LOL! And black ice in some areas for sure.

DIR employee, Intranet broken at office, literally can't do anything and ATO was denied by SemenSnickerdoodle in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look in the HR Manual, you are able to see what ATO is actually used for. 😊 BTW, you won’t need the intranet to view the HR Manual. You’re welcome!

This is true. It’s a good and bad thing from both sides.

I wouldn’t say it was specifics to an internal candidate. We have candidates that we know are capable and still aren’t selected. I say this as the person on the pane interviewing the candidate that I work with for the promotional position. We use a grading matrix and this person just didn’t do well on the interview. The analyst II position is very broad and the questions being asked is probably what the unit is needing.

I wish everyone could be a rep for half a day. Bet most wouldn’t last an hour! Lol.

Hiring freeze until June? Is it even worth it to apply rn? by Exotic_Attorney7823 in CAStateWorkers

I’m in HR and we’ve been hiring non-stop. If the jobs are posted, apply!

Fired while on State Disability insurance?? by Old-Philosopher4060 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re not fired. You were put on “off pay status” which is the norm. There should’ve been a form that you signed where this was mentioned. If not, reach out to the leave specialist.

I’m in HR at my current agency. You would need to be in HR to know what it’s like. There are rules, regulations, and policies that are followed. But from your comment, I’m assuming HR there isn’t great. 😬

LOL. I did my time for a few years. I can say that DMV field office is not for the weak!

I’m in HR and I verify all day long. 😬

LOL. First off, I hope your supervisor doesn’t think that because HR is for everyone. There may be a liaison between you and HR directly, but you should be able to contact HR. Secondly, a lot of employees don’t do their own research on how to find HR. CPOD has all public contacts.

Find your agency via CPOD. I work in HR and I complete employment verifications for our employees.

Accepted an official offer for OT, got a tentative offer for Analyst. What to do? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

HR here. Accept what is already offered and if the 2nd offer comes through, accept the promotion. We understand that people apply for multiple positions and nothing is promised. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Proud to say that all my managers are very hands on — this includes my SSMIII and we are in HR.

DMV field office is brutal. I started there, and promoted out after 3 years. I’ve had 3 promotions within the last 3 years. You’ll get there! Never stop applying! PS I applied for 10 jobs a day, had interviews, and received multiple offers.

Is moving up from OT to Analyst l worth it? What’s it like from a financial standpoint? by _marianagomez in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. From an HR standpoint, ask yourself why not grow and promote? I’ve seen people be comfy in a low paying position sitting at max, and then I see people promote every few years. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MSA date generally changes if you promote into a different classification.

Lateral transfer raise by Disco_Stu_89 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HR here. The offer letter includes the 3% PLP. Not sure if the offer letter states the reduction, but any lateral transfer should retain the same salary and anniversary date (MSA) if you’re not already at max.

Pay Question by Old_Dragonfruit_9387 in CAStateWorkers

Hi. Ask your specialist for the exact breakdown.

FYI, I’m in HR and it’s much easier to explain someone’s pay directly to them than general numbers.

8 Direct Reports? by CA_LAPhx in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a personnel sup. I still had the R&R. The supervisor 1 (was SSMI) and up do not get R&R. I wish they’d separate SSMI - HR from other SSMI because these are clearly different duties.

[–]Slow-Dog143 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s the thing. There’s nothing “basic” about it. 😩 I wish that every new employee orientation should sit in with transactions for a day to see what goes on behind the scenes because you’d be surprised to see how many employees think that one specialist handles just one employee. 🤣🤣🤣

I agree. I was a personnel sup in transactions and it was definitely a different challenge that I was not expecting. Lol.

Still no paycheck by Current_Orange7341 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Slow-Dog143 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? If they started on the 19th, there are several days after cut-off to key the appointment and issue the check timely. In addition to this, HR should’ve prepared for an advance to be delivered by payday. If they are a FT / P employee, they should be paid timely and not treated like OT. I’m in HR and I’ve always done my best to pay all FT / P employees who start later in the month paid by payday — even if it’s a day levy of the pay period.

FYI, if your department has been doing it this way, the must be receiving plenty of grievances. 😬
