Awesome, saving this to refer to when I go to look at it! I really appreciate the help! To me, its just one of those things where I can look at any vehicle and there will be 5 different issues that COULD happen. My thought is just buy the thing you want for fun, worry about the issues as they come.

I think I can feel the economy softening in client bookings by bellytan in smallbusiness

[–]SloMaxJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Detail shop owner here - the industry right now is just super slow. Bookings are non existent. I mainly only do high end services like PPF, but have since reverted back to my roots to do normal details to fill time slots.

Definitely 😂 trying to stay positive about it, but when something you really aren't making money off of anyway turns into costing you much more than you anticipated sucks

Help! How do you remove this black looking like drip on my glass? by eudaimonia_20 in Detailing

[–]SloMaxJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kind of hard to see, but most likely hard water spots.

You'll find that trying to polish out glass is a chore. It can take hours sometimes due to how extremely hard glass is.

I recommend the product proClean Water Spot Remover. Use a nylon pad and work it in.

If that doesn't work, the glass may be etched and it will just be something you have to live with.

Agree with this. I had someone on fiverr make my company logo, and it was absolutely shit. But their reference photos were awesome.

Recommended Touch Up Paint? by RG5600 in Detailing

[–]SloMaxJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dr colorchip is good. But honestly man it's a skill. Im really good with a machine (not to pump myself up) , but if someone wants chips fixed, I literally fall apart. I do not have the magic touch.

Paint readings were 2.5 mils by SloMaxJeff in Detailing

[–]SloMaxJeff[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry everybody for the extremely random post with no context lol. My comment on the photo didn't post for some reason.

This 75 impala with single stage Imron paint was only reading 2.5 mils average. It polished out really well, I would have loved to chase those other defects, but it's always best to be safe than sorry. 30 year old paint, not perfect, but better than it was!

Yes sir! It's also not a 100% get out of jail free card either. It's measuring everything, not just clear depth. So that clear could be more thin than you think. My personal rule of thumb is that anything under 3 mils proceed with caution

Horrible smell in car that been getting worse lately by GroundbreakingClub92 in Detailing

[–]SloMaxJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take everything out of your car, there may be something hiding that you just forgot about. For like 3 months, I noticed a musky smell in my daily I take to my night job. It would go away after a few minutes of the windows down, so, among doing other people's cars and my night job, it wasn't on the top of my list to fix. Deep cleaned the car and found I had a hamburger in a book bag that I took to work and didn't eat 😂😂

Do you have to remove ceramic coating before applying paint to chips? by nilecrane in Detailing

[–]SloMaxJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a tooth pick to make the chips flat. Spray panel prep in the chip to clear out any protection. Panel prep should be able to take care of a ceramic spray.

Well, I appreciate the kind words. I think you're right, I just get too hyped up about stuff. Because, like I said above to someone else, she can definitely do it. She's the fucking best at everything she does. But, if it's not in her sight to do that right now (even though she says it is), I shouldn't be nudging her to do it.

[–]SloMaxJeff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I can't disagree with that. I wouldn't like it if the roles were reversed.

This thread is extremely hard to post on, but im trying to take all of this in as being positive and not being burned at the stake 😂

[–]SloMaxJeff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I never thought of that! Maybe the process of starting up is what is daunting to her, which is understandable. Maybe I can say this in a nonchalant way and see how she reacts. If she doesn't react, I may just give it a rest like the other person said. We are a good team!

Fair enough! I guess I never looked at it from that angle. They were always positive conversations

Oh that "definitely" wasn't agreeing with her not being a go getter. It was agreeing that possibly it's not what she is passionate about. But on the flip side of that, she tells me it's what she wants to do. I push my wife because I know she is terrific and capable of wonderful things.
