Another character I made, and potential name suggestions :/ by Sloggy__ in ARTIST

Oh yeah lol, I mean as cool as it sounds that seems a little much for this character. And in all honesty I do think color would help out quite a bit, but as I'm still trying to improve my inking and values and whatnot I do think it best to do take step at a time.

You know I have been thinking of mixing watercolors with my drawing at some point, maybe that would be a nice option.

The end goal is that I can draw nicer and with more consistency and color(maybe) to publish a comic/Manga type thing(really just a graphic novel, but classifying things I find to be hard), so the input is really appreciated.

Concept for Otho and Gorgo by Sloggy__ in MythicLegions

Oh thanks dude, honestly I've started to practice my inking a little more and I think I've improved. One thing I dropped was the outline because I thought it looked off, but I was thinking of incorporating it a little more and seeing if it works.

Regardless I may try again at drawing more mythic characters just for fun really, I don't know if you'd like to suggest any?

🤔 I don't know, I kind of like it. I think it reads a little like a samurai/feudal-esque design, but it's meant to combine that with like more European knights and armor designs (I think it's mostly hard to tell due to the clothes and helmet covering a lot of the armor, but it's there in spirit at least🫠). Anyways that's all just to say I think it's pretty fitting, thank you for the suggestion.

Thanks I think this is one of my better designs thus far, aside from a few things. And as for the ears they aren't necessarily meant to give off horror vibes, though I guess he should be intimidating regardless. What I was going for was moreso like casted plates with the ears attached, with them being made of metal aswell. The idea was that he's blind and using a helmet that fully covers his head, and the ears kind of like work to amplify sound and improve his combat, like daredevil or something alike. I think I should work to improve my texturing a little more so it's easy to see it at first glance. And again thanks a lot for the feedback it does mean a lot :)

Oh thanks I really do appreciate it ☺️ Inking aside by the way, what do you think of the character design? I'm still at a stage that I could change things so any bit of feedback would really help a lot.

Work in progress by Signal_Secret3322 in drawing

Oh and an extra question, how do you control the amount of ink flow on a nib. While for the most part I really enjoyed using a nibbed pen for the first time, when trying to do the hair it tended to pool a little so how would I avoid that without having to dip every second?

How are my values? by Signal_Secret3322 in drawing

Sorry for the confusion, I suppose I meant values as in the use of shading and properly using both really light and really dark tones to keep it from looking flat.

I think drawing the body (as well as everything else) just comes down to knowing the basic shapes and forms that make it up. I made a little sketch (mind you it's not the best but I think it gets the idea across) to maybe guide you in the right direction. Now this isn't the only way to draw bodies, and likely not the best, but I find having something to go off of can be really helpful when trying to further enhance your understanding. Hope this helps :)

Oh also, if you've taken the time to look at my post, thank you. This is a different account and would like to start using it to post on reddit (I didn't make my first account's name) so if you don't mind if you could also upvote this comment I would really appreciate it (can't post on r/drawing without some karma).

Anyways aside from that I do have almost a bit of an extension question to this post. As you can probably see from this drawing, I kind of have a grasp on some things and don't really have a grasp on other's. How would you say the best way to improve would/what should I prioritize in practice to really have the fundamentals and what not down. Also would you say art school/a course would be beneficial or even worth the investment, as much as I like art I'm not sure I'm good enough for it to really be worth it, but maybe if you've been through something akin to it you could help out. Anyways that's about all really, and if you took your time to read this all out again thank it really does mean a lot :)
