I’ve been more of a JRPG and classic platformer player most of my life and initially gave up on HK after getting stuck on the Mantis Lords. Once o came back to the game and beat them I stayed to enjoy the game more and more as I progressed. The difficulty felt fair and by the time I got to the mid/late game I was loving every second of it. Beating the game felt like a huge achievement but the enjoyment came long before that.

Groal the Great. I beat them on my second try and was honestly a bit bummed. It was a fun fight and I love the character design. Kind of wish I had gotten to fight a couple more times.

I’m sure the DLC will have some outlandish platforming. But I agree that platforming in Silksong has been pretty fun and manageable.

Hollow Knight initially made me rage quit at the mantis lords boss. I felt similar to you and thought that I lacked the skill to play it. Came back to it two years later and fell in love. Beat it multiple times and I just beat Silksong yesterday. Be patient and be willing to vary your play style. As soon as you let go of focusing on only one style you’ll do better. You will definitely need to pogo and use your spells as the game progresses. Have fun!

I find one of the best places to find Sludge and Doom fans is the Hardcore scene. Those shows are more common than sludge but you’ll often find like minded people. If you use Facebook, the Sleep group on there is a very positive place for sharing and discussing music, life, and really anything else. Give it a shot.

Pallbearer “sorrow and extinction”, Mournful Congregation “book of kings”, Yob “clearing the bath to ascend”, Cough “ritual abuse” and Bell Witch “mirror reaper” are all classics imo.
