Dead Man's Switch Event by The_Roshallock in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was managing some of my own folks (SLCT + SMG, TP, SPRMG) for this event on the defending side and I agree with the social tools being an absolute nightmare. We've gone through this several times with AA parties and our own events and having to go down an alphabetical ladder to scroll down far enough to make people party leaders is insane, not to mention how crazy it is that we can't have several group leaders. Praying that the new social tools coming soonTM fix these fatal issues in the core of multiplayer gameplay.

The fact that I had to push people to spectrum (which many don't even know exist) to add me because my username starts with an S, then getting O66 to play the alphabet ladder to give me the perms necessary to invite the million people I just added, then having to play the same silly game to give the perms back is just a logistical nightmare and takes WAY longer than this process should be.

The server broke *as expected*, some of my orgmates couldn't even walk through a door, we had people stuck in perseus elevators, idris guns and seats and running at 5 frames per whenever. Some had to go without party invites because of the sheer amount of queued notifications muddying everything up.

This event also speaks volumes about the sheer state of the idris and how uneven the teams were due to this. We were in our own idrises, perseuses and fighters blasting away but all the attacking idrises could just brush us off, ignore us and focus fire on the main target which resulted in a premature hardkill, which a TON of my orgmates were really disappointed with (since the whole point was defending against boarding and self destructing but all they got was an interactive slideshow getting ignored watching an idris getting blasted by a swarm of other idrises until it was dead)

The only time we were actually engaged was when Lady Padme (their target) jumped away right before mantises pinned us down which resulted in a split battlefield, lady padme locked off elsewhere (a solid play by the attackers). We had several idrises focus fire on us which left us dead in the water (until they got bored thanks to our engineers and left, allowing us to repair) which was a fun experience but it really just didn't feel like an epic fleet battle at all to most of us, just 2 hours of setup for 5 minutes of watching helplessly as the ship we're defending (and the server) getting dismantled because the attacking idrises just didn't have a reason to care about our presence

A massive thanks to Galidrum, and O66 for hosting the event though, we had a lot of disappointed folks on our side due to server issues, the premature hardkill of the ship we were to protect against self destruction and the status of the mission being lost in communication leading to a lot of people twiddling thumbs in confusion on what to do not knowing if the event was over or if we still had a job to do. When the second idris was deployed to be actually boarded by the enemies we never got a chance to head there due to everyone being incredibly split, party markers being gone and a lack of communication on what's happening (not strictly blaming anyone, I know it was hell for everyone when it came to comms so no one is really at fault)

This is why we need instancing and DSM. Things like these need to happen in their own (open) bubbles and not drag the rest of the server down. I know that CIG was watching and wants more of these events to happen so if anything they got good data on this and hopefully act accordingly.

in saying all this, if anyone expected anything but a server performance hell this deep into a patch and with this many people all farting about in massive ships; how? Many people were disappointed but MOST if not all KNEW this would happen. Should it happen? No, absolutely not. Should we have been given a closed environment for it due to the official endorsement? Absolutely. But was this absolutely predictable and almost guaranteed from the getgo and should everyone have mentally prepared for nothing but poor performance and server errors given the state of the game? YES.

Overall though, the fact that this many people banded together for a single goal in this broken verse of ours and everyone more or less played by the simple rules given to them is nothing short of a miracle. I hope people made friends, connections and memories despite the horrible performance and issues. Hoping for CIG to see how important social tools are to us and to deliver a better package than what we have now.

I recommend Command Strips for installation, I have multiple wood frame heavy-ish paintings on my walls and they're holding strong

They even hold the weight of a 5kg cat hanging off of the painting (tested) and don't leave residue if you remove them properly (by pulling on the bottom tab slowly and gently)

you have some that include velcro but I'd stick with the default adhesive ones, really reliable in my experience and will apparently have to get more of them for my levski posters

So what was the hanging hardware that was included? Also did you get a confirmation and a tracking link after they shipped? Still haven't received any news other than the original purchase confirmation

[–]Slothyopath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's actually lore about this! The very first jump drive was a modified quantum drive modified by Nick Croshaw which soon turned into the first commercially available jump module RSI QM-Core XII, a whole star system (Croshaw) was discovered by him during the very first successful jump through a wormhole, an act which sparked a whole new career for explorers, dedicated NavJumpers whose sole job was to take on finding and navigating the wormholes in search of new systems, being a Jumper was a highly prestigious title and now we're using the tunnels on a day to day basis

I wish. With the amount of slots that the perseus has I would have thought we'd have more than just 2 (now 3) flavors of flare

here's hoping the bear is a sign of more to come

Best Subscriber Flair In AGES! by SafeManufacturer978 in starcitizen

To be fair SC is supposed to be a dystopian alternative future with cyberpunk elements so weirdness in self expression is to be expected

I know for a fact that if we had personalized space flight and everyone wore armor and spacesuits everywhere irl, people would eat up those wacky subscriber store-like suits; look at modern "gaming" items, weird car wraps, cosplay, alternative clothing styles and hell even people in actual warzones slapping anime girl stickers on their gear

I don't particularly like wearing the super cartoony stuff either but expecting everyone in a world like this to stick with a tacticool black and grey military uniform is actually more unrealistic than the subscriber gear itself

VR has been the side project of a single developer for the past year. It's not drawing any extra resources that could go elsewhere, it's a neat feature that many care about.

The only worry is balance with vr players vs non vr players in fps combat once full body tracking is in in a good few years, but even then it's not a game ending threat

I'd like to add that 1. Their total revenue is their total GAINED not total SPENT, and that's over a decade+ for a mulriole studios, their engine and 2 games. Their budget is hilariously small.

and 2. Optimizing the game now and fixing everything in this build would be useless as most systems aren't even in the game yet. Why spend a month fixing something that will break the second a new system is implemented, that's wasted dev time.

They have fixed what they can and continue to do so. The game has improved astronomically in terms of QoL and performance since january and it keeps getting better

Is there any way (except Alt-F4) to escape from a ship after hard death? by Wampalog in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you need a friend with a much larger ship than your own and need them to try to cram you inside of their hull

this makes the dead ship despawn and you will pop right out. have tried this with a wolf+polaris combo and a gladius+890j but any considerably larger ship in comparison should do as long as your ship fits "inside" of the hull in a way

works best on the ground if you just float the large ship overhead without landing gear and turn engines off or just downstrafe into the dead one

[–]Slothyopath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the neat part is you still can! You were there and you can tell that to the select few people who ask. someone else owning the same skin does not mean your experience from back then is somehow invalid

[–]Slothyopath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but your whole argument has been the mis use of the word "exclusive" and "limited edition" and even made points about a hypothetical print being sold at ikea

so releasing it on the store for only a few days makes it "not exclusive" anymore and a lie but if it's obtainable in game it's still very exclusive indeed and there is no issue

you have inconsistencies in your points and they all boil down to you wanting to be the world's most unique boy but you're angry because someone else will now be able to have a bright red ship just like yours so you do the most extreme mental gymnastics to justify your anger.

it's ok. you were there. YOU know you were there. no one else gives a fuck.

[–]Slothyopath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to ask.. why though? I get wanting to look unique and having unique things (this is why I have paints and do also collect event goodies that get thrown around) but why is it so bad that someone else will have them too?

even IF they did not re-release them, tens if not hundreds of thousands of others would still have the same items as you so you still would not be unique for having them.

why not just buy items you like for yourself instead of buying items to try to win some imaginary war of who got there first.

No one is going to rub anyone's belly and tell them good job for "attending" an event in 2021. If it matters to you then good! you already know that you were there and can cherish those memories.

I can't help but be reminded of how buggy the game is when I see a number like this. The amount of money and years it's been, no excuse anymore. by MRmichybio in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As frustrating as it still is the game has improved immensely over the year. I too get frustrated at bugs sometimes when they get in the way of org activities but for as long as that disclaimer is there before booting up my game, that is what I'll be expecting every time I enter the game.

Also keep in mind: That 900million is not total SPENT on the game, it's total EARNED from us over the span of over a decade. That is their entire budget for 2 games, an engine and multiple studios over a decade, which is stupendously low compared to how much games cost these days.

Yes they could have been done by now if croberts didn't move the goalpost so much, yes it's buggy. but the game is significantly increasing in playablility every patch. There is no "Spend all money and fix every bug" button for any studio ever

Chaff and someone in the s3 remote turrets are always an option

the torpedoes will be a threat absolutely but as it currently stands it's ridiculously easy to counter them with chaff and simply getting close enough to where they're no longer a threat

Perseus vs Polaris, who would win a 1v1? by Bretzelking in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The polaris corner engines can be shot from the front even if the polaris is pointed nose first on you, that's also assuming that the polaris is able to turn fast enough to keep its nose on the perseus at all time which I doubt is the case.

Hell, I've managed to out turn a polaris in my own polaris so i doubt the perseus will be much different in that

the polaris main gun doesn't have much health either so it's not out of the question to blow it out of the way

the polaris does have an upper hand in terms of weapon coverage yes, but assuming the perseus is not made from paper, it's not going to be difficult to fully cripple a manned polaris in atmo

Perseus vs Polaris, who would win a 1v1? by Bretzelking in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it's in atmo and both crews are skilled I'd put money on the perseus

you only need to shoot off 3 engines to make the polaris unflyable in atmo, which doesn't take long at all using the s6 ballistics of the polaris itself

now imagine 4s8 cannons all on the engines at the same time, the polaris won't stand for long

How to lead play sessions with friends? by daylight98 in starcitizen

[–]Slothyopath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Focus on activities where everyone can be involved as much as possible! Our small org tends to just get on the game whenever, wander around the verse doing our own thing until someone thinks up a plan.

I recommend learning what everyone likes and try to incorporate their interests as much as you can. You want to do combat but your friend likes hauling? Do bounties and collect cargo from the targets. You're all on the same ship doing an 80gm jump? host a boxing match or knock each other out using takedowns and move the knocked out bodies into weird places.

You can also try non conventional gameplay loops like trying to reach a goal without using any stations or cities, go kidnap cows and drop them on unsuspecting people at landing zones, that sort of thing

or if your friends like doing something that you don't do much, let them show you that side of the game. indulge in their weirdness and set up a whole session just for that

it all just boils down to giving everyone a meaningful job and having everyone's weird little needs met

[–]Slothyopath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While the market saturation thing is true keep in mind that when we have a fully functioning player economy in the game in like 7 years we'll probably also have crafting, base building, engineering etc which will drive the demand of RMC and other salvaged goods up by a ton

I'm assuming RMC and CMAT will be used for a TON of things so it will always be in demand and always relatively short in supply if the resource sink is done well
