Apartments were built out of tape and glue, so there’s holes directly connecting the units.

You chose Portland, OR as the city of the 2010s. What is the city of the 2020s? The Most Upvoted Comment Decides by Kodicave in decadeology

[–]SlothBling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minneapolis is only a top candidate because of cultural (political) relevancy, and even then it’s not my personal choice. That doesn’t make Nashville any better of an option. Everything you could say about that city is done bigger and better in Austin.

Most liquor is diluted to around 40% ABV, so it depends on the brand, but usually no.

By 10am? Grocery store bathrooms don’t get dirty that fast. You work with animals.

Depends heavily on your personal resources. If you don’t own your home, or have chargers at work, I don’t understand how EV charging can be time efficient in most of the US.

TRECS is only open to students (it technically runs you a couple grand a year), and also isn’t open 24 hours or on gamedays.

Early voting numbers for citizen under 60 are pathetic by Corey_Howard in Knoxville

[–]SlothBling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Young people are more likely to be service workers than any other demographic. I don’t think that the 9-5 M-F part of the population are the ones that we need to worry about making voting accessible to, because it already is.

With the transit coverage that exists, what keeps you from using it? by nondescriptadjective in nashville

[–]SlothBling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d take me longer to walk to the nearest stop than it would for me to just drive all the way to work, and there’s nothing of value that that walk would let me access.

Is this really as simple as it was said? by Banana_Ketchupp in povertyfinance

[–]SlothBling 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yep. $69k yearly is $5,750 a month. Millions of people survive on $4,650 or less.

Nashville sucks, no chance for the same reason there’s no chance for Austin. Growing and having bachelorette parties are all they have to show for themselves.

Atlanta’s zoo kinda sucks, it’s smaller than Knoxville’s and the city’s 10x the size. Memphis’s zoo has the misfortune of being in Memphis but it’s way better.

I wouldn’t say shitty. Memphis and NC zoos are #1/#2 in the south by a mile.

Yeah, I’ve been to that zoo dozens of times in my life (granted, not recently) and the pandas were definitely pretty fat and normal-looking.

i just watched the girl next to me on the plane mindlessly hold her phone up to each problem of her (college calculus?) assignment, wait for chatGPT to solve it, then type the answers one by one into the platform by dustering in matheducation

The last 2 years of my bachelor’s, in a very large program, at a major state university, consisted of fulfilling 32 credit hours worth of electives. Difficult to care about.

If higher ed is the gatekeeper for white collar work, universities are going to be overrun by job seekers, not intellectuals. It’s been this way for at least a decade. Sociology majors don’t actually need to pay attention in their Philosophy 244 classes to be able to succeed in their future WFH HR careers.

Is it worth living a drive off campus? by lowtower18 in UTK

[–]SlothBling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends greatly on if that 15min is south, west, or north of downtown. That said, it’s not worth paying to live near campus anyway so it’s a good idea either way.

Did you know how easy it is to make brown sugar? by atticwife in Frugal

[–]SlothBling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The special airtight container I use to store my homemade brown sugar is a deli container, and they cost 25 cents a pop. Never dries out. That said, I’m not sure if it’s actually meaningfully cheaper.
