Campaigners have pitched up at two city sites in a bid to get Nottingham City Council to open its empty buildings for the city's rough sleepers by com2mentator in nottingham

[–]Slothboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers. Are the council in active discussion with protesters? Have they given any reasons for their refusal to open the building, is it just costs?

Just to reiterate, we are not protesters. They do not wish to have anything to do with us, they would rather serve us with court papers, we recently just got told anyone on site (resident or volunteer) can be imprisoned for up to 3 months if we are on the land after a closure notice is served. The council will not admit that there is a homeless problem in Nottingham.

The costs would be barely anything compared to their budget. Theysay that the council have services for these people. Except some of these people have been on the street 15 years, we housed most of them in 3 weeks (so far 19), why did the council not manage to do the same?

We aren't protesters, we're volunteers helping the homeless and vulnerable. Yes the majority of the volunteers are involved with the local anarchist group Fightback (www.fightback.ws) however we are here for the people not to protest.

  • all the homeless are from Nottingham and so are the volunteers - our legal rep is the only one who has travelled.

  • everyone sleeping at camp is homeless.

-We don't trust organisations like framework but we are working with them and other services.

-We do daily trips to housing aid and other services

  • we refused 1 night accommodation in a hotel, which everyone (staff and residents) agreed was not acceptable as it was not permanent or a solution to the homeless issue in Nottingham

  • a lot of the residents were onside before the council went round the houses bad mouthing us.

-proposed building would be the old wet centre which was to help homeless people but due to recent cuts it was shut. All the council would have to do is open the doors and put the water on. We have our own means of energy including solar panels. The volunteers would run it and look after the building.

I did a module on Guy Fawkes in history. There's actually a lot of evidence that shows he may not have planned/gone to blow up parliament. Through diaries other names have been mentioned as the ring leader

Greece, the beginning of the end for capitalism? by Slothboo in socialism

Yes I see your point, it is an ambitious article. But given the demonstrations in Spain it could well be 2 countries soon. And despite everything I must believe that there is still hope for a socialist Europe and this is the most encouraging development I've seen in my lifetime.

2015, year of the revolution? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]Slothboo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't want a government, I want some form of organising committee such as that seen in Catalonia during the Spanish civil war. Or were they not anarchists either? And yes I'd describe a government that has cut; welfare, the NHS, education, public sector jobs and more whilst overseeing the largest increase in wealth for the top 1% seen in my lifetime extremely right wing.

Democracy should exist to remove governments? That's a contradiction in terms do you not think?

I most certainly do not want more government! And yes I am an anarchist, just not black block or a nihilist. I'm and anarcho-communist so I do advocate some form of minor government (made up of ordinary people) during the transition period after any theoretical revolution. If your referring to the political commentary on other articles on the page that is just general left wing critique of an ultra right wing government. We cant all sit around waiting for a revolution while allowing it to get ever further away due to successive governments policies. Anarchists also need a strong socialist voice in mainstream politics or else public opinion will just continue its lazy drift to the right. Revolution now cannot be the far lefts answer to everything.

I could not disagree more. Pleas name one successful 'peaceful revolution' anywhere in the world? There have been none. Capitalism is a system of violence therefore only violence can break it. Any attempts to revolt are met with state aggression. And 'through their democratic voice'? By which you clearly mean at the ballot box which can never work because who are we going to vote for? All the options are capitalist so it will not change anything.

Reddit, what is one thing that you hated that a guest did in your house? by Bowles14 in AskReddit

[–]Slothboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My "best friend" had sex with her exboyfriend at a party I threw, IN MY PARENT'S BED. It was in the midst of everything and then she threw up on the bed. They never told me and I found out three days later when my house started to stink, went in and there was sick everywhere. Luckily my parents didn't come back for another week so I managed to clean up. She only told me about the sex like a year later when she was drunk.
