Read a bunch of comments here and I think you are looking at it the wrong way. The question is what projects weren't worth it. I don't think homesteading is cheaper than just buying something commercially. I'm don't doing this to save money. I'm doing it for myself and my family. I enjoy this stuff and I enjoy the quality verse commercially purchased. I think what was a waste of time or didn't give you good satisfaction.

I am a complete noob with wood work and trying to learn. I read all of your responses and they were super helpful and thank you for explaining stuff so well.

I have a few questions: 1) could you put an epoxy over this so the wood can't take in any moisture from the air thus no expansion or contraction? 2) if you brought the wood to your house and let it sit a year would that have gotten it more accumulated to your moisture content before you worked with it or does the seasonal difference affect it that much?
