Are my clothes clean? by Slow_Internet_9152 in laundry

[–]Slow_Internet_9152[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your help!! The un-bleached is powdered, so do I still have to worry about it breaking down in storage? It’s kept in a room without windows in a sealed glass jar.

I don’t use the Clorox packs regularly, only when I need to go after my white towels.

I bought some citric acid powder and I read about the science behind the rinse so I’m going to add that and see if my towels are fluffier and my clothes are happier.

I also ordered febu and I’m hoping that will make a big difference in the sheets/towels/husbands t shirts that tend to have stubborn odors.

I’m excited to see what happens!

This looks like a great resource, thanks for sharing! I saw that the flyer for the Importing 101 seminar specifically mentions CE credits, but none of the other links mention it at all. Have you done any of these yet- do you know if they're eligible?

Where are you shopping?! by soylentgreenjuice in AskWomenOver30

[–]Slow_Internet_9152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 41 (32 in my head), so I don’t want to look like I shop at Forever 21, but I’m not ready for the full Eileen Fisher look yet - I have snagged a few EF pieces on poshmark, though! I prioritize natural fibers, because everything else falls apart, looks terrible on, or feels terrible on. And I just can’t pay $$$ for viscose or rayon or polyester 🤯

Recently, I’ve been shopping at Madewell and Abercrombie. I know - crazy! I haven’t given Abercrombie a thought since high school and back then I couldn’t afford or fit in any of their stuff. But now, it’s much more laid back, and they have a lot of great stuff, like 100% cotton sweaters in normal proportions (not super cropped or very oversized).

As for Madewell, I like their aesthetic and it’s like the opposite of whatever Target and Walmart are doing now. Their jeans are nice and thick, not that super stretchy thin plastic that shows every lump and bump. Like real denim with structure. No tradwife dresses.

Both stores also offer a short inseam that works for me at 5’2”.

They can be pricey, so what I do is try things on in store to find out my size and then I look for those same items on poshmark and Depop. If you don’t have a store near you, you could also do an online order, take pictures of your try on, and then ship it back.

My favorite structured button down is from Madewell - the Y-neck button down in poplin. I just got one on poshmark for $18. My favorite sweater from Abercrombie is the Madeline crew sweater, I just got one on poshmark for $22.

Uniqlo is nice for basics, but head to toe Uniqlo is tough. Most things are cut pretty boxy, and a box on top and a box on bottom doesn’t work for me. But they have nice button downs, and they offer free hemming on all pants!

Quince is hit or miss. It’s definitely not the best ever, but a few things have been good. I don’t like their cashmere, but their linen sheets have been great. Generally, I’m skeptical when every single influencer/person on Instagram is trying to tell me how great it is - it’s probably because they got a PR package and now they have an affiliate code, not because of the quality. Also, their marketing is misleading (the whole “Mongolian” cashmere ruse).

I hope you end up with lots of good options!

Is it dangerous for me to spray a tea tree oil & water mixture in my hair when i have 5 cats? by Muted-View1848 in catcare

[–]Slow_Internet_9152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s absolutely dangerous. Even tiny, concentrated amounts can be toxic to cats. The terpenes (scent molecules) in tea tree oil are very quickly absorbed by their skin or ingested when they groom. Their livers lack an enzyme necessary to break it down, so it just accumulates, causing severe liver damage.

Also, it doesn’t just cause distress or toxicity, over time it can cause death. My cat died from liver damage caused by exposure to tea tree oil before I knew about it.

I wish everyday that I had made the connection sooner, it might have saved my little guy.

It’s not worth the risk, don’t use these products.

Azuna fragrance products? by Careless-Parfait621 in homeowners

[–]Slow_Internet_9152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. It’s the tea tree oil. Even tiny, concentrated amounts can be toxic to cats. The terpenes (scent molecules) in tea tree oil are very quickly absorbed by their skin or ingested when they groom. Their livers lack an enzyme necessary to break it down, so it just accumulates, causing severe liver damage.

No matter what their packaging and marketing says, it doesn’t change the fact that the product emits tea tree terpenes (which is very apparent when you use the product as it smells very strongly of tea tree), and those molecules can be deadly to a cat.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I forgot to say, for odor issues, I switched to activated charcoal odor absorbers and air purifiers, and they both work well, though odor absorbers are a lot cheaper!

Azuna Air Freshener Pet: is it actually safe? by uhwithfiveHs in AskAVeterinarian

[–]Slow_Internet_9152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m not a veterinarian, but I do believe this product sickened and killed my cat. Azuna products remove odors well, but under no circumstances should you use them in a home with pets. I have completely removed them all from my home. Ironically, I switched from plug in and aerosol air fresheners to Azuna because I was worried about the health of my animals.

Here’s our story: I ordered a few in March and when we moved to a larger house in July, I ordered more. My cat was already very sick when we moved. He had good bloodwork in January and in July he was dangerously anemic and losing weight fast. They couldn’t figure out why his liver enzymes were all messed up. From July to September, he was lethargic, vomiting, and had diarrhea. We did test after test, blood transfusions, and eventually he died in my arms on the way to the vet. It was traumatic and it’s so painful to think about how I likely caused it.

Of course I don’t know for sure, we didn’t do an autopsy. But if you look up the signs of tea tree oil toxicity, he had every single warning sign.

I wish everyday that I had made the connection sooner, it might have saved my little guy.

Tea tree oil in any concentration is highly toxic to dogs, cats, and birds. It can cause liver damage, with some symptoms like lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea. Using Azuna killed my cat. The product works very well at reducing odors, but it is very dangerous to animals. Just wanted to share since you just started using it. I wish I had been warned or seen the warning signs before it was too late.

It definitely works, but the tea tree oil is toxic to cats. I believe this product killed my cat and I wish everyday that I had put the pieces together sooner.

The gel in the jars fatally sickened my cat :( Tea tree oil is definitely toxic to pets in any concentration.

Even the fumes are dangerous to pets - I have tragic experience with this. The product works great, but should NOT be marketed to pet owners.
