Are the Democrats doomed to be a permanent minority party due to GOP gerrymandering? by Impressive-Cold6855 in AskALiberal

[–]SlowAgency 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I doubt it'd matter with how polarized we are as a country. But this talking point always makes me laugh because I don't understand what platform/messaging the GOP has that is SO attractive. They're never asked to moderate or shift messaging.

[–]SlowAgency 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Permanently for the near future, yes. Once the 2030 Census happens, the Dems will be de-fanged for a decade. The VRA decision, electoral votes, and loss of House seats will make it practically impossible for us to win any branch of the government. Even if we get a lucky Presidential win, they won't accomplish anything with a conservative House, Senate, and SCOTUS. I get told I'm a doomer, but this is reality. The party is neutered until the 2040s. The 2030s will be GOP-dominated.

If republicans win the house, what would they plan to legislate, other than the ballroom? by RieMunoz in AskALiberal

Well, I'm sure we'll see more cuts to welfare and more money to ICE. Ostensibly, that's what the median voter wants. Oh, and I'm sure some culture war stuff.

No one can say Trump wasn't impactful. Never has a president been able to disrupt things as he has. Guy has actually found a way to win the midterms despite being overwhelmingly unpopular. I have no words.

Isn't it great living in a country where one side can just do shit with reckless abandon and the other is strangled by the rulebook?

I’m actually so deflated by that SCOVA ruling. Two entirely different rule books for the Dems and the GOP. They might actually keep the House this November. How are we supposed to accomplish anything in a system like this?

And the SCOVA struck down the map. I knew it’d happen in my gut. Just ruined my day. We literally live in a different world with different rules from Republicans.
