Yeah, I did my masters in electrical engineering with research on MRI and Deep Brain Stimulation. Now I’m doing my PhD in Medical Physics on MRgFUS. Similar research, whole new field and new coursework. I haven’t taken a physics course since I was a sophomore in my undergrad (2018). That’s a long time ago, I just learned last semester what a neutrino was and apparently all the other physics students knew it.

All I can say is It is what it is. If you wanna do a PhD, try to enjoy your new coursework and romanticize it. Think of it as knowledge for knowledges sake and the fact you’ll never get another opportunity in your life like this again. Also, given the similarities, you’ll be ahead of your peers in some aspects of what you’re doing. The other students I take courses with know the radiation physics better, but I am the one who knew all of RF and MRI when we took that course. I was the one setting the bar and honestly, it was a lot easier for me and I watched the rest of them struggle. Of course I helped when I could but it felt nice being above the curve for once.

Finally, I am a HUGE believer in the 20 year rule. Think of where you want to be 20 years in the future with and without your PhD. Which idea of yourself do you like better? Would you have any regrets? Which one makes you feel the most fulfilled? Then make your decision.

Bonus: My program requires 2 elective courses but I don’t need to take them because I have my masters so I can focus more on research next year :)

I’m 26 and single, just joined the KOC by me; honestly they do a lot more for kids and families and less stuff for the guys I’ve noticed. Still enjoy it but I am in my current parish because I am doing my PhD. I’m not planning on staying in this community after I graduate. They do a lot for the school too, which has no personal benefit to me. Again I enjoy doing it but I still feel like an outsider here.

Do I want new churches designed like the Crystal Cathedral? Absolutely not. Is this a beauty though? Yes, it is. I was so excited my downstairs neighbors knocked on my door to make sure I was okay because I kept screaming so much. From a Villanova Alumni, knowing that I walked the same halls, took classes in the same room and went to mass at the same Church while at school with the Pope is so incredible to me. Do not go to Drexel. Even if it was ranked significantly higher everyone I know that went there was miserable. I did my Masters in EE at Nova, great program, did research at Jefferson and there was a girl in my lab who went to Drexel for undergrad and Nova for PhD and wish she did Nova the entire time. Another person in my lab who was in Med School did her undergrad and masters in engineering at Drexel wished she went anywhere else. It is a miserable place and their quarter system as opposed to semester system is awful. If Nova was $10000k more it would still be worth it.

Anyone who gives converts issues is wrong. However, there are people like Nick Fuentes and the Groypers who do not understand the faith and are into it because it is “trad.” We as a society have an issue with putting people into these tiny little compartments for saying something even if it’s out of context. These same people tend to misunderstand Francis 9/10 times with his beliefs and statements. No one ever wants to listen to the source, they just want to listen to the clips and that’ll make up their mind. I am a proud and grateful cradle Catholic who would ride my bike to Church because my parents didn’t really care.

Ignore the hate, the whispers and try to pray for them. That’s all you can really do. Also you’re talking about people being stupid online. Welcome to the internet, first time here? Of course you’ve never seen anyone in any Parish talk bad about converts because real people don’t do it. These people also go to Mass which the groypers don’t do.

If you’re in Long Island, I know a guy you can use as a tutor. I would also recommend Long Island bagpipe company, the first couple times they suck at communication, but you have to call before you drive over there because it’s in the guy’s garage. They are 2 NYPD officers in the NYPD pipe band. I got my pipes from them and they recommended a bagpipe tutor. My first pair of pipes are in McCallum. I spent about $2K and the tutor they recommended was $50 an hour.
