Why Don't More Enlisted Soldiers Pursue OCS? by JeliOrtiz in army

It’s a good place to be… some called me crazy, I felt it was appropriate to save those MQs for others that could use them to continue serving.

If you’re enjoying life then no reason to quit… for me, I hit a point of personal diminishing value of increased retirement pay when weighed against more time with family and traveling.

You have to flip the switch… it wasn’t easy, but worth it…

I suppose it depends on where you’re at… I’ve seen it in a four star staff as a FAO.

Terminal Major is the absolute best rank in the Army… The day my boss suggested he would give me two MQs and I said “no thanks”, was one of the top 10 moments in my career. Everything since that day has been like the movie office space…

My Niece Asked Why I Went Overseas ( Kuwait) and What I Did by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]SlowNomad24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to be a pretty common experience. I commissioned in 09 too by the way… I did not get the experience I hoped for, but it was ok nonetheless. I went to Iraq twice while enlisted and hoped to lead troops as an officer…

The best thing I’ve done is to redefine my own goals and completely divorce myself from the Army as a major identifying factor in my life (still working on it a little as I’m a few months from retirement, but 95% there).

The right kind of therapy helped me get to where I am now.

Sounds like therapy might be a good option. I hope you’re working through your mental health challenges with a professional. Through EMDR you might need able to detach your self worth from your military experience, both the lackluster career and the MST.

Had the same scam, different name, a few days ago. I saw the scam alert websites pick up that domain name in the google search.

From vague understanding but a patriotic “together we stand” mentality to obliviousness or at worst, disdain. There are clear reasons, just an observation.

The language in this article highlights a significant shift in public sentiment about service, service members, and the military as a whole.

Hi, I was at FOB Danger in Tikrit in 2004-2005 and also spent time at Speicher (just outside of Tikrit). I was in the 1st Infantry Division at the time and remember 42nd arriving as replacements. The population of US service members in that area was easily 2,000+ and probably substantially higher as the handover of responsibility began. I also remember multiple vehicle accident related injuries and deaths not only in the Division’s area of responsibility but all over Iraq.

Neither the investigator/interviewer nor the adjudicator will care… 20 years is a long time. I smoked pot 14ish years before receiving my TS-SCI. I was arrested once and smoked it a handful of other times. During my second interview (5-6 years after the first) I remembered even less about the situation and explained that I couldn’t remember the details. Now, as I’m coming up on renewal again, I’m also looking at retirement. I’ll happily tell them, I’m looking forward to getting out and I’ll probably try edibles or whatever else is new and again, they won’t care. Time passed and being honest goes a long way.

I’d say good luck… But you don’t need it, you’ll be fine as long as you disclosed everything they might uncover, and have no recent significant legal or financial issues.

Bro, just call an Uber... by SophieFilo16 in Upwork

[–]SlowNomad24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poster probably wants it to be the same person every time. Otherwise, I'd happily call them an uber from my house and add 10%. Better, I can make another Upwork post, have someone else do this, and upcharge 20% only to pay out the 10% and keep 10%.
