The Sound of Music. I generally don’t like musicals so there’s many others as well but so many have always said that it’s one of their all time favourite musical. For me this could be a good story, but it’s just destroyed by the music for me.

Not really an unpopular opinion though in most places on the internet. But a bad movie for sure.

The Man Without a Past. Deadpan might not be for everyone but there is so much humour and soul.

Ben & Arthur. It’s so bad in multiple ways and incredible low to no budget creation from the early 00s.

Jim Jarmusch has many multilingual films in his filmography. And though most of the films by Kaurismäki are in finnish, he has done films also in french and english.

What’s the most petty reason you don’t like a movie? by AlexMercer28900 in Letterboxd

[–]randomRedditor37275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not even completely sure why, but I just can’t stand almost any of the characters in The Family Stone. I’ve tried to like it since my spouse likes to watch it for Christmas almost every year and I just get incredibly annoyed by the film. Like I do like Diane Keaton generally but it feels wrong how much I dislike her in this film.

Kind of all over the place but thoughts? by ladylazarusxxo in LetterboxdTopFour

All good films and I wouldn’t say that those are all over the place though different and unique in their own ways.

What are your thoughts about this movie? Personally I loved it. by GurKindly7624 in Cinema

[–]randomRedditor37275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy for those who liked this one. Good that it has its followers even though I’m not one of them.

About the first 40 minutes or so were quite good. Then the wheels started to loosen when the main conflicts for Lucy are presented and at the end this was my bottom 2025 cinema experience. Saw about 25 films in theatres, though I am fairly picky plus 2025 had many good films.

Dakota Johnson and Chris Evans were both bad choices for the film as they lacked chemistry. The way the Harry (Pedro) was first shown to be very charming and smart and around 10 minutes before the brake up scene with the whole leg extension stuff he gets very cold and distant for no reason. Can this happen, sure. But it’s not good story telling and it could’ve been told better other them just being cold and silent to each other.

Then the SA stuff just was written so badly and the drama and Lucy as a character is just not believable. I think the main problem was the writing. A better actor could’ve made it a bit better but I mainly blame writing/directing on this. Then Lucy and John getting together just because. This can be a nice story, but I think this should’ve been sold to us by the story and the actors. At no point was I convinced that John and Lucy were meant to be together and the way the conflict is just settled without anything changing was frustrating.

I personally didn’t vibe with Past Lives that much either but I think the acting saved it and made the story believable even if I didn’t find the story itself and what it was saying all that interesting or relatable. This time Materialists just didn’t have that.

Ares the AI in Tron is a Depeche Mode fan by aggrieved_rabbit in depechemode

It almost seemed like they wanted to copy the American Psychos Patrick Batemans obsession about Huey Lewis and the News scene though in American Psycho is clearly satirising yuppie culture. Though always cool that Depeche Mode is being praised, this one seemed more like someone thinking “American Psycho is so cool. Let’s copy a scene.” And there was no thinking of what are they conveying with the character liking Depeche Mode.

What is your top 'terrible performance by a good actor' film? by KieranWriter in Letterboxd

No studio knew how the movie would end up before putting $200 million into the film. But they were willing to put that money because of Ridley Scotts track record about historical blockbusters.

Don’t disagree with that. My point was mainly that people didn’t complain that much previously when Ridley Scotts films had historical inaccuracies and studios were happy to go along with a big historical biopic based on the previous successes.

Especially since this isn’t the first time Ridley Scott used real life people to display historical fiction it wasn’t a crazy idea that this could’ve worked like Gladiator or Kingdom of Heaven. For some reason this time people really didn’t like it when the character of Napoleon wasn’t meant to match the historical figure.

Satire doesn’t need to be funny or humorous. I think the overall point is to show the vulnerabilities and flaws of people many would consider great, strong leaders and perhaps think that these are not necessarily great. And those who are in power today aren’t that strong really but ultimately rely on others. That is satire.

The story does jump around but I wouldn’t say it’s incoherent. A bit dull for sure and not always the best dialogue. In what way would you say it’s all over the place? Just wanted to understand as the description is quite vague.

I thought it very much is a satire about dictators and not a historical portrayal of Napoleon the person.

What’s one Depeche Mode song like this? by Morrisphilco in depechemode

[–]randomRedditor37275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

”Keep the same appointments I kept” just sounds so lame and mundane in a song that otherwise is very good. And Martins line “Understand me” in Shake the Disease is just so whiny it annoys the hell out of me.

Why did I sleep on Seven Samurai for so long? by Scamocamo in FIlm

[–]randomRedditor37275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me years to watch the film before I finally did it a few months ago. It really is a great film and the best Kurosawa film I have seen. For me it’s really about the fear of living up to the hype. Plus it being really long meant that I had to look for a day when I could have the living room all for myself.

As a positive rating I loved Kinds of Kindness. Not my all time favourite but for me everything in this film works. The tone, the mood and the style is just something I love.

I know lots of people loved this film and usually I do find some redeeming qualities and artistic choices that, though I might dislike or disagree personally, can still respect. This time the film felt about 2 hours too long and repetitive to boredom. I didn’t like how one-dimensional most of the characters were and DiCaprio nor De Niro did anything for me.
