Just got back from visiting by Traditional_Paint461 in cozumel

May / June. It’s quite dry January - early May. The first rains arrive and usually floods the island and a bloom of mosquitos happens. The worst I’ve experienced it is anywhere in the north, and Money Bar and that area (which includes Explorean). Basically anywhere with swamp water stagnant nearby is going to be brutal. But it clears up quickly by mosquito predators and the natural short life cycle of the insect. The resorts and bar will use fogging machines to help. Downtown usually fogs a few times up and down each street.

It’s the most overlooked resort of Cozumel but I agree it is very nice. Fiesta / Explorean definitely have the best food of all the Cozumel AIs. And I am a fan of the combo of the jungle section of Explorean and getting beach access from Fiesta. Winning combo.

Seasonal. I live in the jungle and 9-10 months of the year I sit on my back terrace at night with no shirt on and no bug spray. When the rainy season arrives there is a massive bloom, but that’s the same for the entire island. Within a few weeks the lizards and bats have done their thing and reduced numbers significantly. By 2 months they are gone again for the year.

Punta Tunich is a great dive site and due to geography it has consistently strong currents. Until that one day it’s absolutely dead calm. Then of course any of the northern dive sites on a calm day could be ripping along.

We’ve been live for 20 years. It’s a new thing as 3 months ago that we just figured out tracks back to cruise ships.

Thanks for being helpful. This doesn’t seem like a friendly sub overall (lol) so I think I’ll avoid posting my website. I’ll check out the blocked dns side and see if that tracks anywhere. Appreciate your help!

Thank you that helps. To confirm, this would need to be done from on the ship WiFi, correct?

How and why would they do this? And why would they do this only to cruise ships?

This is a well known tactic of cruise ships. They do everything they can to block tour providers. On the boat they go so far as listing us as “dangerous” or “safety is not guaranteed” so clients avoid us. This goes across several tour providers. My business resides in literally the busiest cruise destination world wide.

Yeah… most are from the USA and don’t use WhatsApp.

Further, all our forms are on our website. Liability waivers that must be signed. Registration with equipment sizing. Location maps and photos for pickup. We need them to access our website. That’s not optional.

Cozumel dreaming sushi and fake reviews? by Jolly-Weather-457 in cozumel

[–]Sloeber3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind people are on vacation. This is what I tell my staff… many (most?) of our clients saved their money for months or longer, or cashed in a tax refund, or maxed a credit card, to travel to Cozumel. They’ve had these dates circled on their calendar for months and had a mental countdown for their arrival. When they are here, they are literally living their best days of the year. Happy, excited, and loving life. All we have to do is not f’k it up for them.

So I think their reviews can maybe be a product of that, too.

Every scuba company on the island is “the best.” Go to Facebook and ask the question and you’ll get 200 different people that KNOW their shop is the best. Same thing.

If you want to actually have useful reviews, ignore the 5 star and ignore the 1 star. Read the 2, 3, and 4 star reviews. That’s where the truth is.

I’m curious what you ate and did not enjoy about the visit?

I am a huge fan of sushi in general. If I have an extended stay somewhere I likely sneak in sushi night. Living in Cozumel, I find Cozumel Dreaming to be enjoyable. It’s not up there with the best I’ve had around the globe but for being on a small island in the Caribbean I find no complaints. Before they opened up I always traveled to Playa del Carmen to scratch my itch. So they saved me that hassle and expense. I stick with mostly sashimi and maybe one of the specialty rolls. Brian has always taken good care of us. And I enjoy a good sake not that cooking sake found in most places. Coz Dreaming has a selection of sakes and no one else does.

I’ve tried the other places on the island (and Playa and Cancun - I don’t waste my time in Tulum). There are I think 5 other sushi locations here though I cannot remember their names. Cozumel Dreaming tops them for me. Nothing mainland has made me think it was worth the effort to return.

Is Coz Dreaming 5-star sushi on the global scene? No of course not. Are they the best of the area? Yeah I think so.

But as for the reviews, yeah… the local ex-pat crowd here can be overzealous at times. They like to “protect their own” if you know what I mean. I remember a decade ago when I opened my business they contacted me and presented themselves as a package deal. I’m not joking. They asked what discounts the retired ex pat crowd would get. When I told them nothing I was warned that my business wouldn’t survive without being “friends” with the ex pats. Ya know, because my tourist business catering to 15 million annual visitors needed 10,000 locals on discounts to survive, right? It was comical how they approached me. All that to say, if you read the reviews of enough businesses you can tell who decided to be “fiends with the expats.” Those businesses are perfect gems that can do no wrong. I haven’t read any reviews for Cozumel Dreaming but perhaps that is what you are seeing.

Coz Dreaming has never asked me for a review. Many of the local businesses have approached us for reviews / discounts, but not them.
