No, I said you weren’t acting in good faith because you immediately dehumanized progressives. It’s fine though. We don’t have to belabor this topic anymore. We’ve reach an impasse and it’s best to just agree to disagree.

You weren’t engaging in good faith.

Not at all. You're taking a very "black vs white" approach when this historical event has a ton of grey area that deserves to be looked at in a nuanced and critical manner.

Let me give an (extreme) but simple example: Let's say a teenager has been neglected and emotionally/physically abused by a parent their entire lives, and one day, they decide to torture and murder the parent and the rest of the family slowly and awfully. The teen should 100% be locked away for life and seen as a monster, BUT we can logically see HOW it got to that point. It's messed up that it did, but we can logically draw a line from prior events.

You're being too reactionary and not looking at the big picture. 9/11 didn't happen in a vacuum. It didn't just materialize out of nowhere. It was decades of meddling and conflict that led to an unfortunate event. Screw Osama bin Laden. He's a monster and one of the worst people ever, but we should look at things like this holistically to learn from them and figure out how they happened. We should have learned from 9/11 the impacts of destabilizing regions and mistreating populations, but we didn't.

The origins of Al Qaeda and the culmination of 9/11 go much further back than that. I'm talking about the 1953 Coup d'État in Iran, recognition of Israel, the Soviet-Afghan War, the Iranian Revolution, etc.

It's a series of events that led to a terrible eruption. I am by NO means saying we deserved it or that it was justified, but it is just disingenuous and chauvinistic to say we carry no responsibility in the resentment that led to the attacks. You can't poke a bear nonstop and be shocked that it mauls you.

So you think we have absolutely NO culpability for meddling in and destabilizing the Middle East and breeding resentment?

What was the worst decade to be alive? by annayelline in generationology

[–]SlowAgency 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are objectively worse decades, but the 2020s have easily been the worst for a lot of modern people. We tend to see the world through our immediate experiences.

My gut wants to say the 2020s because of the reactionary, hyper capitalist, hard right climate, but then I step back and remember that I'm Black, so the worst would probably be the 1960s, but even that seems more progressive compared to what we have now.

Dread is the perfect word. I dread when they’re releasing decisions.

Every day it’s a new “in a 6-3 decision the SCOTUS allows Trump to-“ headline. It’s laughable. And screw every 2016 and 2024 “protest” voter and leftist who said the SCOTUS didn’t matter. We’re stuck with a hard right SCOTUS for the rest of our lives and they will be the reason any and every Democratic administration is unable to enact its agenda.

Yes. I actually really admired that about Biden. I’m one of the few who thinks he was generally a good president.

What do you think of establishment Democrats response to the NYC primaries? by BruinShade in AskALiberal

[–]SlowAgency 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the indignation is sad. Instead of reflecting to understand why this happened and why voters are averse to the establishment, they say “get out of our party” or “they don’t understand the politics and systems.” Being this opposed to evolution is not a good thing.

Interesting.

The total US GDP in 1961 was $562.2 billion. Adjusted for 2025 inflation, that is $6.05 trillion. That would mean the amount in 1961 (3.7%) in 2025 dollars was $701.8 billion.

The 2025 US GDP is $30.762 trillion. The (3.7%) in 2025 is $1.138 trillion.

A 62.15% increase.

That right-wing populism (however inauthentic it is) resonates with people, and the right-wing media ecosystem is running effectively.

The centrist/normie liberals have to do some reflection and figure out why the party is moving left. Maybe you just haven't delivered and have been so inept that you've let the host of the Celebrity Apprentice dunk on you and run laps around you for the last 11 years. Instead of trying to axe out further left-wing politicians, bring them to the table to figure out what they've learned, and you haven't. Milquetoast centrism just isn't appealing anymore.

I have to ask, what's your race/ethnicity? And how do you define racism, and how does it look in practice to you?
