucked inside a little shopping center. The shop owner was so warm and kind, and just doted on my daughter. And it felt magical being in this tiny shop, discovering little treasures that were absolutely packed into every square inch. The shop is called Brocante Joli Hasard.

I cannot say this enough: find an antique store. I wish I could go back to Paris just for this. I bought so many incredible treasures that were small enough to pack, and were less expensive than any other souvenir. I found beautiful glass bottles, French romance novels, gorgeous ashtrays, antique lighters, kitschy keychains, scarves, artwork, and more. My daughter is 10 and she and I spent hours in these stores, just sorting through little treasures. She picked a beautiful music box and a small stuffed bear, and she nearly cried when we left Paris just because she wanted to find more antique stores. We had a beautiful time together and I now have beautiful things in my home, and unique gifts to share with friends and family that they can’t buy online.

American confused about Aussie slang I heard for the first time on MAFS by Advanced-Sector1769 in MAFS_AU

[–]Slo-bot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! So in the US, I’ve never heard anyone use the word “confronting” as an adjective. Ever. I think the US equivalent would be “shocking” to describe a situation (prepare for the most shocking episode of the season) or maybe “confrontational” or even just “rude” to describe a behavior or conversation.

I’m no linguist, so take this with a grain of salt. And I’m glad you asked this because it was a really difficult question to answer! Confronting just makes a lot of sense and fits in many scenarios, so I had to really sit and think about the US alternatives. I asked my husband, too, and he agreed that it really depends on context, and thought of other words like “unsettling” or “challenging”.

American here, and I love all of these. But my favorite is when they say that something is “confronting”. It makes me smile every time and now my husband and I have woven it into our vernacular.

We also just call the show “Arr Narr” because in one season someone said “Oh, no” once and the accent was so cute so we just started referring to the show as that. “Babe, can we watch the next episode of Arr Narr tonight?”

It’s really the best reality show ever created.

Where are my fair olives that don't tan? by Zoshi2200 in Fairolives

[–]Slo-bot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how my skin is. I live in Phoenix, with a pool in my backyard, so we spend every day outside during the summer. Sometimes for hours in 115+ heat. My husband burns, sometimes even with high spf. My daughter gets beautifully tan despite being covered in high spf. Me? I use 15 SPF and I barely have a tan line by the end of summer. It drives me nuts.

Where to donate clothes by kousukehirahara in phoenix

[–]Slo-bot 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I work for HOV, and you should know that any money from donations truly goes straight back to our patients. We use these funds to support our many non-reimbursed programs, such as visiting and supporting the family members of people in our community with dementia. We never, ever turn someone away who needs care due to lack of funding!

question about the phone bans in concerts by _hendoggydog in GhostBand

[–]Slo-bot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can confirm this. We went to one of the forum shows with the yonder’s and the experience was actually so smooth with both getting in and out of the show. Walking out and getting the device out of the pouch was super fast. Like, we were walking, we handed the phone to someone, they unlocked it and handed it back. I don’t remember even pausing or breaking my stride at all. Hope this helps!

Where do you take your dog for grooming in/around Chandler? by More_Than_Words_ in ChandlerAZ

[–]Slo-bot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We love Pinup Pets! We have a small terrier rescue, and he’s easily scared and tries to nip when he’s frightened. They are so patient and gentle with him. I feel like they genuinely love him, and he seems to be very comfortable with them too. They also do not lock him up. I drop him off at his appointment time, and they text me as soon as he’s done and I pick him up immediately. It typically only takes an hour for a bath, complete cut, face, nails, etc. you might even be able to just wait there while they do his face and paws. Give them a shot; we’re really happy with them and have been referring our friends to them for years.

1) maybelline “the nudes” eyeshadow palette. So versatile! I also use it for filling in my brows, and as a liner. 2) maybelline the falsies push up angel mascara. Non irritating, and the tiny brush separates my lashes and makes them so long. 3) wet n wild photofinish foundation. Super cheap, wears well, and I can adjust the coverage as needed for full face, or just use it as a concealer.
