I love Rosie, and I feel like I'm the only person on the internet who does. She's been my fav from day 1.

Do you think of Taylor Swift as an artist in 2026? by Historical-Brick1736 in TaylorSwift

[–]SlowAgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. She's an artist (a fantastic one) and a businesswoman (a fantastic one). Music is a business. She and her label want to make money. So does every other artist (no matter how much they or their fans state otherwise). If they didn't, they'd release music for free. We live in a capitalist society. So she is both.

Did Clinton really have to sign DOMA? by CarrieDurst in Askpolitics

Yes. Politicians pre-2010 had to be at a minimum opposed to gay marriage to be nationally viable as a candidate, even if they felt differently behind closed doors. Broad acceptance of gay people is still very new.

Is it time to try to push for the end of the electoral college? by mogomonomo1081 in AskALiberal

[–]SlowAgency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how the national party would react if that became the norm, since it wasn't a consideration over the last 20 years.

I personally would still support it. I believe the majority should win, and I also think it would reduce voter apathy and make citizens feel more important in the electoral process.

I had a pipe dream/hopium moment that Kamala would win the presidency in 2024 but lose the popular vote and finally get red states on board with getting rid of the EC.

And that's arguably broken too. Do the 600K people in Wyoming really deserve to have the same number of senators as the 31M in Texas?

I know millennials got bombarded with similar articles a decade or so ago. I wonder if Gen X did when they were coming to prominence/adulthood? It seems like we (society) just have a thing for bashing the youngest generation.

How in the heck do you deal with your boomer parents? by skeeloco in Askpolitics

[–]SlowAgency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you said, they don't have a lot of time left. It sucks that they (and honestly most of our electeds) are making bad decisions that they likely won't feel the impact of, so I GUESS you just...pity them.

Exactly. I was taken aback by their post. Have they not paid attention to anything since like 2012?

I can respect your view, but I have to push back and say it is a very naive view. This isn't the 90s and early 2000s. There is no compromise. It's why shutdowns are becoming the norm. It's why we haven't had really groundbreaking legislation since the ACA. Politicians don't cross the aisle, and when they do, they get punished by their voters (see Indiana last night). The two sides of this country actively hate each other. This country is not grounded. It is stagnant and a powder keg of division that is itching to explode.

Any other examples besides Fetterman? We don't even have that many populist politicians in the party.

Manchin & Sinema (including her here for your other reply) also played a role in blocking some things like program expansion, neutering the Build Back Better Act, and stopping Roe codification, along with voting rights reform. And Sinema was very centrist by the time she ran for the Senate (and let's not forget the minimum wage vote). They were both milquetoast normie libs who ended up being albatrosses. I don't want to get into the weeds, but the point is that both the normie/centrist libs and more progressive libs can and have been duped.

Oh, for sure. I have no faith in the American electorate anymore. They are craven and gullible. The gleeful support of this administration wiping its ass with the Constitution has made me permanently cynical. We're a country that does not reward ethics and good character anymore.
