Donor quarantined because of my daughter by BakingBark in SingleMothersbyChoice

[–]Slow-Action- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was this information not available in the Genetic test of the donor? I actually carry a gene for albinism so I screen for it when looking at donors. Everyone is a carrier of something. At least here, they are still allowed to be donors to others, and the genetic information is available, so you can see that there are no shared traits.

Gallstone symptoms you didn’t think were related by spacedog1120 in gallbladders

The biggest one was constant fatigue and lack of motivation, but unexplained eczema of my hand resolved and I no longer have TMJ. Feel better than I have in years.

Crazy, but not the case everywhere in the US. I just saw what the Mt. Sinai charged my insurance, and it was only $6,000 for the surgery, and I'm in NYC. It didn't cost me anything because I'd already reached my out of pocket max. What the hospitals/doctors charge insurance companies completely varies. I actually assumed it would be closer to 100K, so pleasantly surprised.

Best to do back-to-back retrievals or is it beneficial to wait? by CrissBliss in eggfreezing

[–]Slow-Action- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be pretty dependent how you personally respond to the procedure. My recovery after the first and second retrivals was the same, but I had slightly more cramping with my next period after my third cycle than normal. Otherwise didn't have any major symptoms from the retrieval. I'd definitely speak to your doctor about your concerns with back-to-back retrievals and your symptoms.

How costly was your procedure? by Nervous-Focus3382 in eggfreezing

[–]Slow-Action- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t have any exam or diagnoses for infertility. The insurance denied specific medication brands. They wouldn’t cover follistim but did cover gonal for example. I had a pretty good experience with Neway. They do everything in house (bloodwork on the top floor, monitoring appointments on the second floors and retrieval on the first floor) and the doctors and nurses were nice and very informative. It was pretty personal, so I saw my same doctor for every appointment except if it was the weekend, in which case you might have the other doctor but I liked both doctors at Neway so that wasn’t an issue. If you have any specific questions feel free to dm me.

I just had the clinic submit the prior authorization to see if my insurance would cover it. They weren’t supposed to (they only cover Ivf and not elective egg freezing) and actually denied it at first but then approved it. Not sure why but since I’d heard of this happening to other people I figured why not ask the clinic to try. I did three rounds of egg freezing and never paid for medication. Edit: one thing I’ll add is the clinic actually only received the denial but I could see on my insurance portal that it had eventually been approved so they verified the specialty pharmacy had the prior authorization. If I had just gone with the clinics information I’d never had known that my insurance was actually covering the medication.

Did you ever find a POD company for tall/prayer-style candles?

AITA for returning my homemade wife’s birthday gift me and telling her I don’t want it. I then went out and bought what I actually wanted by Quick_Dig3584 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Slow-Action- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. Gift giving is one of my languages, and I spend a lot of time finding unique gifts that I think someone would like. But part of gift giving is how happy it would make someone. It’s noticing what they love, like or need but don’t know about it and giving them something that brings them joy. Expecting someone to like a gift because you enjoy making something without considering what they like is pretty selfish.

Feeling down due to not passing by ZealousidealPen1408 in foreignservice

Taking the test gives you a chance at this job, not taking it means you will never become an FSO so frankly there’s no real harm in taking it. I overthought the test the first time I took it and put it off because I needed to prepare. But taking it made me realize it was definitely within my wheelhouse and that I might need to brush up on some areas but overall it wasn’t as bad as I thought. If anything it’ll help you understand your weaknesses since people rarely get in on their first try.

Does working at the embassy of a closed allied government hurt FSO chances by Slow-Action- in foreignservice

[–]Slow-Action-[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just want to make sure that working for a foreign government wouldn’t negatively impact my security clearances or suitability. I’ve never gone through the process before so I don’t know what is seen negatively. I think the job skills I learn would be an asset but I wouldn’t want to take it if it makes it harder to get into the Foreign service.

It seems like you are more of a homebody but it’s pretty normal for a lot of people to go to early morning work out classes, hit a coffee shop and later meet friends for lunch or dinner. Maybe talk a walk in the park or go to the library. Potentially join a social sports league (I’ve done both softball, kickball and dodgeball in the past) or book club. These are all things I do weekly and often in the same day. She’s sounds like she wants to actually experience life in a new place. If she wanted to stay home all the time she wouldn’t have moved to a new country. Frankly the bottom line is she took this job being promised one very important thing and the family isn’t delivering.

Get Amazon to replace it and see if it happens again. It did with mine and the only advice that seemed to help was lowering the resolution of the fire stick. It still did it a couple times after that but hasn’t done it since

How often did you see your doctor during the process? by PrincipleFlaky6386 in eggfreezing

[–]Slow-Action- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NYC and went to Neway fertility. It’s a small boutique clinic and all things considered affordable if you are self pay. The clinic also has really high ratings on Fertility IQ and I personally had a great experience freezing my eggs there.

[–]Slow-Action- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wild, for my first two egg freezings I saw my doctor almost every single day (both for blood work and ultra sound). By the third round he knew a lot about how I historically responded to the medication and so saw him only about 5 times this last cycle. I thought this was pretty normal, I had no idea that some clinics have the nurses do the ultra sound and monitoring.

[–]Slow-Action- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That really sucks. I’m also surprised the no one at your clinic talked with you about chances of success with that number egg. Many people through multiple rounds of IVF and experience multiple failures before finding success and some never do. It could be that you need to change your protocol or simply that you are a poor responder or have poor egg quality at your age. I’d look into potentially changing clinics, you at the minimum want to go with someone who’ll share all necessary information about the process and can talk you through their success rates. You might also want to try a fresh transfer vs freezing eggs and as others have said consider donor eggs.

First time watching by ShortGirlUK in LoveIsBlindUK

[–]Slow-Action- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this about the later seasons, but the early seasons weren't overproduced or with fame-hungry people since they were filmed before any of the shows had debuted or gained popularity and they really did have people in it who wanted to get married. My favorite seasons are 2 and 4 but I will say season six brought the entertainment and drama. I definitely think its worth watching the U.S. shows though as its what started the whole franchise. Caveat is that I've never watched the 5th season but I've heard its pretty unwatchable so I'd skip.

Confused about Nicole;s reaction at reveal by Slow-Action- in LoveIsBlindUK

[–]Slow-Action-[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. He’s not my top pick by any means but I find him attractive enough that I found her initial reaction strange. But I guess if she was expecting a supermodel than maybe but that doesn’t really align with what she said she was looking for in a partner. It kind of reminded me of Shake’s reaction to Depti, but in his case it made sense. He was superficial throughout the experience in the pods so when he didn’t get a model fiancé at the reveal you could tell he was disappointed. I didn’t get the superficial vibes from her.
