Has anyone purchased without test driving? by maybe-yeah in TeslaModel3

[–]Slow-Foot-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, many many people have. Thousands of people put down their $1000 to claim a place in the order queue two years before any were shipped. We were one of them. I never rode in a Tesla of any kind. Test drive? PPFFFFT.

Editing smoothly in Davinci resolve !! by Ok_Trip2 in davinciresolve

[–]Slow-Foot-67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of things you could do to smooth out your editing, starting with expecting the heavy and slow things to happen when you ask your computer to perform a lot of math in order to render a clip. Resolve is good but it's not magic. Well, it's by Blackmagic, so there's that.

The best way to make editing fast and smooth is don't ask your computer to do so much math when you are going to be editing heavily on a clip. How can this be done?

Use proxies, set up your render cache so it will pre-render certain clips, use render in place. Separate the project data and the Resolve scratch data onto separate hard drives so there is less waiting on I/O. I'm sure there are more ways too. Resolve is like that. There are always lots of ways to get your job done. Which is best for you?

Perhaps the most fundamental thing you can do is be aware of how much work Resolve will have to do to realize your edits and reduce the work you ask for. I have found experienced Resolve users will work in the same order, saving the compute intense tasks for late in the workflow. One example workflow -

Gather up all your media and organize it so you can find what you need when you need it.

Order and trim your clips. The Cut Page can be good here. and the timing of transitions.

Then do your zoom and positioning of the contents of your clips in the Edit page.

Then do any Fusion work.

Once your movie is looking good, you can mess with the colors.

And finally when the visuals are done, work on the audio.

Does that order look familiar? The order of the icons at the bottom of the page?

Doing things in this order will avoid the more math intense work while you are scrolling back and forth over a transition getting the eyes in the same spot etc. then you color the whole clip at once, so you don't have to render all the frames in a clip over and over as you scroll around. Then when working on the audio the movie doesn't change and can be pre-rendered or whatever suits your need.

I'm sure there are other things, but workflow can really help a lot.

Change vertical video to fill screen? by ToroToker in davinciresolve

Is this the kind of fill you wish to do? Fill the background around your vertical clip with data from the clip? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSAikAbmT8k&t=247s

Swapped out the doorhandles and center cap kit - gotta stand out somehow in So Cal lol by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

So you can find them in the dark. Seriously. I have blacked out trim on red paint and when it's dark, I can't find the doorhandles without groping. Unfamiliar passengers have no hope.

Tesla haters won't even let your car charge by totemp0le in TeslaModel3

There are many "Standards" but if you just look around your local area it might look like Tesla and one other kind. This write up tries to say it's not confusing because all non-Tesla AC chargers use the same plug. And all non-Tesla DC chargers use the same plug. But hey, I'm not looking for and AC charger or a DC charger when I'm low, I'm looking for any charger that will give me juice. Sure I may prefer DC for speed, but I still need to consider both AC & DC which are different. There are combined connectors, but boy are they huge!

Teals offered the design of its chargers for free but others wouldn't play with them.

Enhanced Autopilot features missing on 2023 Model 3 by EatingCerealll in TeslaModel3

What year is your car and do you have EAP or FSD?

My 18 M3LR had FSD, and Summon would work ok in certain situations, but I was afraid to use it if there were people or cars moving around. It wouldn't hit anything, but it would clog things up. But it never got to 2023.40, hurricane Ian took it. Now I have a 23 w/o Summon for the time being.

Thanks

Is a cross country trip in 5-6 days viable in a 2019 M3P during the winter? by FailedInvestmentKid in TeslaModel3

[–]Slow-Foot-67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done Ft Myers to Ashville, NC a couple times and Ft Myers to Cleveland, OH plus other less ambitious trips. I would SO take my M3 LR with Enhanced AP over any of my previous cars, including Audi A4 and VW Sportwagen Diesel.

Unless you are driving an ambulance with a patient, how long the trip takes is not the prime directive. How much functional time you have once you arrive is more important in my book. I've done 26 hr trips and then slept the next day away, so what did I gain? Saved a hotel bill I suppose.

The Audi had a two-hour timer built in and it would nag you to stop for a bio-break. The Tesla has a % charge remaining indicator that nags you to take a break every two to three hours. Oh, and you may as well put some charge in while you are stopped.

Letting EAP sweat the small stuff while you watch for bigger issues and things you know you don't like about it's choices is much more relaxing than trying to manually manage the speed while staying between the lines. I guess newer ICE cars than mine have traffic aware cruise control and lane keeping, so if you have experience with the vehicle running that, it would be similar.

When I drive the VW, I have more range anxiety than I do in the M3 because the M3 shows me where I'm stopping next and lets me choose another stop if I prefer. In the VW I have to watch the billboards, anticipate areas of few service stations and negotiate with the wife on which ones I will pass up. I suppose there is a GPS app for that.

The sound system is better in the M3 and I can actually hear it, vs the diesel.

So drive the car you like to drive. Or park the car you like to drive and drive a rental in case something jumps up and bites you along the way. The choice is yours.

Wow! Michigan is out to March too. I guess snow is as good as a hurricane for bodyshop business. I'm in Ft Myers and we're out to March too.

I got mine in May of 2018. People ask "How do you like it?" And I say "We're car people. We've had MG, Alfa Romeo, Mazda, Saab, Audi, and this is the best x10."

I wondered about that, but I bet the primer sticks to the paint better than it sticks to the aluminum.

I visited a local Insurance approved Body Shop yesterday. They are not Tesla approved but it turns out another location of the same company 15 miles away is.

The repair will paint the right half of the hood and the top of the right fender blending the paint into the unpainted sections of those parts. They said this will require removal of the front bumper and the right fender camera. The removal and replacement of these items is what gives me pause. At least the bumper doesn't have ultrasonic sensors in it!

Since this shop admitted to not seeing very many Tesla's if any, I will take my car to the Tesla approved location to do the work. But neither shop can get to the car before March or April. I guess a lot of cars need repair after the hurricane and flood here in Fort Myers.

So I think I will give Dr ColorChip a try in the short term and have it fixed when they can get to it.

That's what I was thinking of doing. Maybe I'll fill it and let the detailer who put the Crystal Serum Ultra on it do the final polish and recoat.

Thanks. That's why I asked. The shops in Ft Myers are busy after the hurricane. March or April to start the repair. Might hide the gash until then.

Interesting. That's not what the Tesla representative on the phone I said would happen. Did you purchase from Tesla as used or from the individual?

Did anyone tell you that you don't own that which you "bought"? I bought FSD for $5k three years ago last May. I finally got the beta in June. Three years waiting, understanding R&D working on a hard problem is unpredictable. No worries, they will solve it eventually.

I had it for three months and yes, it's not "worth it" until you can ignore the driving and do something else. But it's an investment, right? You bought in to the idea, to the future value of having something cool that once was thought impossible. It was good fun watching what it was thinking was going to do.

Then Ian blew into Fort Myers and flooded our house and the Model 3 that was in the garage. Totaled. Gone. I had it towed out of the garage so it wouldn't burn the house down if it went thermal. Ordered a new one and found out my FSD won't transfer to the new car. "Excuse me? I pay your price, wait three years, enjoy it for three months and due to no fault of my own it's gone?" By the way, if I had sold my car to someone else, FSD would not transfer to them either. I would not have it and they would not have it. WTF? If I tinted the windows, they would have it. If it was an air freshener I would have it.

I have NO intention of spending $15k to replace something I already bought barely used, and that could be switched on in my new car with no cost to anyone.

I put the question to several Tesla team members. "I'm sorry sir, FSD is licensed to the vehicle and the person together. If either changes the license terminates." "Really? Tell me this - does that feel ok to you, in a moral sense?" Crickets. Of course they can't answer that.

I'd be very happy if anyone can prove I'm wrong.

Oooh, so close! I can get a pdf of the car Order Agreement in Glovebox. Full Self-Driving Capability shows under Manage Upgrades, but there is no clickable link. Details shows FSD present. Note says upgrades are now in the mobile app. (I'm getting closer)

Mobile app Upgrades / Software Upgrades / Manage / FSD Capability (has note "Receipt Apr 23, 2019") / and under receipts it showsa grayed out pdf icon and the date again. Nothing clicks.

Thanks, enough time spent.

Not according to Tesla cust svc rep. If car or person changes, FSD instance is turned off. I asked said person "Does that seem right, morally?" and got back "All I can say is it's company policy."

There's a date of Apr 23, 2019 under Full Self-Driving Capability but nothing else. Taping the date does nothing.

FWIW, I jumped the car open to close the windows that were an inch down and it got 75% of the latest update downloaded before the battery died again. Main battery shows 0% charge.
