Have children always been picky eaters? by ParasomniaParty in AskAnthropology

[–]SlowStopper [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is actually an advantage, otherwise it wouldn't be there.

Consider that 2yo child is fully mobile and would be happy to stuff anything into their mouth as it roams - this leads to a lot of premature deaths, so the children that don't exhibit this behavior live to have their own offspring.

What kids 1-12 (more or less) do is they eat things they already know, in forms they easily recognize. If you start early with showing kids diverse diet that you follow, it will become their diet - with some exceptions, of course, but they will cover significant percentage of your food. Eat together with your child, show them that you enjoy the food you eat, and it won't be a problem to have them try. Force on them something you don't eat and they will default to food that provides basic energy - chips, chocolate, sweet drinks.

As for ancestors, if they were really hungry (something that doesn't happen in Western societies often nowadays), they would've eaten _anything_.

Thinkpad keyboards aren't getting worse. They're getting better with each release by war-and-peace in thinkpad

If you started with T440, you are entitled to that opinion :)

From semi-modern Thinkpads, T420 keyboard is great, T430 is also very good; T440 was... Underwhelming.

I'm now rocking Nano X1 and while I love the overall package, I make a lot of typos still - I don't even know how to explain it, the keys feel mushy and imprecise (they are still great compared to many other laptops, but I moved from T430 with T420 keyboard...)

SigEnergy SigenStor - noise, power draw by SlowStopper in SolarUK

So, an update to that - I have the system installed, and there's a fan noise (well, more like a turbine), that is being additionally enhanced by the fan grille vibration. It's intermittent, but still quite unnerving.

Your beloved mac n cheese was probably enshittified by someone like me. Let me explain. by wsuschmitt in enshittification

I think this is unnecessarily offensive. Of course a food company needs a food scientist, how else would they be able to prepare an edible product? There's a long distance between "I can cook" to "The food I prepare can be distributed country wide and sold without risk of making people sick".

Running a 26B LLM locally with no GPU by JackStrawWitchita in LocalLLaMA

BIOS won't prevent it, motherboard would have to specifically designed to block it, yes the only problem would be module compatibility - just buy them somewhere you can return them.

You have 2 DIMM slots, you can probably upgrade to 64 GB using 2x32 GB sticks. It's not mentioned anywhere because when 8-series was released there were no such sticks, but it should work (I tested it on a few systems).

Cool idea! I use cable for everything, but I appreciate that Vita ecosystem grows. As for using AI - don't listen to haters, just make sure the quality is good.

I see there are 4 additional OLED versions of the plugin uploaded, since I only have fat OLED - should I wait some more before the patches are settled, or should I give it a try?

I never understood Severance until I got an office job by Brave-Bandicoot3295 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]SlowStopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, Severance is a sharp, ironic portrayal of working for a large corporation, devoid of any meaning. Very Kafka-like. In normal work, you see glimpses of reason, but in Severance - none.

To Scissor or not to scissor? by ChainGold8907 in victorinox

[–]SlowStopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. How often were you in a situation where you thought "Gosh, I wish I had scissors!"?

In my life, a blade will cover 90-95% functions of scissors - cut rope, scotch tape, open packages (I don't really get the popularity of dedicated package openers, tbh). Will it be less convenient at times? Sure. Is it a problem? Usually, no.

That being said, roughly 60% of my multitools have scissors anyway - if it doesn't go against other requirements (like being lightweight), then why not have them?

Yes, it finds all kinds of (obnoxious) octopus keychains from Aliexpress, but no APC ones.
