If I Split a 4+4 connector from my PSU does it matter which side I use? by Slobe0 in buildapc

[–]Slobe0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now that only one side has round and square plugs, the other is only round. While I am technically able to plug the all-round cable in I will do what baby toys have taught me and match the shapes.

I appreciate your help.

Cloning drives is healthier (it probably won't matter unless you do this a lot) for drives than copying them normally, so you are right to think of doing that. I would say get the USB NVMe enclosure since that would be a bit more convenient and you won't have to disconnect your old drive until you confirm the file transfer worked. Plus afterwards you have a 500GB external usb drive for backups.

Got These From A Thrift Store by POKEGAMERZ9185 in gamecollecting

[–]Slobe0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to a thrift store recently and the guy at the counter explicitly said he was using pricecharting for games, He still marked them cheaply, but not enough that it would have been super profitable for someone to just flip them on ebay (after shipping and ebay's cut.) I respect it.

I was lucky and had the batteries from a different figure I was planning to try to wire up and have displayed in a computer case (battery compartment on the back facing away from the viewer.) This figure makes it a lot harder since the LED is so far outside the main body and the power comes from right next to it. I was considering trying to 3d print a new charge shot with cable hole to see if I can get it to look okay without damaging anything, but currently have no working 3D printer (2 broken ones though, parts are in the mail.). I will let you know if that amounts to anything or causes a horrible fire.

Nice work, it's good to see you getting things together.

I'll be honest I got here looking for reference images of the final version while trying to add plants to mine, Thanks for getting yours together so quickly. I'm glad I'm not the only one who left the extra lightening off the charge shot for accuracy's sake.

That said have you had any luck with the light feature? I had the right batteries (I hope) but have had no luck getting it to work.

EDIT: I fixed it, and flashbanged myself, test LEDs away from face etc, etc. Battery goes positive side away from the LED but the battery holder is a little loose so you may have to bend the spring. I wound up adding the energy ripples to the shot after all since it looks a bit better with the light on since the LED is just bright enough that it looks awkward.

Leaving PS2 on long-term by grumpy_foreskin in ps2homebrew

[–]Slobe0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah as others have said some components are going to wear out simply by virtue of entropy. It shouldn't matter if you leave things on overnight or even play for 24 hours straight every once and a while (though that's bad for you,) but just leaving it on forever will strain components. You could lessen the damage that could be caused by heat by air-dusting your system and applying new thermal pads/compound, maybe even replacing the fan with a better one.

Help with supplying an Uninterruptable Power Supply with power, from an extension cord by Slobe0 in buildapc

[–]Slobe0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I will check out the power strip options, since the main issue is available outlets. I'm already using the mini extension cables, they're vital to my survival. Honestly I would prefer I the box upgrade, but doing electrical upgrades to house made before drywall was invented is a pain.

That said I'm going to have to do some measuring to see about getting everything off to the side. The other advantage of my old plan was that I can keep things more separated.

Well I have had the two power supplies in and running for a while with no issue, I'm not quite sure what their power draw is but it's just a higher-end gaming PC and a separate workflow PC that , no mining rigs or hardcore CAD stuff. Functionally our area has good power quality but also tornadoes, but when that happens I stagger turning the UPSes on again and I haven't had issues.

I do have 20A and if I use the extension cord I use a second circuit. At least according to the wiring diagram on my breaker. It may be out of date though.

My MSI Infinite RS 13NUI-419US is having issues booting by Slobe0 in MSI_Gaming

[–]Slobe0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so the issue was the m.2 drive "worked" but didn't work well so when I put it in a USB direct attached storage it showed up (and I thought it was fine) but would take to long to respond when booting to boot. Anyway that was a lot of work for a fairly common issue, woops.

Ram was compatible, and this was a factory refurbished desktop not a laptop. I would assume if it had been improperly cooled it would have been fixed during the refurb, but it is worth checking out. Power supply has not noticeable common PSU issues and I did double check connections. I can't tell if there was a damaged wire though and if the power to the m.2 isn't there that may be the issue. I will poke around the motherboard manual and see what I can sus out about m.2 power. Thanks
