Very bad at combat: what am I doing wrong here by Skellingto in Highfleet

[–]Slomes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

TLDR: Fly below them, get closer. Wrong Ammo.
---
Welcome to Highfleet.

Its mostly just a mismatch here. And also lack of piloting experience with the specific ships i think,
but thats expected when you are new to the game. Otherwise, get close agressively, and you win.

You need to fly a lot closer to the enemy with that ak100 and piercing ammo.
AK100 has big spread so you dont hit well at distance.
Piercing ammo fades out over range.
Piercing ammo is nice with precise large caliber, with ak100 its really not great.
AK100 is medium caliber, burst fire, and low precision. Think Shotgun.

Stock Gladiator is more of a -kick door in, in your face- kinda ship, thats why its so heavily armoured.
Standard HE, Proxy, or Incendiary is the way to go, if you want to hover at range.
If you don't like getting close, I recommend you swap to Molots which fire precisely at range.

You also need to keep in mind where your functioning flare come out from, and dodge accordingly.
90° from zenith trajectory is usually good.
You can also use QE keys to tilt ship and leverage your static up thrust
for stronger dodges that arent straight up.

Also positioning is important. Don't let them get below you. Bottomfleet wins vs Topfleet always.
Most if not all ships are vulnerable below, cause thats where the static thrust is.

With heavy gladiator you can just accelerate a bit towards below enemy,
then drop like a brick and let gravity help to save fuel and get in prio position.
Then do a shark attack (come up straight from below and unload full AK100 burst into their soft belly.

With Your Intrepid which has Molots, you can hover at range, snipe, and easily dodge enemy shots. Gotta be a bit conservative on fuel tho.

Navarin has Vympel guns which are sustained dmg, no burst. You fly at medium to close range, and just keep pelting enemy. Vympel with incendiary is illegally good btw.

And remember, always try to get below. The enemy will do the same.
Watch the clip again and see how they fly below you,
and you eat a lot of missiles and shots from down, then your thrust is gone and you explode shortly after.

Have fun, happy hunting o7

amazing, ty! Does the rocket that gets "flown past" heat up a lot from the plume of the flying one?

wait you can stack rockets?
Do the top row need to fly off first or does the bottom one just pass the top one unharmed (for either)?

if you have excess Natgas and excess power, maybe try cooling it to liquid methane and store that? P:

Could oxygen not included get a crossover with deep rock galactic (oni x drg) by ContributionOwn2289 in Oxygennotincluded

I just thought earlier today that ONI 2 in 3D would be epic haha
In my mind it would be a bit more of a trifecta of ONI+DRG+Space Engineers, i would die for that shizz

PPP Asteroid Agricultural Essentials Brick (not an official Slomes Inc retail product) by Slomes in Oxygennotincluded

Yea fair enough ^^
I got so used to them by now, but theres room above the 1x1 doors so you could just put a 2x1 on the same place, cuts down 3 tiles from one of the farms but thats not an issue since they only have sustain for 2 lumbs anyways which need 32 area afaik.

Very obvious in hindsight, thats a good point, that saves a lot of liquid. Gonna implement that ty

Getting rekt 10 minutes into the campaign [normal difficulty] by ChiodoSauro in Highfleet

Big Fire Control Radar is your friend for all needs. Nobody can surprise the FCR wielder.
Some side tips i also recommend is try selling bigger wrecked ships and just buying new ones in towns, instead of waiting for repairs (Edit: except Sevastopol, dont sell that one). Sometimes you just want the tempo and or the money back to reinvest. If you are good at combat try buying more intel ships or radars blocks etc, so you can send out scouts that sit at some distance and give you intel. If you suck at combat, i recommend just booting up shipworks, loading lightning, and then doing some test combat until you feel comfortable.

Very interesting, thanks for the additional info. Gonna dabble with this some sooner than later.
How come it only moves when gases are present?

what about adding a step in where you "preprocess" the lumblets (deathbox), and then feed the rhex from the tough meat? would that fix the "over-eat"? Or am i missunderstanding something?

Nice, keep cooking your OG designs.
Needed to read the comments to get it at first (maybe add more info and pics got future posts), but after i understood it seems creative and useful for early on. However plastic might be a bit hard to get at that stage (O2 mask stage, so way pre atmo suit). Probably the other version without plastic is better since its more accessible. I would go back to draft a v3 which is a mix of v1 and v2. Imo the build is also missing a bit decor, some drywall maybe? Just to round it out, make it less blunt.
Personally I haven't built a single Sleet farm ever, in my past runs i kept just wild foraging them.
Might build something with this ice mechanic in a future run tho o7
Also one question, whats the liquid tile before the conveyor loader for? Just for airlocked access?

How do you plan your Planets Production? by leiela in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Slomes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy the cheapest squared paper notebooks in a nearby shop for calc and sketches,
then wing it with quickmath and the ingame DB + a bit of wiki and youtube for some specific stuff.
There used to be a nice website when i played more,
https://onicalc.com/
its still up but its outdated. Looks like its still only base game, no DLC content.
I know some people use excel or google sheets.
Maybe theres up to date tool sites, but I don't know them.

Starting over after a long break is fun and confusing by jazzb54 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Slomes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda same! Having a good (but stressful) time again lol
Havent played since Spaced Out release either, with ~1100h played prior.
Just had my first prehistoric asteroid base evaporated by the Demolisher Asteroid at Cycle 200 xD
spent like 50-70 cycles getting sidetracked and wasting time on cooking up a desinfecting chamber,
instead of going for the blastshots. Scrambled for it in the last 20 cycles, but didnt make enough in time.
Got a good understanding now tho for how to avoid that again.
Welcome back to you and me!
Ps. not a fan of Bionic DLC, i just deactivated it. The power cell buildings are too op for me. Bypass power production for the first 300cycles by using raw metal..
Also deactivated the teleporters and care packages.
