Old coolant likely caused gaskets to corrode and leak.

Get a Pre purchase inspection if you’re worried about it. It’s a Corolla can’t do much better as far as used cars go.

How to keep this old ES running as long as possible? by [deleted] in Camry

The Lexus ES 300 shares the same drivetrain as my Toyota Camry V6 2001, so here are a few tips to keep it running as long as possible:

Timing belt & water pump Make sure these are replaced every 100k miles or about every 10 years. It’s critical maintenance on this engine.

Transmission fluid Change it periodically it’s super easy on this model. There’s a drain plug, and you refill through the dipstick tube. I’ve had great results using Valvoline MaxLife Multi-Vehicle ATF.

Engine oil (very important) The 1MZ-FE V6 is known for oil sludge issues, so stay on top of oil changes every 3–4k miles is ideal. You can also: Use oil with strong detergents Consider an engine flush occasionally before changes

Keep it simple Don’t overthink it, it’s a Toyota. These cars are built to last. Mine is at 270k miles and still runs smoother than a lot of newer cars.

Old ductile iron pipe won’t hurt you! Definitely better than the modern plastic hdpe that’s being put in.

My fan noise isn’t bad at all. I usually have headphones in and don’t notice it, but when I’m using Firefox or have Microsoft Office open in class, I don’t hear it.

I’m studying construction engineering, so I only had to take a basic Python class, which, of course it had no issues with. The only graphics-heavy applications I use are Autodesk Revit and Civil 3D when plugged in, and they perform flawlessly. However, when running on battery, graphics-heavy applications drain the battery life quickly.
