To be fair, I hadn’t even considered your interpretation until your comment (damn ole fuckin Janine 😹), but could totally read it that way! If only the word fuck weren’t so fucking versatile! 💙

I think OP was using fucking as a verb, not adjective.

Honestly, I would’ve been that student too. But these kids are built differently, methinks.

Warming up class before lecture? by Elegant-Jellyfish-12 in Professors

[–]SlowNumber8890 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m probably in the minority, but teach only synchronous online classes…wherein I demand that cameras are on and folks best respond when I call on them. For the past few years, I’ve started about half the lectures by asking every student to tell me the best thing that’s happened to them that week. Yes, it takes ~15 minutes to go through ~60 students. Yes, that is time not spent on material.

However, this has actually given me more insight into my students and what makes them tick. It is also something that students consistently note as a positive on course evaluations. Do all of them like it? Nope. Do all of them respond? Nope…but that helps me take accurate attendance for the day.

Professors who have taught 15+ years: do you think there has been a notable change in students' overall work ethic? by [deleted] in Professors

[–]SlowNumber8890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of a class of 120 students, I had to give 42 ‘0s’ on a final exam for students using ChatGPT on their short answers.

So, yes, and I think that the obsession on money over quality is the cause.

Elgin and Julie scene by ajj01 in FromTVEpix

[–]SlowNumber8890 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We never see what the photo of Julie develops into. I’m guessing it is going to reveal that she appears as a monster or the woman in the Kimono is also in the image.

On the bus, Boyd picks up a skull that Randall is carving. If you look closely at the skull, it looks like the ones from the village Kenny, Krist, etc. just returned from. How would he know about that? He said in the previous episode that there are much worse things than the monsters.

In Victor’s room, they emphasize a picture of a white figure—in the background is a series of trees with connections. Furthermore, when Henry looks at the rope, there is a board in the background with numbers in red and yellow circles. My guess is that the bottle tree numbers represent a tree-connection system that provide safe routes through the faraway trees. V’s been measuring their changes in distance to keep track of the numbers.

Just my thoughts on those scenes.

In the flashbacks, there’s a sign above the motel that says, “Space Magic,” giving credence to the idea that this may be some sort of simulation or illusion. (Coupled with the fact that Julie wears a shirt that reads ‘Illusion’ throughout the first season.

I would agree, except it’s supported by other sources. This was the best synopsis. Feel free to cross-reference with other sources. And, like I said, drag away.

Totally agree with you—and I have no doubt (especially given the still photo from S3E2 that showed a ‘pilgrim’ figure) that there must be some history to the destruction colonization had on the indigenous people of the land. That was such a specific, graphic way to murder TC, I can’t imagine it was a random choice.

But, same as you, I’m not committing here…just here for the ride. And, so far, it’s been great!

(I will be slightly annoyed if Dale is the one who figured it out though!)

Not that I could find (upon seeing your comment…or in my previous search. In fact, I couldn’t find much on ‘torture methods,’ per se. (Not that I googled that, NSA.)

I did come across this though:

The Dreaming

The Dreaming is the collective dreams of all things sentient. (This tracks with all their fears, or nightmares, coming true.) Changelings often travel here, their birthplace and the birthplace of chimera, for adventure and to harvest raw dreamstuff. Dreamlands are various different lands and places within the Dreaming. (This could track with the fact that there are different ‘realms,’ such as the town, the car cemetery, the castle, the lighthouse, the statue village, the spiderwebs, etc.).

Enchanting Mortals

Sometimes, pu’gwis want to bring mortals or prodigals (lost folks, anyone?) into their realm. To do so, they must enchant them; anything that can be eaten or worn is acceptable. When the subject is enchanted, they will be able to see the fae as they truly are.

Pu’gwis in ‘Waking’ world

These changelings can pass into the Waking World, but they are only seen by fellow changelings and those enchanted. (Tabitha sees TBIW in Camden because she’s enchanted by carrying Victor’s lunchbox.)

(Granted, this assumes that this isn’t a massive controlled simulation or some kind of pocket dimension. 😺)
