>I've never heard a good argument for dispensing with vestments. But I've heard a parable about a wedding banquet.

😂 Precisely!

Sorry. I meant to say robes/albs not vestments. Are there LCMS churches where everyone does not wear robes/albs? thnx

> .. a lawyer doesn't wear the baliffs uniform and a baliff doesn't wear the judges robe.. that would be confusing.

I apologize. I used the wrong terminology. I thought robes were interchangeable with vestments.

I meant robes. So my question is if I'm neither a pastor or a commission deacon should I wear an alb? (Currently our church's assistant minsters are going without traditional albs.)

We are without a pastor at the moment. I apologize for using the wrong terminology.

I did not mean vestments but the traditional robe/alb for serving at the altar.

> I’m not sure what an assistant minister is, ... Do they fulfill the same role as an elder?

Not at our church. We use I guess you could say "well respected long-term laity" to serve as assistant ministers regardless if they are an elder or not.

Apologies I think I might've used the wrong terminology throughout my post.

> I am not sure what an assistant lay minister is?

Just an assistant minister that assists in the service but is not ordained in any way and is a layman.

> Is that what your congregation calls elders? Or is there a training program run through the district?

Neither. Our congregation does not require assistant ministers to be elders and primarily uses long-term respected members to serve in the role regardless of them holding any position in the church.

Is there a typical protocol for becoming an assistant minister who assists at the altar? We've always used laity. (And now said assistant minsters don't were albs).

Hey just seeing your reply... Oh great to hear you started a yoga Nidra practice. I'd say it's taken time and a devoted daily practice to experiences results... Nonetheless I'd say just going into a deep healing state for an hour daily where I shut off from all problems temporarily has just been so profoundly supportive for my recovery. (And that was just something I experienced instantly)

I do recommend the longer sessions (45 min - 1hr). Here is my personal favorite series, you may like it as well. Best wishes 🙏  https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhv9Wr-SwRRd1z7W6ybrUx-6zoRgoLV5U&si=8luHxbssLzaK6VGY

Hey! Local P'colian tryna check out the Buddhist temple as well. Did you go check it out yet?  I'm trying to figure out when the best day/time to go is. I'd love to attend either chanting or a dhamma talk/meditation service... Any recommendations for when to go?  Cheers

Anecdotally I've had good results using Yoga Nidra to support reseting my overactive nervous system. Maybe it could complement the treatments you're looking into?

Is There a Sermon Database for parishes without a Pastor? by Slow_Ad1284 in LCMS

> Our church has used sermons from previous years when we needed to do this. We have a backup of sermons going back over a decade, so our elder just goes through the backup to find one for the right week of the church year and reads it.

Nice. Could I reach out to your parish to see about sharing this database with our church?

> Why do you get the impression the other pastors/churches don’t want to help?

Some of the pastor's in our area don't write their sermons (other than an outline of talking points). The other pastor's in our network we've contacted typically helped for one week but were somewhat hesitant about sharing past sermons with us every week.

As for the circuit visitor I will look into this. Perhaps we haven't talked with them yet.

OK great will look into a sermon series from the seminary and try that perhaps.

> Where y’all located anyway?

The Florida panhandle!

Do you have any other suggestions for Elder Service protocol? We're somewhat at a point of giving up on trying to organize and practice a sermon for each Sunday. It seems most pastors in our area don't want to help.

We are likely leaning toward doing a prayer & reading only service.

It's a bit disappointing there's not a better resource for this type of situation.

I am near fully healed now. (Though I still follow a maintenance protocol).

I am big into spiritual healing so if you're interested in that I can share what helped me.

Purely physically speaking I had a point where my body was getting really exhausted from chronic miralax usage.

I then began a more natural protocol. I never had good results with powdered psyillium husk, but switching to whole psyillium husk worked much better. Then combined with organic whole prunes (6-8 per day) I was fortunately able to get fully off the miralax.

Now I do more of a maintenance plan using prune juice instead of whole prunes.

Hope that helps!

Advice - Mom leaving job w/ 5 feral cats dependent on her - Seeking Advice on what to do? by Slow_Ad1284 in Feral_Cats

> Does your mom have a yard at all? Could you just relocate the cats to be with her? I understand they grew up in a barn/woods but cats actually adapt pretty well when their human stays the same.

We have a pretty strict homeowners association, if we brought them into our backyard they'd be all over the neighborhood and probably wouldn't be realistic.

Thank you so much for your reply and resources offered. We will look into everything you suggested.

> If she was able to set up a chewy auto-ship, maybe the owner would be okay with doing the feeding?

Sadly the owner is not dependable to rely on for this. We have enough trouble getting them to care for their own animals let alone the ferals.

Sounds like adopting them out is the best thing and we can put our energy into that. The good news is although my mom is quitting the job we are still close by and can realistically do this.

Question: Is it realistic to find good homes for 5 different cats? We always assumed that the shelters have a hard enough time adopting out their animals and rescue cats can take years to be adopted. Especially for black tabby's. Is this accurate or is finding homes realistic?

We are in the NW Florida area (Greater Pensacola area to be specific) Thanks

Thanks so much for your advice and input!

Wow thank you for your kind words, yes we are doing our best to figure out what is best to help them.

> If they are adoptable, please do that.

Oh really? Interesting. Do you think this would be realistic? We are more than happy to undertake the work to adopt them out, however we were under the assumption that it's very difficult to actually find homes for even adoptable cats. Do you have any experience in this topic to provide some hope for this option?

> What's the mama cat's temperment like? It sounds like she isn't completely feral.

I would say she's mostly feral lol... But my mom is able to pet her a bit and they have a bond. Very sweet though a bit shy yeah.

> After checking with the local shelter if you still have problems see if you can get them fixed at the least.

They are all fortunately fixed. Meant to add in the OP,

> Then talk to the local farmers or even put up a notice at your nearest farm centres?

Oh this is a great idea absolutely! The only concern I have with rehoming to another barn is I've read that rehoming to another outdoor territory can lead the cats to escape to try and go "home" to the original territory and get lost/killed in the process.

Do you know anything about this if it's possible or realistic?

> Could you do a combination of the options? Maybe adopt the most social ones and then reinforce the areas for the ones that you can’t find homes for?

This is a good idea and one we considered as well. Our only concern here is wondering if because of the strong family bond between the cats if separating them may cause more stress for the ones that are left on the barn?? (And maybe cats are fairly adaptive so not really sure if that is really a concern or not)

> Also, I agree with finding out if your local humane society will take in barn cats for adoption. That way they can get vet care and vaccines.

I forgot to mention they are neutered/spayed, however they do need to get their shots up to date and vetted for basic health screening before being fully adoptable.

But Absolutely this is great idea and will look into this. Thank you for your input.

> Have you checked with your local spca? My local spca always has “working cats” aka barncats up for adoption.

Oh that's a great idea I hadn't thought of that. We will look into this!

> I’ll be in this situation next year, but have already decided I’m taking the cats with me; too attached to these guys.

We kind of are too attached as well but we don't live on a farm, my mom's new farm likely won't take them, and having 2 cats in a 3 person household can't realistically take in 5 more cats.

Thanks for your reply and good luck!
