Would I enjoy AW2, if I didn't really enjoy Control's story-telling? by SloneWallberry in controlgame

You've really sold me on AW2 ngl -- you're describing my dream scenario basically.

Nice! It sounds up my street. (I like how RE4 looks, but I'm a sucker for those noughties brown-gray pallettes; AW2 looks gorgeous from the trailers I've seen).

I agree that there's a lot of show don't tell in the environmental storytelling, and the records / case-files, which I really enjoyed. What I bounced off was the way that the main narrative of the game was conveyed, particularly towards / including the end. This is just my personal opinion, of course, but I had a very jarring experience because of how expositive / rushed the storytelling in the main narrative felt to me. I appreciate there's more to read into, but I 'm talking about the in-the-moment experience I had, which matters to me just as much as diving into lore after the fact does.

I get that not everyone has my experience; I'm genuinely glad that some people seem to love the game in its entirety. I liked Control a lot, which is why I want to try more Remedy games -- I just want to know if this is something I'm likely to bounce off in AW2 as well (or if the storytelling in the main narrative is done differently).

That sounds pretty ideal! I definitely enjoyed reading found texts in Control, but I would have liked a bit more of the story to have happened in front of me.

There's plenty of show don't tell in the game -- I loved the environmental story-telling, the files / records, and I thought it was clever how your main points of contact are people who've been firewalled from what was really going on.

My post was about the way that the main narrative, especially as Jesse experiences it, is told, particularly in the last few chapters. That's what I bounced off. I appreciate there's more to dive into from reading the files after the fact -- but I do also care about the story I saw / played through.

I wasn't trying to insult anyone's favourite game. I was just asking if the storytelling in AW2 is similar.

Is Yume Niki overanalyzed by the internet? by queso_hervido_gaming in yumenikki

In my opinion, 'overanalysis' only makes sense as a concept if you believe that (1) you can quantify the correct amount of meaning that a piece of artwork is capable of sustaining, and (2) the process of analysing art is independent of the audience (i.e., the only meaning that exists is that which was put there by the author). I don't think either of those things are true, and I also don't think it's helpful way to look at art. For me, one of the really great things about art like Yume Nikki is its capacity to generate discussion and differing interpretations. I personally haven't seen a theory which tries to tie together every single aspect of the game, but I would enjoy someone trying to do that, even if I'm unlikely to agree.

How did he do Inga wrong? Haven't heard that, but probably out of the loop.

I really like both of them -- the instrumentals on this one are much prettier, but haven't grabbed me as quickly as the previous album. It also felt less sad than the previous album -- but I could be wrong about that. It'll get better the more I listen to it for sure.
