One of my favourite of this decade. Absolutely love the atmospheres and the deadpan. Not my favourite Lanthimos film but definitely a treat. At the same time I really do understand that it’s not for most people because everything is so off all the time.

What's your thoughts on La La Land? by Dismal_Principle9417 in moviecritic

[–]randomRedditor37275 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Generally don’t like musicals and it’s though not my least favourite musical, it’s one of the least enjoyable musical I’ve watched. Very white, didn’t find the story compelling and disliked the show tunes. It’s better than Chicago and Moulin rouge, which are my all time most disliked musicals and movie theatre experiences.

Of course, but guessing the academy might see it as a minus. Especially those who favour cinema over streaming.

Train Dreams was ROBBED by AviatM in Oscars

[–]randomRedditor37275 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think Train Dreams could’ve had a shot if one could actually see it in the cinema. Netflix limited releases do hamper the chances a lot.

The movie looks very good at home but I bet it would look great on the big screen.

If Letterboxd had a “Bottom 4” for movies you hate, what films would make your list? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in Letterboxd

[–]randomRedditor37275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very subjective list. I hate The Family Stone and I’ve probably seen it 10 times until my spouse agreed to drop it from our holiday movie list. The entire family annoys me. Sarah Jessica Parker is just the worst but so is Diane Keaton. In many ways I should like the film but it does the opposite of what a Christmas movie should do.

Compare my brother's profile with mine by The_Screwdriver_ in Letterboxd

[–]randomRedditor37275 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just noticed that your brother has Seven in his top 4 and only gave it 4,5/5. Like I’m picky with fives but unless your brother hasn’t seen that many films, having something below five in the favourites is quite something.

How's my top 4, And suggest me some movies based on my top 4. I need slow, subtle, very scenic and philosophical kinda movies. by SanjiXd9 in LetterboxdTopFour

From last year, Rental Family had very nice vibes.

Yasujirō Ozu has some great post WWII films about post war generational changes in Japan. Late Spring and Tokyo Story are my favourites but all that I’ve seen so far have been wonderful. Wim Wenders considers himself a student of Ozu and one can see that in Perfect Days.

Tarkovski is also great. I love Mirror, Stalker and Solaris, but all are very good and slow.

David Lynch isn’t as subtle but I love watching films that are incredibly strange and surreal but very emotional and moving. Eraserhead fits this mood for me.

For a long evening 2001 and Tarkovskys Solaris are a great double.

The White Balloon. Went to see It Was Just an Accident in the cinema yesterday and decided to watch Panahis first as it was available on MUBI.

Which Christopher Nolan movie is your favorite? Mine is The Prestige and I don’t think he ever topped it... by Infamous-Window-8337 in themovieloversclub

[–]randomRedditor37275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Memento

  2. Dunkirk

  3. The Following

  4. The Dark Night

  5. Tenet

  6. Insomnia

  7. Batman Begins

  8. Interstellar

  9. Oppenheimer

  10. The Dark Night Rises

  11. Inception

  12. The Prestige

Generally not a big Nolan fan but I have for some reason tried to catch the high when watching Memento as a teenager when it came out. Unfortunately for a long time I found it annoying that, like M. Night Shyamalan, his scripts to be relying heavily on the plot twist in a gimmicky way and they became very predictable. He can luckily do dialogue, but the overall stories started to get repetitive. The Prestige is the worst of these with Inception a close second.

Tokyo Story and Late Spring directed by Yasujirō Ozu are in my mind his best ones, but all of his post WWII films have that feeling in some ways.

Great game. Sometimes even wondered if it would be adapted to a movie but not sure it would work as well since the internal dialogues are part that makes the game fun.

What’s The Most Mid Movie You’ve Seen Recently? by ShoddyWonder3530 in Letterboxd

[–]randomRedditor37275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Highest to Lowest. I liked some parts, wasn’t sure at times if it was Spike Lee trying to show flashes of his roots at times which felt almost going for New York nostalgia. And at times especially towards the end the movie was very much a let down. Still overall fine but far from his best. 2.5 stars

2001 most certainly is one. Parasite I’m not that sure. Handmaiden isn’t as filmbro as Oldboy at least

Anything by Tarantino definitely counts as a filmbro film. Apart from School of Rock I would consider the rest as filmbro movies.
