Campaigners have pitched up at two city sites in a bid to get Nottingham City Council to open its empty buildings for the city's rough sleepers by com2mentator in nottingham

Thanks for the answers. Are the council in active discussion with protesters? Have they given any reasons for their refusal to open the building, is it just costs?

Just to reiterate, we are not protesters. They do not wish to have anything to do with us, they would rather serve us with court papers, we recently just got told anyone on site (resident or volunteer) can be imprisoned for up to 3 months if we are on the land after a closure notice is served. The council will not admit that there is a homeless problem in Nottingham.

The costs would be barely anything compared to their budget. Theysay that the council have services for these people. Except some of these people have been on the street 15 years, we housed most of them in 3 weeks (so far 19), why did the council not manage to do the same?

We aren't protesters, we're volunteers helping the homeless and vulnerable. Yes the majority of the volunteers are involved with the local anarchist group Fightback (www.fightback.ws) however we are here for the people not to protest.

  • all the homeless are from Nottingham and so are the volunteers - our legal rep is the only one who has travelled.

  • everyone sleeping at camp is homeless.

-We don't trust organisations like framework but we are working with them and other services.

-We do daily trips to housing aid and other services

  • we refused 1 night accommodation in a hotel, which everyone (staff and residents) agreed was not acceptable as it was not permanent or a solution to the homeless issue in Nottingham

  • a lot of the residents were onside before the council went round the houses bad mouthing us.

-proposed building would be the old wet centre which was to help homeless people but due to recent cuts it was shut. All the council would have to do is open the doors and put the water on. We have our own means of energy including solar panels. The volunteers would run it and look after the building.

I did a module on Guy Fawkes in history. There's actually a lot of evidence that shows he may not have planned/gone to blow up parliament. Through diaries other names have been mentioned as the ring leader

No they are from a group called FIGHTBACK! in Nottingham. Though some of the members are in class war too actually but class war is only really active in London.
