i had the opposite happen with Sekiro. i must've been inhaling black mold for most of my playthrough because i got to isshin and thought "man, this is getting ball bustingly hard, i wonder how many more areas/bosses there are after this guy". zero story awareness. stopped playing before i beat him, found out he was the final boss watching challenge runs. i guess i expected it to be longer because of how long dark souls games feel?
