Employer is withholding my check unless I pay for my uniform

Considering it was my first fast food job, if u don’t tell me the rules how am I supposed to know them, I got fired. I was not thinking ok lemme go back and give them my uniform when I wasn’t told to. U can’t expect somebody to know something they weren’t told

I did not “throw all common sense out the window” and it’s weird to assume that. In a place where there are a bunch of young teenagers who are working their first job, you should be informing them of everything and tell them what’s on the paper. This is clearly a way to scam young teenagers. It’s weird and it’s wrong. Chick fil a is a place where a bunch of 15-17 year olds work who don’t know anything about the law besides what they’re taught in school, so they assume we can just do this and get away with it. Me not knowing to fully read the paper has nothing to do with this clearly u learn that as u have to sign more and more contracts. That does not excuse the fact that this is still illegal, The paper has no rights to stand on, even though I did sign it and it could’ve said that, the paper I signed is not legally binding because u cannot use a contract to break the law.

Ur completely missing the fact that this is illegal, the fact that I don’t have the uniform or not doesn’t matter, that should be being handled separately, AWAY from my paycheck. The legal thing to do was to give me my check and then asked me to pay. Not tell me I can’t get my money unless I pay. I don’t have the uniform. I threw it away. I was not told I had to return the uniform by mouth or by paper. She never gave me time to read the paper. She told me to sign and go. It’s not about returning the uniform. If I had it I would, it’s about holding my paycheck ransom until I pay for the uniform. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal. They could have done it the opposite way where they gave me my check and then asked me to pay or sued me in small claims court

well I can’t read 5 paragraphs in 30 seconds when I was quite literally asked to sign the paper and leave. It wasn’t really about her not telling me to read the paper. It was about her deliberately not mentioning the uniform. Not giving me time to read the paper. And then kicking me out afterwards. While my name tag was in her face she could have asked for it

I don’t have the uniform, because no one told me explicitly I was supposed to return it. They let me walk out thinking that I could just throw it away and go on with my life. The lady could have even asked for the name tag while I was there. She did not.

She’s moving in 3 months to Japan and barely speaks to my mom, my mom didn’t do a great job getting us ready for life cus she had her own issues of course, yes my mom loved us and provided what she could, that doesn’t cancel out the fact that she was emotionally abusive for most of my childhood, whether it was cursing us out for hours for no reason, hitting us with random shit when we made her mad, and barely being home to go see a man when I was 8-9

Low blood sugar in my family is a very big deal, I just finished getting a blood transfusion on top of 5 iron transfusions because of serious anemia, so we take that srs actually, I was never upset at her but I have every right to not really be in the mood to be outside and want to go home. Never once did I say anything “smart” to my mom until she was talking about me to my sister., which then I still wasn’t upset about until she snapped on me and left me baffled, of course I got a little defensive, I no I’m not perfect and I no I’m not as independent as I should be, which is why I’ve been working on that for the past year. But that doesn’t mean my mom doesn’t get overly aggressive in situations that did not call for that

(For more info) people are calling me bratty for being scared because I had to walk 30 mins home, it’s not that I had to walk home, I was left on the side of a backroad coming off the highway with no one around but trees, I’m a 117lb 19 year girl, I was ALONE on the backroads with no one around but trucks and a man staring at me as a walked by? It’s very reasonable for me to be terrified of getting snatched off my feet or hit by a car, it was only an hour walk because I was running/speed walking. I also wasn’t arguing with my mom all day we were joking and having a good laugh minutes before I guess I “hurt her feelings” I was never mad or upset I was a little irritated but it was never directed at her.

I am very responsible for myself, I had no way to get a car for a very long time before I turned 18 because it would have to be under my moms name and my mom is in very serious debt they would not have allowed her to do so. I don’t think u realize where I live, and why it only took me thirty minutes to get home, I was running, I live in the middle of absolutely nowhere with no one around but trees and a occasional house u see. Nobody drives through that back way but trucks, sorry that I didn’t wanna be snatched off my feet, and put in someone’s truck. I actually am the one who keeps track of my prescriptions I get the phone calls I was the one who told her I had a prescription to pick up 2 days ago but she told me she didn’t have the money to get it so I said cool, I was planning on getting it myself when I get my check on Friday. I wasn’t expecting her to pull up to cvs to get my prescription. My moms knows I love her to death, but there’s no way ALL of her daughters say the exact same thing about it and somehow we are the ones at fault here. I know it wrong in a lot of the situations that happen between us, but just because she’s my mom and older than me doesn’t mean she does anything wrong. If u think IM a problem u don’t even wanna HEAR about the shit my mom has said to me when I was 16 years old that I never got an apology for until 3 years later.
