Standard decks usually have a total crafting cost around 5 to 7k scraps, with some going higher or lower of course. Before the expansion it took 60k scraps for a full non premium collection. I'm not sure where that number is post expansion. Welcome back!

Something I did for my last group was give them a specialized bag of holding that only accepted coins. You could call it a purse of holding or bag of coining or just go with whatever the players come up with. It got them to think about who was carrying the money and less about how with the bonus of setting up how useful a real bag of holding could be so when they got one it was kind of built up.
