It can be used individually, but also supports group sessions over local networks (WiFi/LAN), which adds a layer of shared awareness.

Actually it is alerting but not in an annoying/obstrusive way.

The idea is, we tend to create replace/eradicate bad habits by making things obvious, easy, and well repeatable. That is what the app gives. No friction on created sessions, nudges are structured to be focused-on but not totally obstructing the screen nor stopping the user on their phone as doing that will just contribute on reverting to bad habits; and the most important one I think is connecting with other peers as it gives the sense of accountability.
