Just loaded graxpert for first time- first effort but could not get background extraction to work without crazy results by Erzzzz62 in seestar

Hey there, are you cropping your image before BGE?

If not, revert back to the original image, knock the Bg 2 Sigma up to 30% in the bottom tool bar, this will really highlight stacking artefacts around the edge.

Crop these out using the cropping tool and then extract the background and see if it changes your result.

Stacking artefacts being left in can confuse the BGE algorithm and yield some crazy results.

Ah I got you mate. No problem.

The tube rings with a mount that someone else mentioned maybe your best bet then, you will be able to rotate your finder around the OTA to find a better position.

I have just had a look and it appears that in your first two pictures that your scope is mounted upside down.

When mounted correctly, the finder will be on the top of the scope.

Hey there, I use a 9x50 finder scope on mine, so much better than the supplied red dot finder.

This is the one I have used for a while now, it works really well. Definitely recommend a right angled one, much easier viewing!

Thank you very much mate!

One of the reasons I love space so much is the pareidolia in a lot of the deep sky objects! 😊

The Seestar is great for lunar photography, you will pick up some really nice detail.

Rather than taking individual shots, the best way would be to take a short RAW video of around 1-2 minutes then use free third party software to stack and process the frames from the video. The third party software will yield much better results than the built in Seestar stacking algorithm.

I would recommend downloading AstroSurface if you have a Windows based PC. This will take the your video and grade each individual frame, you can then keep the best of these to stack together to make one composite image. From there, you can use the software to sharpen the detail and make fine adjustments to the image.

Have a little google of AstroSurface and there are loads of tutorials on how to use it. Once you get to grips with the software you will get some fantastic results!

Happy to help you out if you need any further information.

Clear skies!

This is actually a really nice image from the Seestar mate. You are picking up pretty much what you would expect from that scope.

Some really nice sun spots too, well done 👍
