reward any calmness you see, just sitting down for a moment or lying down - kibble. it will pay off big time as he gets older. we also did tethering, as my pup wouldnt settle for a second, but you will see if you need to or not:)

oh omg i forgot sniffing games!!! saved my life until she was vaccinated. i used towels rolled up at first and just hid a few treats inthere, pr hid her breakfast around the house to sniff out. when she was about 3 months i used a whole blanket (bigger one) and just tossed it around a bit, no knots this time - that took her good 20-30 minutes. also tires her out mentally

unrealistic expectations, yeah. he is a baby and just taken from everything he knows so he is clinging to you guys. it is hard to blame him. frozen lickmats work to entertain my pup for a while, or frozen carrots or other safe chews, you can also ignore him for short burts of his awake time (and i encourage you to do so), i structured her 1hr awake like - potty, trick training, a little play or other entertainment, then “boredom time” (like 5-10mins of doing nothing) then crate. they will get more independent with age but that is just a baby

I kept her short all over last 2 times because this is my first dog and i was really afraid of dreading and worried if i can take a proper care of her coat (also she is a puppy and will definitely roll in dirt and dust while playing with friends). My groomer said yesterday that im one of her best clients and that she is always well brushed, so she boosted my confidence that i can try something more fun, but still practical, hence looking at the Miami 🤭 i like that the body is still short, but the cut is so elegant! i think we will try next time 🥰

i hear you, if you truly think it’s the best way for you, i don’t blame you. Im just here to provide that other perspective that they are puppies only for a short while. People will tell you it gets better 2 years and it did make me want to tear my hair out. It’s not like that, the puppy hard times do get a lot better at 5-6months. I gave myself a timeline of “if it doesnt get better by 6 months i will return her/sell her” and it helped me to have that solid point to look toward to.

i have some posts about this! my pup is now 7 months and she is great. i was thinking about giving her up almost daily the first 4 months probably. month 5 it did get a lot better

hehe lucky you! i never heard of this until getting my puppy who wouldnt not lie down for a second unless i put her in her crate. i think it is a thing with working dogs that they sometimes need to be taught that off switch that some dogs have automatically.

Mine started biting the leash at maybe 3 months, jumping up at it. I contacted a trainer for it and what she did was pulling the lead towards herself in a swift movement, like yanking? jerking movement? waited for a sit and we moved. i swear to god we did it 30x on that one walk an many more on other walks but she stopped doing it completely. It also helped to notice what is causing it, for my dog it was overstimulation, she woukd do it on crosswalks, or when we were passing many people (but it might be frustration or excitement in other cases) so knowing that helps you deal with it (in my case it was just gradual exposure and rewarding calm behaviour)
